This is getting a bit rich now. High contact is high contact. Whether the player shrugs the tackle is irrelevant.

Ginnivan's isn't a football action but Selwood's was. They were also less lenient on Joel near the end.

Adapt with the times or be left behind. Ginnivan can also decide to take the game on and score/create goals in those situations too. Always a handy backup option.

Breust is a more subtle earner of high frees and is rewarded accordingly.

Absolutely charmed run for the Cats in the first quarter, some lucky umpiring decisions, Kolodjashnij getting a fingernail on Breust's shot after it clean bowled de Koning. Breust butchering a regulation two-on-one run into goal, almost every half Geelong chance going straight through the middle.

I wasn't shocked with the second quarter comeback, because truth be told, the quarter time scoreboard flattered us. What was pleasing was the response to every Hawthorn fightback and especially the response to the weird circumstances with the 3/4 time delay, not something any team with a handy (but not unassailable) lead would particularly want.

I thought Conway was very encouraging in his second senior game, looks a long-term ruckman with his mobility and follow-up efforts. Henry, Holmes and Bruhn potentially featuring in the votes, joining a couple of the usual suspects in our best.

What's happened to Newcombe?
Hawks fans said he was AA grade last season. Was invisible today
He was very bloody good last year, but like Nash has had a very slow start to 2024.
Not having Day who is our most dynamic mid has impacted them too, no doubt.

Had a slow start . And yes he was very close.
He has Worpel , normally Mackenzie/Ward/Hustwaite ( three kids ) and Nash as his support cast .
So its a fairly straight forward shut down for oppo at the minute

He will work it out and be fine.

he was never AA quality.

expecting him to be.............id suggest that's the problem.

Remarkable that so few people get this. Yes Selwood caused a lot of the high contact and should not have got frees when he did. But he was trying to evade tackles. If he didn't get the free he kept on playing. He didn't just go down like a bag of sh!t. There is a difference.
Bullshit.

Selwood played for frees more than anyone.

He was just lucky enough to not have the AFL change the rules.

* insert losing team blaming umpires.

Btw this phone crap??
What the hell is this, the players can look at Ipads most coaches have one but a phone why not?

You’re completely normalised to it but everyone else sees it!!! It’s brighter than hayley’s comet…

Do some research

1. We have the least free kicks for this season per game.
2. We have the second-worst free kick differential this year. The Bulldogs are the only team worse. Ours is -5, theirs is -5.7
3. What does everyone see, mate? Over the last 10 seasons we have had 5 seasons with a positive free kick differential, 5 with a negative differential. We’ve had 3 seasons of -2.8, -2, -1.7, and peak seasons of +1.5 and +1.

Overall the ‘average’ falls at a negative differential of about -0.5 free kicks per game over the last decade. So yeah, whatever the plan is from AFL House with the umpiring to favour us, they aren’t doing it with a lopsided free kick count

He does well to even get the chances. Once he starts converting he’ll be fine. He isn’t spoon fed goals by the green fellas like your mob. He has to earn them.
Should focus on kicking goals from 5m out rather than over celebrating his teammates' goals and sticking into all-time great defenders

Ginnivan is being umpired differently but he is still playing for free kicks every time he gets dispossessed. He has to earn trust back that that part of his game is finished before the umpires will play the legit frees. Lindsay Thomas went through a similar boy cry wolf phase at North

lol

free kick count was 21-20 hawks way. Rough end my ass.

Ginnivan didn't get free's because the guy ducks and has a rep for it. If your club had brains that be telling him to cut that s**t out. His technique is horrible and the longer he keeps doing it, umpires rightly should hold the whistle on even remotely suspect.
Listen, he’s probably just looking for the ‘Essendon Edge’.

Two things Ginnivan needs to do:
  • Stop lifting the arm. The rule was reclarified for that act precisely.
  • Stop planking like he's been tased as soon as he feels body contact.

He's made this problem for himself. If you lift the arm, you make it impossible for the umpire to judge and - consequently - can't expect a free kick.
