A lot to like from that performance. Significant improvement.

+’s:
  • Reid. Already my favourite player. Could be something quite special.
  • Hough. Winning is position most weeks. Should get only improve.
  • Gov. Easy to forget how good he is due to the injuries of the last few years. Back to his best.
  • Yeo. As above
  • BW. Won’t always win his position, but showing more and more. Definitely have a player to work with.
  • Long. Starting to work his way into the season after a slow start.

Unsure’s:

- Ginbey. Solid game. Looks like he’ll be an AFL player, my concern/fear is he has a low ceiling, but he has plenty of time. We have far bigger problems than him.

-‘s:

  • Chesser. I really hope to be proven wrong but I just don’t see an AFL player there. Made worse when you compare him to Johnson (who we should have picked).
  • Cole. Turnover merchant who panics too much for a senior player.
  • Duggan. Got lots of the pill but his turnovers killed us. Not good enough from our captain.
  • Maric and Edward’s injuries. Damn shame. Hope they aren’t serious.

This is the level of effort we need to see every week.

The most positive part was seeing some improvement from the youngsters. If Hewitt can come back in the back half of the year, Ginbey and Reid keep improving, Hall debuts and shows something soonish, we may well be onto a half decent rebuild. Can’t drop our heads and get belted next week though.

Too many of our players have sub par/non-AFL standard skills. Have to fix that and or draft/trade in players who have excellent disposal. Must be the priority moving forward.
Terrible analysis of Ginbey.

👍 This. The only unsure I have on 'The boy' is where to play him. He is definitely going to be something special. There are many options on where to play him-Wing? in the centre? Half back flank? It's a good problem to have. As I've said already- he's got plenty of size, speed, quite a bit of agression.. just how to use it and where.

Very much hope I’m wrong on the heights he can reach.

I see his best position off the Half back flank. If he can turn into a Shepard level HBF but be able to run through the middle a couple of times a quarter, I’ll be absolutely stoked.

I think there's far more upside than that. He's got the pace/dash to play on the wing- needs to just polish up a few things. I saw him yesterday dash around quite a bit- more than that last play. He could be many things- he isn't even 20 until September.

Wing. He has speed and endurance to match any winger.

At centre bounces unless he is defensive he doesn't really get the ground balls. Perhaps there may be scenario where we need a pure defensive midfielder at the centre bounce.

So I do trust his ability to tackle a mid at CBA not his ability to get the ball in CB

I do like his ability to stand up when tackled. Hence my hope with him

You get the sense when Ginbey realises how his athleticism puts him at such an advantage over most players he could really explode.

2 things i enjoyed and found memorable from Ginbeys game.

Firstly when he HAD to use his pace finally (as he should as a midfielder being chased by a ruckman) and burnt off Grundy, but more importantly hitting the short kick after for a nice goal assist.

The other was the couple times he just stood straight up as he was being tackled, and the tackle just fell off him. Tom Green does that a lot, should be encouraged.

16 disposals, 6 tackles, 4 clangers is a reasonable base for him. I do find it a bit odd he didn't have a single clearance all game though. How does a bloke who played at that many CBD's and around the ball finish without a clearance? Quite bizare.

The biggest positive to come out of the game is it gives something for us to sell.

It sells hope to the playing group that if they stick with it we can continue to close the gap on the rest of the competition.

It sells hope to supporters who are pulling their hair out after almost 3 years of being destroyed in field.

If we can keep it up, it also could go some way in convincing trade targets to come play for us, and it won’t be getting smashed every week for another 3 years.

Hope we can maintain that kind of level. If we do, we might end up with a couple of wins and some fairly competitive footy.

I think with Ginbey it is starting to click a little bit- was it round one he burst out of a pack and no one could keep up with him? He shanked the kick terribly, but I think that was partly due to the fact he thought he was under pressure when in reality he was in the clear and could have kept going.

This week, he took on Grundy - knowing he had the legs on him and then had the composure to pick out the little pass. Ideally, I’d like his progression to be that he runs through the 50 and kick the goal- but that will come with confidence.

I think that’s what Reid knows instinctively- awareness of the players around him. Them working together is only going to be good for Ginbey in the long run. You know that Reuben will train hard at it.

Our Forward line is a massive problem, how do we fix it with the players currently on our list now Maric is out also?

he is chasing bodies not the ball.

Positive
Jack Darling. Worked his butt off yesterday, went in hard and was a real target. His stats didn't do justice to his influence I thought.

Negative
Jack Darling. 1 goal in 4 games as a senior player, and that spilled mark in the forward line - unacceptable.

To play wing or HBF in the modern game you have to be a good kick of the ball .

I haven't seen anything to suggest that ginbey is more than adequate by foot .

I can see him as either an inside mid or lockdown defender .

Ginbey strengths are athleticism, toughness and will to impact .

His weakness are production and disposal by foot .

I agree... his disposal needs work. As others say- don't think he realises how fast he is and thinks he's under pressure when he isn't. He can work on disposal and it can be more than serviceable. He works hard at training so I think his foot skills will 'come on'. He's just 19.

Is there any way for us to splice Ginbey and Reid's DNA to create an army of Reidbeys? Asking for a friend.
Harley has sisters? Maybe Harlz might introduce one of the sisters to Roobz! Could see it legit working- both good country boys and come from good country families. Reid/Dursma genetics look good too! 😜

So if Harley gets paid by Eagles fans to solve ED is that outside the salary cap?

With the age demography of the Eagles and the several years of flacid stimulation from the club it could be HUGE.

The kid would become a millionare within weeks. ;) :$ :joycat:
Not outside salary cap, but to be known as Harley Viagra from now on.
