Would have liked to have seen Blakely extended for a year if he was willing to accept a major pay cut.

Yes, his disposal in particularly kicking was weak point but what he does bring was clearance around stoppages, which was one of the concerns with the more smaller bodied younger mids. Evident in the Collingwood game where they just got brushed off and bullied. With Mundy gone, not sure the likes of Erasmus will solve this. Not like his disposals were much worse than Acres.

Anyway, looks like he is still looking find another club. Wouldn't think it would ge the worse pickup if he was going cheap

Taylor where has the other spreadsheet gone? the one with the players listed in order by contract length, did you ditch it?

Just temporarily, there's so much changes this time of year and it's entirely manual - so once we have gone through the drafts I'll have all the heights, weights, dates of birth, contract length etc and copy it over then order A-Z for contracts.

This year is better than last year, we've had a blitz on extending guys beyond this season a year early so it's just Serong, Ryan, Schultz, Fyfe, Walters to finalise as any priority. The last three being free agents until signed or triggering extensions.
Really on 3 on that list than we need to worry about. Fyfe or Walters aren’t going anywhere at this stage in their career & where Freo are at.

We're still babies in 2023. Approx 23y9m on average currently (mostly thanks to Mundy retiring). Suspect our average age and experience will be similar to last year even though overall we will have more 50+ and 100+ games.

3 over 30 now (Fyfe, Walters, Colyer)
3 more will turn 30 in 2023 (Hamling, Wilson, Taberner)
2 will join the 30 club in 2024 (Hughes and Omeara)

So of the 8 28+, only 4 are B22.

Staggering number still under 25 (~27)

Just out of interest, do you still do that list of WA players remaining contracts?
Thought it might be interesting in the context of Bell's recent interview when he talked about players wanting to come to the club.

I haven't been updating that Bringing Them Home sheet for a long time.

I think it would be THE project to learn how to use Googlesheets scrape ability to source, list by draft pool then by contracted until, allowing that the likes of Tom Mitchell will show as a WA player since he was drafted from WA while his dad worked at Freo and the contract status isn't entirely accurate on footywire.

i have got the answer to all this lets extend Colyer for another year even at this early stage of the season and make a big song and dance about it

TRIGGER FOR IMPORTANT DOCKER
FREMANTLE forward Lachie Schultz is closing in on reaching a trigger for another year at the Dockers.

Schultz signed a two-year deal with the Dockers in 2021 that is due to expire this year but he is heading towards hitting a games clause that would add on another season for 2024.

He is in the Dockers' group of unrestricted free agents this season at this stage after being previously delisted and qualifying under that mechanism.

The 25-year-old has become a key player for the Dockers in their forward half, booting 30 goals last year and kicking 10 so far this season from seven games.

He was drafted by the Dockers as a mature-age find from Williamstown in the VFL and knocked back interest from Hawthorn two years ago when he was out of contract to remain with Fremantle. – Callum Twomey

Once again Inside Trading the GOAT article

Honestly surprised Schulz stayed with us with a trigger so big? He basically agreed to a lesser deal that needed like 35? Games played in 2 years to hit his third?

If he was playing 35 games in 2 years then he was basically guaranteed a contract anyway, could have gone south for him pretty quickly if he fell out of favour.

Everything else would be strange. He surely is more a long term project player then he was an instant fix for last season.
Agree they must have known he was a 3 year project when they drafted him why they didnt let him develop at East Perth for the season is the other big surprise

The contract had to be structured that way so that they could keep him on rookie list. Elevating him to the senior list would have required delisting either someone under contract or not re-signing a more important player. But rookie rules require elevation after 3 seasons, so they couldn't given him a 3 year contract as he'd already spent 1 year on the rookie list. Had to be two years (rookie) plus a trigger.

Maybe the trigger was a high number of games to protect the club, or — more likely, in my view, given there's no source, no "reportedly", or anything like that — this is just one of those speculative/non-news pieces dressed up as news for the sake of publishing "content", and Lachie has already hit the trigger but there won't be an announcement until after someone on the senior list has been delisted at season's end (Colyer?)
