I wouldn’t want to say the opposition is easier. But North do lack quality key defenders.

Yep you’re spot on. We are desperately missing Griffin Logue (ACL) and also lost Goater to an Achilles in the 1st round, along with McKay going to Essendon where he now decides to play some good footy. Good KPD’s don’t grow on trees, and they tried to get in players over the Summer to cover. Pink (3 game via SANFL) and Niguyon from the Tigers (not played yet). Then we have Dawson (8 games) along with an over paid ex-Giants hack (Coor). Sheezel and Scott are in our top 5 players, and the jury is out on Fisher from Carlton who is more a forward in my book. If we show some more of the 1st half we did against Freo in round 2 it might make for a closer match. But with all the Vegas shenanigans and your 0-3 start I expect your forward line to smash us if your midfield/HB line runs riot. I think we will bring in Charlie Comden to play down back to take either Hipwood or Daniher. ps I heard the “Milk Shakes” are excellent at Norwood Oval 😎 which should please the team. Good luck and may the best team win.

So we are agreed! Berry, Hipwood, Payne and Answerth are gone. I knew you would come around to my way of thinking.
You still have not answered my post 287 in regard to your so-called Fagan favorites (and mulligans) in Berry & McInerney.
I noticed you left out McInerney in your above post. An oversite on your behalf.
You still have not given a reason why you would drop Berry & McInerney on their last games performance.

3KZ doesn’t respond to every post my friend. You’ve got to lure him in with some honey.

Perhaps an obscure reference to a pub level player from Fitzroy’s 1971 team will do the trick.

No he’s not. I’m just simply saying that my expectations, not yours, but my expectation was that he’d be a lot more dominant a player. I was wrong. I prefaced it by saying I did not want watch much of the Dogs but reputationally I thought he was more a standout type of player. Cut out the nonsense that it’s his turn to cop it. What are you starting? Can’t someone on a bloody forum of all places comment that they’ve been underwhelmed by a player or is that too sensitive for you?
You stated that Dunkley " Probably just came for the pay check" so i did not start anything.
Just calling you out on that absurd comment.
He is one of our better performing players and earning all he is being paid.

A difference of opinion on whether he is playing up to expectation or not, is not the point.
You are correct it is a forum, and everyone can voice an opinion. So, i did.

Stating that Dunkley "Probably just came for the pay check' insinuates to me he is taking it easy, just going through the motions and not earning his payments.
Players deserve a bit more respect than throwing comments like that their way especially when they are performing well.

I'll help him out.

Berry had a good game last week. I was never in the drop Berry camp but he was getting a little frustrating . I think the GF performance set a few people off. He's still worth a spot especially if he can keep up last week's effort.

I can't see Oscar being much better than Fort as you do Section 5. Neither are flash.

Reminds me of the lyric of a favourite song of mine ' You take Sally ,I'll take Lou ,ain't much difference between the two.'

I thought at the time Oscar's over the head handball to Bailey streaming into goal was the best bit of play I've ever seen Oscar do. That and the torp somewhere interstate that must have traveled 120m from the centre of the ground but unfortunately sailed out of the ground over the point area. That'd would've been goal of the century. I'd love to see Oscar launch with a torp out of the middle again if he gets the chance.

Every time!

Definite oversight. I like Oscar and he likes his Gold Mulligan.

Hey Brab maybe you're miscuing a little with that thought.

It's always been a maxim that you can't compare sportsmen from different eras.

I've got no doubt the champs from the '70s would for the most part be champs today and the hack players maybe have a career as F/Ter's in today's system instead of working on the farm ,training twice a week for an hour or two and then going to the pub.

I mean everyone knows Laver would struggle to win a point off Djokovic but if you look at Laver's record, and being pro for a long time when only amateurs were eligible for the majors , he's not far behind him if at all in terms of dominance.

You can only be realistically compared to your peers imo.

We did go to the pub quite a bit back in the day didn't we 3KZ.

I can remember Sellers ,Fitzy and later Dominator turning up at Naughton's every Thursday after training and going toe to toe with we students with the pots.

So they were actually pub level players.
Everyone called Fitz The Chinaman or China for short.

I'm a bit embarrassed for him about how serious he's become once he started making money.

A few running around here, but we took the points, in front of the Royal Family.

Naughtons - had many great days there as an undergraduate. Uni blues announced their team there as well on a Thursday.
Moved to the Clyde Hotel for later studies. Other favourite from this time was Johnny's Green Room.

I used to drink at the Prince Alfred in Grattan Street. That was the Arts student’s pub.

Yeah . The billiards was a go to once you had a dozen pots under the belt. So many stories about the Blacks and the Blues but best not go there.

I can't say what we used to call the people who drank at PA's .

I'd probably get sued now.

But it had to do with their sexual preference.
Arts students - most of the animosity was based on our 13 hours contact teaching time. Left a lot of time for socialising.

There was a short lived nightclub we went to in Queensbury St. North Melbourne in about 1982 or 1983 and one Wednesday night at about 1 am there were about 6 or 7 Carlton players lined up along the bar sinking beers. About two weeks later there was an article in The Herald by whoever replaced Alf Brown, about Carlton players getting on the gas during the week, where the club might have said, that won’t be happening again and that was it. Today that would have translated into blanket media coverage and a full Fox Footy meltdown. Were people more sensible in the good old days?

Better leave it there, some squarehead is going to make a derogatory comment shortly.

I can feel it in my water.
I’ll keep going then. I did the Honours year for my BA and that was 4 hours contact (with renown historian Lloyd Robson) and a year to research and write a 12,000 word thesis. I actually had so few hours, I was able to sign up for the dole. A very nice lady at the Box Hill CES asked me what sort of job I was after and I told her I wanted to be a Historian. She smiled, signed me straight up, said they would let me know if anything came up, but I should check the boards in case there was anything else I was interested in. Happy days. You could get into the footy for the price of a haircut, beer was cheap, Uni was free, petrol was 30 cents a litre, a family could live on one wage and the average person could buy a home.

No wonder young people are pissed off.

We used to go to the Tattersalls and Anglers Club . Had a license to stay open all hours ,so Thursday night there were lots of AFL players particularly Carlton players who'd head from the pub straight there.

They had 2 billiard tables and lots of deranged alcoholics or as I look back now lonely people.

The door at the front had a tiny peephole where whoever went to the door decided whether to let you in or not. If you were a regular you got a key.

Geez they were fun times. And you knew all the footy gossip. It's actually laughable what everyone got up to. Funny thing it didn't seem to overly affect how some of these guys played.
