How much would it cost to fill in the Brisbane river or turn it into a little river like in San Antonio and turn the new land into housing, parkland and Olympic precinct it’d be kind of like a snaking better version of Neom.

The Chinese are masters at reclaiming land.

75% serious.
Northshore Hamilton is already reclaimed land. What's a little more? The residents at Bulimba across the river certainly took a few liberties reclaiming land for their properties.

I can't say I ever recall viewing "the suburb with the cheap cinema" as the classy end of town.

Speaking of which, is the cinema still there and is it still cheap?

Balmoral Cineplex still there. Hawthorne Cineplex right across from Morningside Football Club is still there with a fancier one across the road from it as well. Never went to that one but I think it just sells booze.

But you will have times where you have both events happening at the same time , exhausting those public stations when this happens.
FWIW here in Sydney we have two stadiums and an entertainment option in two locations (SFS, SCG, and Moore Park; Accor, GIANTS, and Qudos Arena) and 99% of the time there's an offset between starting and finishing times. It's very unusual for multiple events to be heading to the exits at the same time - usually they're at least 30 minutes off, which gives time for crowds to clear.

Weird place to suggest we move during the Gabba rebuild. Might have to run a few specialised bus routes to make it work for us but not against it.
They already play our song before most events there!

This is why we can't have nice things. You can just imagine what will happen when we start building infrastructure for the olympics.

Sources familiar with the union’s demands told The Courier Mail that under the proposal for Cross River Rail an entry-level worker would receive a $15,000 pay increase, seeing them earn more than $240,000 each year.
So they are already earning $225,000 a year as a base rate for this ... conditions dangerous and mine-like even while being inside the city?

Those working overtime or more than five days per week would earn much more than the $120,000 a year figure, which is for a basic 36-hour week.
Um ... wouldn't you fully expect to be paying more to somone doing more than five days per week of overtime??? And if there is that much overtime is there maybe not enough staff?

Naturally the Curry or Maul would state the salary position based on the assumption of a 60hr workweek (and that's assuming that the entirety of overtime is at double-time, which seems unlikely), without mentioning that it was for such.

I love honest media.

Are they in the same section as the unicorns and the altruistic politicians and the folks who have a debate on the internet and finish with 'you know you're right, I have changed my mind, thank you'?
Perhaps rarer still

I wonder what "other plans for the Gabba" could be.
They were going to use it for water polo but that's at Suncorp too after the government saw pictures from 2011. Now it's going to be reserved for equestrian events, with the cross country going down Vulture St.

Announced today
The Gabba part.

2.5 The Gabba Stadium
In accordance with the announcement by the Government on 18 March 2024, the previously proposed re-build of the Gabba Stadium will not proceed, and consideration will now be given to a modest enhancement of the existing facility which will mean AFL and cricket are not displaced.
The investment to be made at the Gabba stadium will mean it is available to host appropriate Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic games events (e.g. cricket) if required, noting sporting events will not be confirmed until 2025 by the International Olympic Committee and the Organising Committee.

Anyone else heard about the plans to have Lang Park host the swimming? 🤯

Will this change the possibility that the Gabba will be near the end of it's life around the time of the Olympics, I thought there were major structural issues eg. the sails and supporting framework, lifts, electrical infrastructure, ground access.

Will it still be a Billion dollar bandaid.... will we still need a new oval stadium for AFL/Cricket circa the mid to late 2030s?

I found a mock-up.

Who would know.
Labor will spend the $500/600 million stated earlier if still in power.
How they do that and what they spend the money on is anyone's guess.
The Gabba will host the cricket at the Olympics nothing more certain than that.

I just posted the links in case anyone on BF lives in the area and would like to see what is earmarked for Wooloongabba.
Of course, that could all change after the election should the LNP decide the area needs a different PDA for Wooloongabba.

That spend would literally only address issues like accessibility and bringing the venue up to current safety and regulatory standards. Maybe the shade sail spend as well.

But on a venue of that size that spend is like putting lipstick on a pig.

As Grace Grace said - after 2032 not our (my) problem.
