EDFL Premier Discussion 2024

There’s a lot of money being spent at a few clubs sitting at the bottom of the ladder
At the DP game vs PV .. was told Majak called and said his Uber was in a crash and won’t get there.. hope they were joking.. paying off these sort of bloke debts.. means nothing to them, they just move on to the next highest bidder . Clubs have to draw a line in the sand and stop it.. DP have done this for too long.. only a few have stuck around.. players get use to the bidding war.
Deer park in with the big boys now, not the club they use to be crowd was quieter not as arrogant but also down from what I remember.. DP weren’t bad, but you could tell PV we’re a little undermanned.. DP miss Smart and his forward pressure..

GV pinched the win at the death at EK yesterday. 2 goals down with a minute or two to go. Scrape through by a point. Supposedly EK not at all a happy place with a handful of players leaving midweek.
Must be tough on coach Pat when president Pat tries to buy $$$💰💰💰culture as success starts at the bottom and build up. Unfortunately the EKFC model was yester year and doesn’t work in this environment as strong clubs will always outlast this model of administration.

Another loss and pressure on Pat’s job!

I’ve got to admit I thought doutta and Avondale were going to fight for relegation both have started well this season. First time for quite a while the relegation race will be very competitive good for the competition. But what do I know?
Not the only one that thought that and it’s great for the competition.

EDS dismantled APW yesterday, out coached and outworked them all day. At a guess APW would have won the midfield battle and inside 50 count but Doutta team defence was too solid, then had too much pace on the counter. A few classy VFL listed players have helped them also with retaining the ball, and the forward line had some potency. Thomas up there with any small fwd in the comp. Horrible blow for them with Tully doing a shoulder though, he’s the best key position they have. The ruckman gives them plenty and thought he was great too. The captain Ntialianas very good all day.

For APW Gentile was in everything and always looked like he was going to spark them back in the contest but didn’t have enough help. Barbero played very well in defence and Young was solid without having a lot of influence. Hanson a bit underwhelming, got plenty of the ball but didn’t do a lot with it. Edwards has impact at stoppage but then can’t keep up around the game, and turned it over too much.

Hopefully all the teams can keep this up through winter and we will be in for a fascinating season at both ends of the ladder. 3 wins minimum to survive IMO

Both Avo and Douttas have good coaches and it helps them a lot more than what you think. Paddy Byrne being back and having Tom Gleeson as his playing assistant is a huge help while Barry Prendegast at Douttas has made them respectable.

Will Pat consider sacking Pat?

Biggest double standard in local footy

Sacks the coach last year when they were sitting in the top half of the table… no game plan apparently….

Recruits himself and a development (sic) coach from the Jets

Recruits 3rds players, with one making their senior debut last week and was so far out of his depth that is unlikely to ever play seniors again..

List goes on…

Keep sweeping those changerooms!!

There must be some really good people at EK or ex EK people who would be devastated about where they're at. Not just the win/loss, but their reputation.

My sister has an 11 year old and she lives around the corner from their ground. She knows nothing about footy.
I asked if her kid is going to play there and she said she'd heard horrible things about the club from parents at the primary school.

This is how clubs die!!

Anyone have any idea why Keighton Matofai-Forbes was named to play Keilor Thirds on Friday night? Understand seniors, reserves and 18s prem did not play on the weekend just gone as they played Good Friday instead.

At a guess, it would be part of their strategy to get him to play 5+ open age games this season, so he drops another point next season.

Agreed. Exposto was a junior with us until his top age u16 year from memory them was told to go to pacco if he wanted to be considered for Cannons so went there. Hard to say a club developed those juniors when they went there when another club had developed them in the early years. He's a great kid who's done very well at paco but they didn't really develop him as a junior as such

Rubbish, the better coaches and players have improved him from the age of 16 in to a good premier league player

Just some more shifty business

That club might be a powerhouse but it’s fu&&&& local footy and this competition with underhanded tactics for years. They have absolutely ruined junior footy..by raiding other clubs talent for years with incentive offers. Yes 2 other clubs were doing similar things but not as bad and another club is now reasonably strong due to following a similar path to compete.
It’s a big joke really and should have been stamped out as they have dug the holes for others clubs to be buried. As well as wrecking the competitive nature of footy.

Did he actually play ?
Find it strange that in a game where Keilor Thirds won by 7 goals, that he didn’t kick any. He has been playing fwd at Jets and vic metro..

Happy to be corrected if he just had an “ off night”

I’m more talking junior footy and how certain clubs ( 1 in particular) raid surrounding clubs best juniors as young as 12-14 with incentives and promises to move across as it’s ruined junior footy big time. Have a look at the under 18.5, 16s and 14s competitions and you will see that 3-4 clubs completely dominate. Do we think all these players at those clubs live around the area or played Auskick, 10-12s at that club?? Did the player make first contact? No they were approached and in my opinion the league ( and AFL VIC) should be conducting an audit of these clubs to see what occurred and how they can create a more competitive junior competition (and not have clubs field sides in certain ages yet up the road a club has 3 sides in 1 age group) or you will see more clubs scoping opposition sides or other league and try and entice young kids to move clubs for $$ at the young age of 12-14. That’s unacceptable in my book but if no one stops it what do others do to stay competitive??

Bit of talk on here about EK junior participation numbers. Well is it all the fault of EK as a club as a few have mentioned?? Maybe?? But hey they have decent facilities, 2 grounds next to each other so they have the landscape to be enticing! So I would be asking:
1- Has the league conducted an audit of where there juniors have gone??
2- If they had kids play rep footy where specifically did there best young talent go?

Is there a trend or pattern occurring ? Did kids stop playing? Or were they raped by other clubs??

Just saying!!

How terrific will the end of year be if by some chance the relegation battle comes down the EK and DP
We need a couple of the bigger clubs to structure their playing groups on certain weeks to allow AW the luxury of surviving in Premier
Lets see if the 2 clubs manipulating salary caps then calls wolf on the other clubs
Its an easy fix for all and something to bring a smile to us all .

At least these clubs are investing in their jrn department not just buying premierships

Well it’s actually buying junior players to strengthen the senior sides in years to come. If they were investing in their own juniors then that’s great and how it should be but they poach, and pay to get kids from other clubs and that’s not developing your own.
not great for footy mate..

It's terrible for football.
Young footballers are hoarded with bullshit promises, certain clubs guarantee their stays at the top, Div 1 and Div 2 clubs cannot compete and then have to spend their way to success - fail - and then will die.

I honestly believe it’s the parents majority of the time moving their kids to the big clubs and not the clubs contacting the families. My mate just yesterday told me if his 8yo! Son keeps showing potential he will move him to one of the Big 3 in U/12s, the family live over 15 minutes away from all them clubs. 🤦‍♂️
