Young Wes - He's pretty good. In fact, he's electrifying.

Actually, over the course of the summer and current squad WA 18's have included 13 below agers and there are 3 or 4 more who might have been included if not for injury. So a good sign.

But yeah Wesley Walley Jnr is going to be on everybody's radar soon enough.

So Let's examine this closely - 8 below agers - some completely out of nowhere.

Draft agers who missed out

6-Otis Harvey (SD)
12-Luke Cotellessa (SD)
13-Jesse Grant (PT)
14-Andre Gulluni (EP)
15-Harrison Creighton (SD)
17-Cooper Moore (P)
20-Lucas Ravenhill (CL)
21-Koopa Walsh (S)
23-Robert Warrell (P)
26-Jayden Rigoll (WP)
27-Lukas Jakovich (PT)
29-Luke Bennett (PT)
30-Declan Pauline (EF)

Ok, immense injuries aside.....what changed in 3 weeks.....nah man.....not adding up.....additions need to be made.....this is weird....but it's time to hear from other observers....maybe they can see what I can't
I cannot understand why they would have 8 below agers with a ton of talent in those draft agers! And all those from Claremont, what are the selectors thinking??

Your post doesn't make much sense and I'm confused.....are you supporting the below agers or saying they could have backed in some more draft agers?

And sir, your conclusion is? Too many below agers or too few draft agers?
I honestly don't know the talent out west, so I couldn't say if they've picked the right team or not.

I've never really put much thought in to the selection of State teams.

What is the goal, to win or try and get as many kids drafted this year?

Should team balance play a big role, if it means a draftable talent might get left out?

At the beginning of the year there was a lot of talk about this being the weakest WA team for a long time. If this still holds true, I would have no problem with a lot of bottom agers being picked.

A question I would ask is......I've got nothing against the posh private school guys from the mighty monts.

But surely it's either Hayes or Angove from Claremont? They are almost clones!

I',m no SD supporter by any means but WA needs meat and potato in and under players. Luke Cotelessa 26 and 28 disposals, Otis Harvey 27 and 25. To make the draftaable players look good you need some bullockers.

12 Tigers players suggests preferential treatment for me.

No East Perth names I noticed.
That seems to be the general consensus

ill play devils advocate for a different prospective. From memory Peel had nine ish players in the summer squad.

Would we be saying the same if they were all picked or are Claremont just simply producing the most talent?

As fate would have it there is only one colts game this weekend and that involves Claremont. So no chance of players making much of a state 18's claim this week apart from Claremont's opponents - Subiaco.

But it's a good opportunity for observers both in WA and interstate to check out a game with a fair few highly touted prospects.

Firstly we have to point out the players who will be missing. For Claremont state overager Max Rohr, has been named in the league team while Cody Curtin (2025 draft), Max Hansen-Knarhoi (2025), Hugh Boxshall (2024), Clancy Dennis (2024), Brady Foster (2024) and Charlie Banfield (2025) are unavailable due to round 1 of PSA football.

Nine new players have been named in the Claremont extended squad of 27 including over ager Campbell Knox (190cm), Joshua Grahame (2025/181cm) and Noah Mellody (2024/190cm) who have been positioned in the starting XVIII. Rest assured all the new players will be competant - they always are at Claremont.

Subiaco have lost bolter Toby Jones (2024) and WA summer squad member Tore Nelson (2024) to PSA. Darcy Montgomery (2025), Jimmy Aylmore (2025) are also unavailable as are important over agers Kieren Douglas and Max Sarre.

However Aquinas have the PSA bye, so this enables us to have a rare look at Caylon Seelander (2024), the son of Leroy Jetta and Goldfields debutante Brady Hicks (2025/185cm). The dynamic Malakai Champion (2024) returns from injury.

The Claremont side is still stacked to the brim. Jaxon Douglas (2024), Jett Sibosado (OA), Hamish Davis (2024), Oscar Willis (2025), Bailey.Banfield (OA), Aiden Riddle (OA), Joseph Hopkyns (2024), Will.Hayes (2024), Austin Van Der Struyf (2024), Sullivan Moody (OA), Lucas Ravenhill (2024) and Cody Angove (2024) are among those who have caught the eye of state selectors and/or scouts.

Subiaco also have some eye catchers -Malakai Champion (2024), Koopa Walsh (2024), Caylon Seelander (2024), Hayden Windsor (2024), Wesley Walley Jnr (2025), Charlie Burke (2024), Xavier Hickey (2024) and let's not forget big Finley Henderson (2024) who with his immense bulk and height (200cm) is often impossible to outpoint in the goal square. Two defenders are needed. He has become a bit of a crowd favourite at this level.

If need be refresh the page close to starting time.

Hopefully a few more players are put on the national radar.

2024 is going to be better than I initially thought but will it be enough. Hard to say yet.

Been busy this week so only the first time I have had a look at this, but I did do up what I thought the team would look like and am also pretty shocked about no Contellessa or Harvey; they were what I was expecting was going to be the centre square team and provide the more experienced bodies (as you pointed out).

Clearly Kelly is featuring in their thinking but.....
