Do they want clubs to succeed? Really They’d rather less people watching or attending local football.

They would rather you take your $10 entry money at the local footy and go to an AFL game playing $30+ per seat.
They would rather you spent the $30-odd on food and drink at a local game and spend $50+ on the same items at an AFL game instead (plus a couple of merchandise items).

Senior grassroots football is an inconvenience to the AFL and AFLV. They have spent too much time admiring the American sporting system and rue all the missing millions they could be hoovering up from the community if nobody over the age of 21 was playing grassroots football.

Problem is the AFL and AFLV don't seem to understand that a football/netball club is the heartbeat of a community for people from toddlers at the feet of mum or dad and the who-knows-how-old timekeeper who has done the same job for 45 years, missing only one match when his daughter foolishly scheduled her wedding for a Semi-Final.

And someone is not doing to drive from Manangatang to the other end of the state to watch their team in the flesh every week ... but the trip to Cohuna to "beat those buggers" means a whole lot more to them and their townsfolk.

Yes same thing happened last year clearances opened in February this year.
Using last year when we were in lockdown up until late October isn’t really relevant. The season was cancelled and you couldn’t visit you family let alone have football meetings.

The norm has been November, get your new players in and registered prior to training kicking off. Any disputes have months to sort out.

Just another moronic move that puts more pressure on clubs

May have been closed due to Covid lockdown.

The standard is November which it’s been for a number of years now.

Regardless makes zero sense to not allow clubs to get players cleared now.

How are clubs expected to manage salary caps on iffy transfers
The correspondence from the league/s has been terrible. No transfers till Feb meaning you've essentially got any transferring players in limbo for 4 months, then they haven't even advertised that the salary caps have been increased from the COVID reduced levels from the past few years. How are the committees and list managers supposed to run things when everything is as clear as mud

From memory clearances are open from Nov - December, close for Jan and then reopen from Feb as league staff are usually on leave

From memory the November transfer started in 2016 for the 2017 season. The later window is not going to ruin clubs. Lack of admin at club level will do that. Organised clubs will already have the contracts signed.

It’s due to the change in systems with some leagues changing to PLAYHQ and others remaining on GAMEDAY, yes should be fixed they have had over a year to sort it out, but that has nothing to do with the league.

Pretty poor, is not rocket science.

Training returns in Jan and the new recruit injures himself who’s insurance is he covered under?

Clearances have nothing to do with insurance, Registration is separate and by all reports in the media atm the insurance covers f&$k all not worth the paper it’s written on and if I still played I would be taking out my own insurance

AFL Victoria removes November local footy clearance window

AFL Victoria has pinpointed two key reasons for its decisions to change the local footy clearance system. Here’s why.
Easing the pressure on volunteers is one reason local footy clearances have been delayed until next year.
In a memo sent to clubs and leagues earlier this week, AFL Victoria announced it was scrapping the November clearance and transfer window which was meant to begin next week.

Now clearances cannot be made official until February next year.
Feedback has indicated volunteer preference is to delay the opening of the transfer periods to February 1, 2023 to provide clubs with an opportunity to have a break from monitoring transfers,” the memo said.

“This is particularly important during a period where there may be committee and volunteer turnover.

“In this case, delaying the opening will allow more time for key club personnel to ensure they are properly set up to receive notifications for transfer requests and trained in the process of approving (or) denying transfer requests.”

Changes to competition management platforms including PlayHQ and Gameday were another reason provided for the decision.

The AFL is migrating some 2022 data from GameDay into PlayHQ with the process expected to be completed in December.
Both platforms will continue to be used by leagues next season.

“Until this migration occurs there is the potential for challenges in initiating transfers because of inconsistencies in the data between platforms,” the memo said.
Examples of issues included players who registered on GameDay, which is predominantly used by metropolitan competitions, will not have an existing PlayHQ record and could register to a PlayHQ club without a clearance being initiated.
“Leagues and clubs who are transitioning to PlayHQ this year will need to set up their transfer notification settings to ensure they are notified of transfer requests,” the memo said.
“There is a risk that some clubs may not have completed this process on PlayHQ by November 1, which may lead to transfers auto-approving without the knowledge of a player’s source club.”
Player will need to wait until February 1 next year to submit a clearance.
Next year’s clearance window will remain open between February 1 and June 30. The changes aren’t expected to change the approach of local footy club’s to recruiting with many announcing a number of new players set to join in 2023.

You can’t register with a club unless cleared.

The insurance doesn’t cover “f all”

If someone gets their teeth knocked out at training it’ll cover at minimum $2500 and upwards depending on the clubs cover.

Player insurance covers 75% to a max of $2500. Average knee rebuild is between 15k to 30k Whole sett of front teeth is 30k so Yhea covers f all that’s why afl Vic recommends all players take out there own private health cover,

Back to the football talk.

Hearing Diamond creek are very active and have a few lined up. Tranquilli is very well connected.

Have Northcote signed anyone so far? Hard to tell from their facebook.

Eltham look to have Re-signed about 25 players
