In 2022 the Fields will have 1 female coach as a senior assistant and another as our Reserves coach. Both are completing their level 2 coaching and our senior assistant will be a senior coach at some point, it's just a matter of time.

Ando is awesome for Old Scotch (great coach too), however I would make the point that the women's game is different and having coaches (either male or female) who have experience with women's football is important.

Anyone have thoughts on round 1 umpiring for the Women's.
Know there was a push last year for it to be more in line with the actual rules rather than just "she almost connected/marked/etc, play on" but defo didn't see any progress on the weekend, unfortunately

I watched the first half of the St Mary’s v Caulfield game on the weekend and thought it was pretty well umpired, certainly not ‘going easy’ on the players. St Mary’s looked pretty poor to be honest though. I thought they used to be pretty strong? Mass exodus out of the club in by both males and females. Wonder if it’s a wider club issue?

Monash premiers of premier B. Tight win over yarra cobras, but 18 game season with an average points against….8 points
The women's premier b grade was a bit of a shitshow to be fair, top 4 sides all with a % of 200+ against the bottom 4 who all had a shocking %, Reserves games also forfeited. I think in 2022 a few teams only played 8 or 9 of their allotted 14 games due to forfeits.

Going to be interesting to see what they do, maybe a large Premier division of 12-14 teams and put the rest back in the divisions with no reserves

Hopefully they do something cos the women love it.

Monash last season game 24.12 to 0.0 but half the opponents played reserves and seniors. Monash were very appreciative cos the ressies got a run going in to finals instead of another forfeit

Yep, doubling up is brutal. Clubs won't want women's reserves, forfeits are too pricey, and why should the players pay full fees if they miss a handful of games due to the opposition not having enough.

One big premier division with maybe 20 rounds and byes is the go I reckon.

Would be worth a try.

Somethings got to give in Womens comp with a total re-think on the structure.

There are currently around 15 clubs with a reserves; clubs with reserves get placed in the Premier Comp regardless of skill and results (its not like all mens clubs with a thirds get placed in Premier and good numbers doesn't always equate to skill!); its not fair.

In Prem B the difference between the top and bottom teams is enormous. There are also Division ones teams who would be up there in Premier A; but dont have a reserves so not allowed!!.

And even though some clubs struggle for two teams, and even one team; the VAFA has allowed a thirds comp; which has created super clubs to the detriment of the rest of the competition and clubs.

The VAFA have finally started to give some thought on how to structure it more fairly and sustainably. It is by far the biggest and best women's footy comp in Australia; and time the VAFA put some more resources and strategic planning into it.

Having women's teams most definitely saved our club from folding.....time to give the womens competition its 'just deserts'.

Totally agree, needs a big shake up. Clubs just don't want their reserves team playing somewhere else and possibly a different time to their senior team due to resources strain.

St Kevins/Kew/West Brunswick look to have the competition in a stranglehold. Also most of them have a large amount of VFLW players coming in and out of all sides heavily impacting the quality. Rules need to be tightened around this, say if you play X about of VFL games you can't come back for finals or something

We need the VFLW season not to finish so early, which makes those players available, but that is unlikely to happen
