WEST COASTING EAGLES V SUNS UP GUNS UP at 'The People's Stadium' at Sunday, 1:00PM (AEST).

So it begins for Eagles fans once again.
Everyone rejoices as there is the return of the great hero of our time who will lead us to victory, once again.
The next Judd, the Chosen one, the greatest of them all, the GOAT!
The one time i get to watch Eagles live in person a year...and rumors are abound that Harley Reid is being rested.
Cue the disappointment

Darth_Vader_Noooo_Banner.jpg

Alas, not all is lost, for the Eagles are coming off a stunning win against the horrible foe, while the Suns again performed pretty poorly against a very good Swans outfit. Last time the Eagles met the Suns, it was an absolute embarassment for the Eagles, going down by 70 points. We were simply annihilated from the midfield by Anderson and Rowell, while Ben King feasted on a weakened defence of Barrass and Harry Edwards.

But it's a new year. With the Gov and the Mad Dog from Scarborough both in career best form, our defence looked rock solid against the Dockers. Even the perpetual whipping boy Rotham has come in and given a strong account. Look for Houghy to take another scalp, and for Chesser to show more signs of improvement. Plus, the Eagles have this new youthful core of the NINE.

The Nine.jpg
Harry 'Batman' Barnett; Luke 'The bald and the restless' Edwards; Campbell 'Soup' Chesser; Elijah 'The Prophet' Hewett; THE Harley Reid; Reuben 'The BOY' Ginbey; Jack 'Prince' Williams; Ryan 'Sure he's not Jeremy Cameron' Maric; Noah 'MKFIN' Long

The future has never looked so good.

Suns are most well known for their elite key forward Ben King, surrounded by a very good contested midfield consisting of the trinity of Rowell, Anderson and Miller. They also have Sam Collins, a solid dour defender who is as oldschool as they come. Under Damien Hardwick however, they've probably underperformed based on how much talent they have on their list, and the many years of mediocrity weigh down on this footy field.

Key Matchups:
Elliot 'Big Bull and holder of Harley Reid's leash' Yeo vs the Angus Beef Grass Eating Bull, Matt Rowell
Both are absolute contested monsters who dominate inside. Yeo hurts you both in the contest and on the outside. Rowell is more one dimensional, but his sheer ability to bring his teammates into the game by digging a ball out of stoppages is one of the very best in the game, bar Liberatore from Bulldogs. Expect these two to go head to head all game, with Yeo's ability to affect the contest on the outside being the X-factor.

Tim Kelly vs Noah Anderson
If Rowell is the muscle, Anderson is the cream. For TK, the emergence of Reid and Yeo has helped him reduce the impact he's needed to have as our main clearance player. While he's been pretty poor at times with his disposal, he's the cherry on top of a much improved Eagles Midfield.

Bailey Williams vs Witts
Another big test for Bailey Williams. While Witts isn't a superstar ruckman, he's still absolute quality that without a strong contest will let Anderson, Rowell & Miller feast for days. Look for Williams to try and athletically dominate Witts.

Twin Towers vs the Suns Offence
Good luck getting through Gov and Mad Dog. And around them is the Skipper Duggo, the wind up merchant Witho, Cole Train and Rothy. Then you throw Hough into that mix, and it's a tough ask for a team that isn't terribly effective at scoring.

Jake Waterman vs Supply
If you feed the Snake, the goals will come. Can he stand up again to deliver the goods?

Key Changes:
If the rumors are true and Harley Reid is being rested, Dom Sheed comes into the main lineup to do his best impression of a traffic cone while he points his finger aggressively, commanding his troops to tackle in his absense. Luke Edwards mostly makes his way back in as substitute, having recovered from concussion. Was a shame he got knocked out against the Swans, as I did feel he was having the best game of his career at that point in time, but the credits are in the bank for Sheed. As long as those around him can do the tough defensive work, Sheed will help us excel on the outside.

Player to Watch:
I think Reuben Ginbey is the player to watch for this one. It'll be interesting to see if Simmo pushes Sheed into more of a wing role where, as a natural accumulator, you would expect him to both collect a bit mroe of the ball, and to provide a bit more of a hurt factor with the ball. If so, with Reid (supposedly) out of the side, Ginbey should expect to have more midfield time. He's started to turn the corner with understanding how to develop his outside game, while his inside craft, while still raw, has shown slight improvement from the baptism of fire over the last year and a bit. While the statistics aren't mindblowing, the biggest thing from the eye test that Ginbey has improved is ground ball. He's starting to figure out the athletic gifts and use his large frame to break more tackles or clear more space to get away more effective handballs.

Final Prediction:
Tickets are expensive for watching the rabble that is the Gold Coast Suns.
Eagles by 21 in a pretty tough contested game in HAWT conditions.

TLDR
We'll fly so close to the sun and make Icarus our b*tch.

With Harley, Barrass and Long likely/certain to return for the Essendon match this is a big game for some of the fringe players

Harry Edwards gets an opportunity despite indifferent WAFL form due to TB’s suspension so he’ll need a big game to retain his spot.

Rotham has shown some promise since returning to the side and will need to build on that if he’s to stay in front of Harry in the pecking order

Witherden is far from secure and wasn’t a popular inclusion for the Richmond game but has acquitted himself well the last 2 weeks. Clearly needs to maintain that form

Sheed, LEdwards, Chesser and Brockman form the group most in danger of making way for Reid and Long. Perhaps also Maric if we decide to go smaller

The two with the least impact will be back in the WAFL

Pressure for spots is a novelty

Shocked that Jamie Cripps wasn’t dropped

Hope we start well.

Started pretty slowly last 2 weeks and had mini bursts the last 5 mins of the 1st qtr.

GC can score quickly up there They don't seem like a side to just bottle it up.

Can score quick but prob be scored v quick.

Shame Harley isn't playing coz reckon he'd have a big game but time for someone else to stand up

It's pretty wild that they trust a not really fit Sheed over a fully fit Gaff right now. Simmo must've seen that four possession Round 1 game and said 'Never again'.

Cooked like a Hungarian Goose.

Do the Hungarians cook their geese really well or something?

Tbf as slow and dumb sheed is he isn’t physically cooked like Gaff and at 28 is somewhat still in his prime. Gaffs been cooked for a while now.

Would be a lot more wild if it was sheed playing wafl and Gaff in the seniors

It's bullshit, all he does is run...
...ohh and he's also 2nd on our goal kicking leaderboard this year...but all he does is run....
...ohh and he's also 3rd in score involvements...but all he does is run....
...ohh and he's also 3rd in goal assists...but all he does is run...
...ohh and he also leads us in tackles inside our forward 50...shame all he does is run....
...ohh and he's also 5th in pressure acts...lucky he can run though, otherwise he'd be out of the team...

Yeah can’t believe we play him instead of giving our kids Partington, Mutimer and Ainsworth a chance in the seniors

Jack Darling is equal with Sumich on the goal kicking ...lets hope he goes ahead during the game

Can understand choosing Sheed over Gaff for sure, would have preferred to have seen Harvey Johnston though.

I don't know if they will give Chesser the sub role as a kind of mini rest, allowing Sheed to get more minutes seeing as he didn't play many minutes last week (although I am sure he would have trained an extra session to compensate).

Or perhaps Edwards, although I don't see the point in that as he had last week off and if they rate him then they may as well give him a full game as he'll be physically more rested than Chesser for example.

One thing's for sure though, wily old Simmo will never tell us who the sub is until the very last minute!!

Yeah simmo is the only one who doesn’t tell who sub is until last minute.

Cynical old man making a fool out of you.

Delist.

Well I like watching Liam Ryan play. Hope he gets stuck in and has a good game.

You have to go into the game giving us a chance. I'm expecting us to be competitive in every game. Not thinking we win three games then it's flagmantle all the way or anything like that.I mean the Eagles aren't stupid like our friends from perpetual disapointment town.Just expecting the Eagles to be very competitive.
