Yeah not interested in Sharp if he’s an uncontested outside mid. We need more run on the outside but those players need to be strong and willing enough in the contest to tackle hard and win the footy.

I don’t know much about him but unless he has Ed Langdon levels of running power and will power up and down both ends of the field, I think I’d rather pass

Because Dockers got pick 19 and a midfielder last year because they had cap space and we weren't an option just for one thing . So opportunity when it arrives is closed if you have wasted capitol on overpaid players.

People always forget the Freo 2022 2nd that went back to the Suns in that deal.

Why do we as supporters care what money NN, or anyone else, is on?

Let him be on $2m pa for all I care. As long as it fits within the cap and doesn't result in players having to be traded to salary dump. People complaining that Gaff's contract is too big, Fatty McGov is overpaid, TK not earning his pay. Which player have we lost or been unable to trade for as a result of our salary cap management? None? Then who gives a * how much anyone is paid?
Reality is we must spend our cap. Nic is lowballed and gets ambassadorial money from the AFL as a top up. Our version of the academy?

Agreed. Acres might gut run all day but he is also a good size, chops out in defence and does not look like a liability in heavy traffic, offensively or defensively.

The modern winger needs more weapons than ability to clock up KMs and cut through zones with nice kicking. Unfortunately that's where we've also come unstuck with Gaff. I still hope like hell that he was playing under duress this season and we see him back to better footy next year.

The Suns secured the Dockers’ future second and fourth-round picks and gave up pick 19, 61 and 69, with that future pick now slotted in at pick 31.

So 61 and 69 are noise as is the future 4th.

They basically gave up pick 19 plus Brodie and his full salary for pick 31.

One of the trades of the decade by the Dockers.

Would do that without the 2nd coming back haha. And GCS probably still don't go for it.
Gaff is 30.
Sharp is 20.
Suns would rather a player than a pick I reckon as they are in the window for playing finals.
And yes I would look at any deal even if the 2nd isn’t coming back. The second coming back was because we were going to pay some of gaffs salary. Suns would be keen on future picks too

Could throw Rotham in and another half a dozen spuds if they wanted too

If Gaff gets his body right (and that is a big if), then I think he might start to make some posters around here look a little silly next year.

He's not going to play to his $1m contract level, but he's not a scrapheap player either.

Needs to be paired with pace and skill on the opposite wing though, as he's not quick obviously.

For some reason, "King Nissie the 1st" is reluctant to surround the football operations with people of strength. Not since The Reverend have we had a really strong Head of Football.

Vozzo was good but he had been promoted through the Nissie 1st reign and hence was comfortable with Nissie 1st micro management since he had been promoted by his boss before..

Hence Nissie 1st is comfortable with The Pieman stepping up to do both roles. They are meant to be separate roles for a reason – checks and balances.

Hence Nissie 1st is comfortable having Gavin Bell step up as football manager and Ben Sharman as football operations manager. Blur the lines. Allow Nissie 1st to micromanage. Neither of these 2 have much of a profile having been groomed internally by Nissie 1st.

Folks - are you seeing the pattern. Like another institution in the northern hemisphere, the head of the family monarchy is likely to hold on for too long and pretend a son who has been promoted without performance takes over.

Didn't the Pieman confirm he was stepping down after this draft period?

And Gaff wants to go live and play on the Gold Coast because…?

To chase a flag.

To get away from the football fish bowl in Perth.

To extend his career further than the two years guaranteed with his current deal.

As a way to continue playing at the top level as we prioritise developing youth.

Because we asked him to and assist the team moving forward.

Because he gets the opportunity to play in the suns first ever finals and with us moving to youth we see his opportunities here being limited in the future.spin it however the club likes.
End of the day we need to move some older guys out, you might be right and he has no interest at all and says get stuffed I’m not going to the suns.
We do need to explore every opportunity however.
What’s the plan otherwise? stay with the current group and keep putting games into 2018 premiership stars ?

Gaff was most definitely playing under done / injured this year. He missed 2 > weeks around the middle of the season with a knee issue. He was carrying it for a while as we were so short with options and then they finally decided to give him weeks off to get it right.

Also had an issue preseason that held him back from his normal training loads.

Up until this season Gaff has been very durable.

And because we will try to get his partner a teaching job on the gold coast!!

In 2018 he wanted to go back to Victoria to be with his sick dad but eventually changed his mind and are-signed.

Then in 2020 there was talk again that he would go home but he extended.

In contrast to other players that I won’t name, he’s shown amazing loyalty.

Maybe he could be nudged into a trade home to Victoria. But Gold Coast?

It’s not a binary decision: “trade Gaff to Gold Coast or maintain the status quo”.

We can make other changes that don’t involve strong arming a veteran into a trade to somewhere he’s got no links and has shown no interest in going.

The timing of the AFL and AFLPA EBA will be crucial in our rebuild. We are about to drop some serious money out of our cap and I cannot see the Suns and GWS fixing their cap issues in 12 months alone. We have a chance to pounce but it will be important to see how adventurous we are (or risky) with assuming salary cap increases before they arrive.

Not having many A graders or top players in the 24 to 30 age bracket in 2 years time may work to our advantage.

Didn’t say we had to strong arm if he doesn’t want to he certainly doesn’t have to.
He’s a champion of our club and deserves to be treated well.
However surely as a club we are professional enough to at least ask the question and explore these types of options.

Any chance we give Baz Williams a look in the back line? Hasn't shown a great deal resting forwards. Simmo seemed very keen to move Barrass up forwards. He may have parked that with the exceptional finish to 2022 that TB had, but if Gov returns in good nick, Simmo may Move The Magnets™
