Re: The Bigfooty FC Barcelona Thread

Puyol and Pedro not selected in the national team due to injury. Puyol I have no idea about till now to be honest. With Pedro I am happy he is missing a few weeks, should get him rejuvinated. I am also fully expecting Messi to have some sort of knock to keep him out of international duty, he is looky extremely tired. It will either be that, or he will get a delibirate yellow card and sit out the game against Villarreal cause he'll has five yellow cards.

Re: The Bigfooty FC Barcelona Thread

First leg against Shakthar will be at home. Hopefully we belt the **** out of em and play a B team over in Ukraine, keeping the team fresh for the Madrid Classico. Although, there is a 5 day break so that should be enough time to rejuvenate.

Not a fan of playing Real 4 times in such short time. The more we play them, the more likely they are to get a result. Maybe a loss or average performance on the weekend might not be such a bad thing after all?

Anyone know a bar in Melbourne where the game on Sunday will be on? I recently moved house and no longer have foxtel.

According to both ‘La Gaceta de Salamanca‘ and the official FC Barcelona web page, Policarpo Sánchez, a researcher from the city of Salamanca, Spain, found in the archives of Salamanca photos and names of seven persons who were responsible of protecting FC Barcelona during the civil war which started during the summer of 1936.

“Rossend Calvet, Josep Olivé, Manuel Bassols, Josep Cubells, Josep Pujol, Mariá Pellegero y Josep Farré.” These are the names long forgotten in the history of FC Barcelona who formed a committee to assure the protection of the club from being confiscated by the unionists during the civil war.

“Their names deserve to be remembered as an alignment of Guardiola,” affirmed Sánchez. These names have indeed assured the continuity of a club who would become one of the best, most famous and important clubs in the world over a period of 112 years.

The research done will be released in both the official club magazine this week and in ‘La Gaceta’ the coming Monday; it will shed light on one of the most unknown eras of FC Barcelona. This research was the result of two years investigation in which after the archives were found in 2009 in Salamanca, they were being sent to the ‘National Archive of Catalunya’.

totalBarca will be providing you with a summary of the research the coming week!

little bit of history

Iniesta up for an additional suspension in the Champions League because the previous yellow was deliberate. Probably was deliberate but the number of players that do this and escape further sanction is ridiculous. Can't start making a point of it now midway through the season. UEFA should be issuing a statement in the off season warning they'll clamp down on these sort of yellows.

IMO he would deserve it. I think it's pathetic that they will start now, but there is no doubt in anyones mind that Iniestas yellow card was done on purpose. You could at least try and disguise it as a foul.

Having said that, this plan of theirs to clamp down on this behavior will fail miserably. People will just start committing less obvious card offenses, which could mean more dangerous fouls. Not to mention, where do you draw the line at deliberate?
