Autopsy Round 9, 2024 : Hawks slap the Saints

Jai Serong hand that stopped that penultimate thrust forward was fantastic. Ginnivan should have hit Meek up quickly and game would have been over quicker, but Serong played it hard.

Green shoots
Recon that'll feature heavily in the post game review. He'll play next week, stood up today.

Doesn't show in supercoach but Meek outplayed Marshall by a mile I feel. Way more damaging, Marshall got a tonne of cheap ball off half back and used it very poorly. No score involvements is fairly damning.

Marshall apparently broke the record for contested touches. Not sure how many easy touches off half back he got.

Meek was great. The strong marks, body work and tackles were a real feature.

Seems to be a theme this season with both ruckmen ranking as the top players on the ground.

Meek, Scrimma, Duke, and Day were immense. Frost great for most of the day as well. Great forward pressure from Ginni, Wiz and the other boys.

Once we get a key forward and Sicily back watch out.

Our intensity and pressure have been top 8 level the past few weeks. Skills and execution under pressure are improving but getting more consistent is our next step.

Great win! Bring on the Power.

Newcombe
31 disposals
17 contested
81% DE
8 clearances
7 tackles

Just a bull around the ground, broke away from stoppages all day. Looks explosive.

Amon
31 disposals
24 kicks
94% DE
11 rebounds
711 metres gained

Meek
12 disposals
47 hitouts
83% DE
1 goal (5 score inv)
4 marks 1 contested

All huge.

Watson deserves a mention, 10 disposals 7 contested with 7 score inv (1 goal assist) and 2 goals 1 behind.
Yep, IMHO our better 3 players on the day.

Agreed. Marshall went at under 50% by foot and had 11 turnovers which is a testament to the effort of Meek to not give him room to get a clean disposal.

Ross Lyon and Tassie don’t make for a great spectacle. They nearly ground us down but we deserved to hold on. A loss would have been deflating. The first quarter forward efficiency (rarely a strength) set up the win.

Newcombe, Meek, Scrimshaw, Moore all excellent.

Watson getting close now. Big game brewing soon.
I hate to think what that would've done for the teams morale if we lost that considering we led the whole game. Ginni owes me a new remote after his miss 😂

Nick Watson has already mastered the spell of scoring shots. When he can conjure up conversion aswell, it's going to be fun.

That Sydney game now looking like an outlier - the only game this season where a side has really got massive run on and destroyed us.

Moorey so good when it mattered.
Ginni and Wiz were so close to having HUGE games - little more polish needed.
Dear is gonna be great
Meek and Marshall was amazing to watch. Meek started so strong but Marshall really got him in the second half. Still really happy with Meek today and over the last month.
Impey very confident and it makes a difference
Frosty playing career-best footy
Scrimshaw was playing so well they had to try and engineer a way to get him out of the way
Thought CMac was good today except for calling for the handball receive and ****ing up the goal

How good is it to see us get some wins like the last two weeks with a young side and no key position players (ok ok Scrim and Frost have been incredible - but we weren't calling them key defenders at the start of the season!

A win is a win and the moor(e) the merrier but to beat such a negative team in a slog fest is such a pointer for the future. It takes physical and mental effort throughout from the whole team given how close things were - the best type of bonding there is.

A couple of shout outs: Lloyd Meek and Dylan Moore. Both leaders .

Looking forward this team + Lewis, Sic and CJ
Chol, Dear and Lewis will cause teams big headaches.

Sadly, Gunston looks completely done.

2 close wins in a row are a very good sign.

Ginnivan and Watson missing either aide of 3qtr time would have iced the game earlier.

Hanging tough though was the positive from misses.

You could see the delight in coaches box at end of game... 3 wins out of 4 ... the positives are there to see.

Sicily forward and Lewis will swing our fwd half into finishing these games off earlier.

Well played Hawks.

A good win for our Hawkas!

Good to see we have stopped giving away junk time goals and keeping possession in the dying minutes.

For our next trick we have make sure we convert easy goals in front of the sticks. Saints should not have been so close to us at the end.

If anyone wonders where Dylan Moore got that mouse that was opened up in the 3rd quarter - Moore got it when Jimmy 'The Flog' Webster threw a cheap left hook into his right cheek at the 16.45 min of the 2nd quarter.

Moore assumed it was from hitting himself - head to his own arm - in the tackle I reckon.

It wasn't - it was an absolutely cheap king hit from Webster.

I hope they pick it up on review.

Webster was never like this previous to this year was he?

Besides that - great win today, maintaining the rage - love it!
