Autopsy Round 5, 2024 - Suns destroy hopeless Hawks

Too early to say. Newcombe is interesting because he was an absolute monster in that second half against Collingwood. His form is a bit of a head scratcher but he has shown he is elite when he gets going. There are several youngsters that, IMO, will measure up in the next couple of years. I think there is too much focus on talent or lack of talent because the team is looking bad right now but I don't think that is the issue.

Skipped second year blues, for 3rd year blues?

We didn’t want to do the hard stuff.
This we didn't want to get our hands dirty. We need to learn to consistently grind at the contest. The pretty stuff comes naturally once you have mastered the fundamentals. Go in hard and often with and without the ball. Never take a backward step.

Couldn’t catch the full game Saturday so just caught up on Kayo mini. I’m sure we were thoroughly outplayed but gee the number of goals they got from soft free kicks 🤪

T4P - have you seen enough focus on the contested side of the game at training/preseason? Feels like we’ve spent a lot of time sharpening our uncontested transition game over past 2 years (including list management decisions).

Hardwick appears to have but a premium on the contest at the suns - the skilled but flaky guys are at vfl.

There has always been a contested side of the game at training. Since pre-season there has been an intense focus on tackling every week. You have to remember we are only tackling our teammates. Its different gameday where players will try and milk free kicks go low etc. Tackling technique and intensity and contested ball work is a training focus and a work in progress.

Rich the tackling coach always does some work with the players in terms of tackling techniques. The big change has been that last season Hickmott would take a drill working on holding space in a contest and the outlets and how to close them etc.
He has done a bit of work on this this year, but nowhere near as much as we did last season.

Yes because Hickmott was the Contested Stoppages line coach last year. He is forward coach this year
