albo once had a principled position on matters israel. whatever happened to that?

Announced last year and we need the missiles given we have a large neighbouring to our north which is continuing the largest military build up outside of war in history and whose actions towards their asean and other neighbours are getting worse by the week . The same neighbour funding Russia's attack on Ukraine and Iran in order to.weaken Taiwan, Philippines etc Allies.

Israel is far far from perfect but what is the option or do you think we should tear up the contract, lay off the Australian workers and pay compensation and leave ourselves weaker. Different of course if the missiles were being made here for use there.

israel is “far far from perfect” would have to be the understatement that matches any in the history of bigfooty.

israel has viciously mistreated palestinians for decades. illegally occupied their land; jailed thousands often without trial - thousands of whom remain in jail; bulldozed homes; destroyed their sources of income - farmers in particular; curtailed their movement; randomly raided their homes to terrorise them etc etc. now they randomly carpet bomb their country including hospitals, care centres, schools and other centres of learning; depriving them of food; kill tens of thousands of not only palestinians but others (including thousands of women, children, babies, and aid workers )callously showing not a ounce of humanity.

the Israel leadership is callous corrupt, and genocidal, pays no attention to the rules of law or basic humanity, and is (along with russia) the central danger to world peace. so let’s help provide them with the weaponry to continue with their terrorist atrocities for a few $$$. only an indoctrinated zionist would give a second thought to such a proposition.

albo hasn't lifted a hand in defence of the palestinians. once upon a time he did speak out, but since becoming p.m he seems to have lost his moral bearings on the issue.

You'd kinda expect that considering they're one of the biggest countries in history(pop and GDP), Obviously beats the USA because they're never not at war*

For reference AUS military spending % of GDP is 1.9%, China is 1.6%(2022 figures from the world bank)
https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/MS.MIL.XPND.GD.ZS?locations=CN-AU&name_desc=false

Is the Chinese civil war still going? yes, yes you don't trust the figures, do you have more accurate figures? Surely they inflate all their official figures rather than the opposite

CCP are the only ones who think the civil war is still happening. Taiwanese society especially the youth just want to live in their peaceful prosperous and indepdnent democracy.

% of gdp isn't much of a comparison when you can build things so cheaply when you don't have to care about things like human rights and safety. Who is threatening them that they need to be out producing the US by ten to one in most areas despite already outnumbering them.

The only threats Xi faces are-

His own people getting sick of his failures and oppression and he can't keep taking credit for the improvements that the
reforms of his predecessors created

His own people seeing how much better off they would be given how much more successful and free Taiwan, Korea , Japan are

The fights he is causing with his ASEAN neighbours who are increasingly calling for help in the face of Xis unprovoked aggression.

Well the KMT still claim the mainland, but yes the DPP(?) currently in power want independence. Of course all sides are currently rolling with the status quo and most International govts don't recognise Taiwan as an independent state(officially).

Status quo and an eventual slow integration under a 1 state, 2 systems policy is probably the best outcome. But another strait crisis and the US getting involved is probably inevitable

I think it's a pretty good comparison, what would be a better one? Because of their lower wages and massive industrial base they can build things cheaper, this would apply across the whole economy and thus % of GDP would still be a reasonable measure no?

I think it's pretty clear the US is threatening them, they are surrounded by US bases and troops and are building a blue water navy to control it's sea lanes which they currently can't. The US has engaged in economic war with them and the US intl think tanks have been egging on a war for some decades

Yes it would have been better if he kept with the term limits and let another party have a crack, here we are though and I don't think a few Israeli missiles in aus are gonna change a thing

Edit: way off topic, I'll take it too another thread.
tl;dr greatest peace time buildup is fearmongering rubbish

Society didn’t fracture the day the Albo govt was elected
It would have been over decades, and this fraud was puppet master to the abbott govt

But here we are

‘Fractures’ in Australian society ‘graphically on display’ after Western Sydney attack
13 hours ago
Sky News host Peta Credlin warns the “fractures” in Australian society are graphically on display after the alleged terror attack at the Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Western Sydney.

Assyrian religious leader Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was allegedly stabbed in the face and body as he was delivering a mass, which was being live-streamed online.

Thousands of people then surrounded the church and began throwing objects at emergency services.

Ms Credlin has warned there cannot be “different standards” for different groups in Australia.

“Today, NSW Premier Chris Minns said that we are a society ‘on edge’ and he’s right,” she said.

“But part of that is a failure of people in authority, in the Albanese government especially, from the Prime Minister down, to call out evil when it’s staring us in the face.”

Can't deliver services but can afford a bloated workforce in the headquarters. Tuggeraong shops is full of crats from services Australia shopping and going to cafes all day while the lines at the shop front next door grow and grow and the overworked front line staff struggle

Public frontline services across the country.

Meanwhile significantly less important s**t like re-paving footpaths that didn't need it get millions thrown at them and project managers get very cushy pay days to oversee it with entire support teams under it doing SFA

Horrific net migration figures coming out for February with another 100,000 immigrants arriving against a backdrop of catastrophic inflation, cost of living and housing shortages and having the biggest drop in living standards of OECD countries in 2023.
