Bang on. It has been known since the 1980s that helmets won't solve the issue.

Concussion occurs when the brain hits the skull. Wearing a helmet in a collision will not stop that. For example, the many NFL players in America with CTE issues even thought they have been wearing what is akin to motorcycle helmets for many decades. Cricketers such as Will Pucovski are subbed out of cricket matches due to concussion after being hit on the helmet, so even cricket helmets can't prevent concussion.

There is a quote from a video in the 1980s from a show called Crashes & Clashes (an SANFL show showing hard hits and bumps) where a doctor said that helmets are only good for protecting against lacerations and little more.

Helmets are not the key to all this - they are just a revenue earner for companies that make them.

When a player wearing a helmet is involved in a collision, their head will still jerk back or be knocked in a certain direction ... and it will still cause a concussion.

The only way to avoid concussion is for all the players to roll around inside Zorb balls so they can't get involved in physical clashes, but the game would look bloody stupid too.
NFNL branded helmets will be required $120 per player..

If anyone is looking for a footy fix today at rmit Bundoora

It’s a Lebanese church game one from Victoria wearing the big V against a Lebanese church from SA also wearing the state jumper

Even though it’s a church game some very good Lebanese players running around in the game

A mate of mine is one of the organisers

Maybe im missing something … but the new AFLVIC junior directives seem moronic.

Under 15s playing with 15 a side?

Under 12s with 12?

Modifying ground sizes? How do clubs move goals between games

Where do extra kids come from each year when more players are required?

This just seems like a bunch of nonsense
yeah that looks a bit odd!!
it says 15 max for u12,s??
18 max for u15,s
is that something only just released?
the myth bust info is very woke too!!

Genuinely bizarre how slow they are to update. Like it’s not exactly a busy time of year for their socials

Is it really bizarre? As there is no money in it for them they could not care less, that's if any are at work.

If they could fine someone for not updating it, they would. As there is not financial interest to their bloated salaries and constant lunches and lattes why should they bother. They are working hard making sure they have things in place to fine a U12 Team Manager for getting a number mixed up on a team sheet, that's more important.

Yep the inconsistency of game times is an issue for the NFNL.

Would pushing clubs to alternative regular junior venues be an answer for consistent Saturday games? Many of which would be far better suited for girls football.
A Saturday competition option would help and clubs could speak with players and then submit to play Saturday or Sunday.

Ground availability on Sundays also a challenge for some clubs if juniors playing at some ground.

Chump

Grounds are available on Saturdays and should be used. Maybe some outside of the box thinking.

For example, say Heidelburg seniors are playing away, their ground is free. Have two games on a Saturday at Warringal. Let's say Heid v Bundoora and Monty v Epping. All around the league there is two games at each ground, every Club gets to host a few of these.

Let it become a Saturday Competition. This could stretch resources, but they need to be able to stand alone so give them the Saturday. Junior girls can be involved as they play Sunday but can support and assist.

Clubs could come back and have functions afterwards; canteens and bars could be open so making money whilst men's sides away.

This will push some resources like umpires and volunteers but just keeping it as is, in my opinion does not grow the ladies game.

I am a big fan of Friday nights, Saturday afternoons (after seniors).

There are a lot of different ideas, but I think, and could be wrong, but the biggest issue is letting it grow away from its association with Sunday afternoons and juniors.

The NFNL has introduced a new tie-break system across all competitive junior competitions for season 2024.

In a bid to further enhance fairness and competitiveness across junior competitions within the NFNL, a new ladder and tie-break system has been introduced for the 2024 season. This new system aims to provide a fairer method for determining ladder positions in the event of teams finishing with identical win-loss match ratios.

The system, which has been implemented for several years in neighbourhood leagues, aims to disincentive winning by large margins, and encourages coaches to equalise participation and time spent on the field for participants.

In particular, the system:

– Promotes greater player movement in positions across the ground.
– Encourages rotation of players and improved game time for players which benefits player retention.
– Allows more freedom and flexibility when teams are moved up or down after round 4, as margins and percentages are no longer.

Under the revised rules, all junior ladders will now be based solely on win-loss match ratio percentage from games played within each respective division. Notably, there will be no consideration given to points for or against percentages in junior competitions.

In the event that teams are tied on the same match ratio percentage after the home and away season, the following tie-break system will be implemented to establish ladder positions:

Two Team Tie-Break System:

Match Ratio: The team with the superior match ratio percentage will be placed higher on the ladder.

Win-Loss Record of Head-to-Head Competition: If the match ratio percentages are still identical, the team with the better win-loss record in head-to-head competition between the tied teams will be favoured.

Points Against/Conceded in Head-to-Head Games: Should the tie persist, the team with fewer points against or conceded in head-to-head games between the tied teams will be given precedence.

Win-Loss Record Against Highest Common Opponent: If necessary, the win-loss record against the highest common opponent will be considered, proceeding downwards if needed.

Average Points Against: Finally, if all previous tie-breakers fail to separate the teams, the average points against will be used to determine the final ladder position.

Three Team (or more) Tie-Break System :

Best Winning Percentage of Games Played Among Tied Teams: The team with the highest winning percentage of games played among the tied teams will be placed highest on the ladder.

Points Against in Head-to-Head Games: If required, the points against in head-to-head games between the tied teams will be taken into account.

Record Against Highest Common Opponent: Following that, the record against the highest common opponent will be considered.

Average Points Against: Finally, the average points against will be utilised to finalize the ladder positions if the tie persists.

NFNL CEO Martin Stillman provided the following comments regarding the updated system.

“Our goal is to continuously improve the quality of our competitions and provide the best possible experience for our junior participants,” he said.

“By implementing this new system, we’re prioritising fairness and integrity, which are fundamental values of the NFNL.

“We’re excited to see how the new ladder and tie-break system will unfold throughout the season, we believe it will contribute to a more exciting and equitable competition for all involved.”

NFNL at its best trying to equalize the junior comp and introduce woke rubbish to solve a problem that doesnt exist.
5 different scenarios to avoid using the for/against percentage that has worked forever?
Fairness and Integrity???
How does this stop the top side from thrashing the bottom side?
– Promotes greater player movement in positions across the ground.?? How??
– Encourages rotation of players and improved game time for players which benefits player retention. How?? Coaches should be doing this anyway??

No issues from me. Should bring it into d3 where some clubs play bottom sides 2 times and others once
