He's definitely fitter but as someone who doesn't thrive on physicality playing as a back flanker doesn't lead to me to believe he'll standup in our midfield with our emphasis on contested possession. He is fitter now but I don't think he plays with as much power as he did before either, he seemed more able to standup in or run through arm tackles but not at the moment.
Agree coops, but imo he doesn’t need to be overly contested, as we need him to receive it off our bulls to utilise his run/carry/spread out of the stoppage.

Without Saads run and carry I don't understand why we don't try and get the ball to Boyd at all costs. Elite kick and could really be a weapon running out of defence

Agree with you. Other teams make special effort to get the ball to their “quarterback” out of D50 - I think of guys like Laird, Daniel, Blakey, Coleman, Daicos, N. Martin, etc. We should be doing this more with Boyd and Saad. Use the weapons we have. Elite kicks are few and far between on our list, need to maximise the ones in the backline as we go forward.

Go look at 2019 Finals series. What GWS best player as a mid. The Preliminary Final against Pies he was amazing in a big upset. Just one example
One game wonder. We tried putting him in the midfield when he first came across and that was a big fail. With all the injuries he has had playing midfield isn't ideal. Not the same player he was at 25.

No we didn't. After that 8 out 9 losing streak last year, we made changes. We stopped bombing it long blindly and we won 9 games in a row.
I don't know why Voss is going back to it.
Us bombing the ball inside 50 was not the reason we were so poor early last year…

M2C - not a bad effort but:

Cottrell isn't a winger.
Charlie needs to play further up to start moving.
Cerra on ball please and Kennedy to rotate with Cripps.
Cuningham half forward
Martin forward pocket
Ollie needs to be back on the wing.
C Durdin shouldn't be omitted.
Not sure I like Hewett as sub as he adds little run.

:)

From today’s injury update …

FOUR Blues will undergo tests to assess their availability this week …

Zac Williams (glute soreness)
• Subbed out of the game on Friday night with glute soreness
• Availability: Test

Mitch McGovern (hamstring)
• Availability: Test

Caleb Marchbank (back)
• Availability: Test

Jack Martin (hamstring)
• Availability: Test

My gut feel is Voss will go back to the mid sized defence of late last year

Boyd Weitering McGovern
Cincotta Marchbank Newman Kemp

Only Saad missing from best line up

Allows Williams to Wing or HF/Mid which will suit him. For all Williams talent he is NOT a one on one player. He is a running creater that can find the ball.
Reckon #15 gets in there if fit

Williams has never had a tank, nor does he have one now, another unicorn

HF, rotations through middle, sure, has that type of burst, but no where near the endurance to play as a full time mid and definitely not a wingman

Plenty of data, or lack thereof to support it
And he can adjust to his new position at half forward for a couple of weeks at VFL level.

I'm amazed at how little our VFL side trials listed players in alternative positions, Lemmey seems to be one of the few exceptions. Great level to use Kemp further up the ground, but why try something different?

Me Likey!

That’s a great team - like the tall/small combos on & off the bench.

My only change would be keeping Durdin in for Cowan.

Williams or Cerra can provide half back cover if needed.

I’d give Durdin a 10 tackle target.

It’s not like he’s setting the world on fire down back - in fact a few here suggesting he be dropped this week.

Why not try something like a move to HF / pinch hitting mid?

I’d love to try his dynamism and creativity up forward.

The scoreboard was the only thing we were close in with both games, completely outplayed by the opposition.
Ultimately, the scoreboard is the thing that counts . Plenty of scope for improvement in how we are playing, we aren't all that far behind them.

The depth of analysis and content between a win and loss is extreme, always has and will

Even the media, Carlton lose by a kick, " they did X poorly, opposition did Y well".

Win by a kick, reverse analysis

I'd probably be more concerned if we played at our best and lost by 6 goals
