Not the same as being in the team on the day for sure, but if you could name three emergencies and they were part of the squad on the day with the potential to play should a warm up injury occur , you would probably feel more deserving and recognised than someone who was given a medal by the...
I don’t know how many players are named on the day outside of the required players.
But what if the announced squad for the GF received a medal if the team won. If it is say a squad of 25 players named for GF day is allowed.
Then you can include emergencies who were a big part of the season...
I think it’s so obvious. It’s not a bad thing to be rested and play 65 or 70% of the games and prolong your career at his age. Allows the new younger players to develop.
His form is also mixed which I’m sure is just a case of needing to be refreshed combined with ageing and slowing down.
Rest...
I like your posts.
Agree on Erasmus, I thought it would have been best to develop him from the start at half forward and gradually build him into midfield. Like Rozee. Granted he doesn’t have the same pace but I think it would of been the way for him.
Totally agree in why we never play the...
can’t really agree with that. Luke Ryan was AA previous two weeks.
We have seen it before when we lose the contested possession, have massive turnovers count and they win the intercepts. I think the backline is going to struggle.
All this players you mentioned were down for sure.
But something...
The two Adelaide games were played with a very high intensity high pressure game. Plus sleeping away from usual environment and they must have felt flat after such huge effort and falling short at the last minute.
Why wouldn’t the selection committee recognise this and refresh the side for the...
Loss of Darcy and introduction of Tabs. result, less marks inside 50, less goals, less pressure inside 50. I didnt look up stats but thats what it looks like to me. Walters also became ineffective either because of these two changes or he is just old and tired. Falling on the ground a lot isnt...
I liked McDonald also but if we have Jackson available as forward ruck he probably isn't needed. Seems the issue we had this year and last is not having a back up ruck to play at the standard. Dont understand why that wasnt addressed, or at least concede the ruck as we missed the scoring of...
Saw it last season, that sea fly what happened after a couple of games .first two games without Darcy , the media talk was why do we need tie rucks. Then next two games faded and lost impact.
Same again this season.
But we would have won with Darcy in both games and we are so close that the...
Walters or Switkowski as sub. Need impact
Players as sub
JOM amd Ras mare middle distance runners . Will grind. You down over the long run but won’t win a 100 or 200 metre sprint .
I dont have stats to back that up.
This 100%. I watched the game in Thailand with my Thai stepson.
He loved the game by the way , but had to constantly explain the difference between two sides in close pressure games like this is the B grade players in your team.
Pointed out Erasmus costing us three turn overs in the last when...
I think while Banfield has had an impact playing wing or up the ground, he was missed in the forward line. He is in good form this season and with Sonny playing most of the game falling on the ground we
Missed another agile opportunist.
Tabs , while you can say he has some results since coming...
Did anyone else hear Kellie Underwood in that eagles game after Reid kicked a goal and tugged his jumper ?
Something like “look at the passion , he’s going to play the full 2 years before he returns to Victoria”
WT?
I picked up a slight difference watching Swans and Collingwood to our movement from the back line and in particular half back.
They seemed to have a lot more , like 3 or 4 players either running past or sideways (but forward of sideways)or at the kicker to generate the short pass.
This was done...
Sort of .
You go in to each battle with a 100% belief you can win……but the war… that’s a longer game with a longer strategic outlook.
Personally, I prefer some other coaches styles over Longmuir but I was just pointing out that the club does have a plan and is not drifting aimlessly. It might...
Not sure I agree with some of this. Let’s be realistic, Clubs don’t expect to win a flag every year.
The preferred method for sustained success with a window for multiple flags is via a strategic plan , usually 5 years.
All that has happened here is the coach has been signed for the extra year...
Which is why I didn’t understand JL not replacing Darcy with another ruck.
Instead we changed three positions.
Darcy, Jackson and Treacy.
Even understanding we didn’t have an ideal back up ruck , we really lost what was building in the forward line.
Setting aside the (legitimate) argument of being young and experienced….
I felt convinced today there is a leadership problem and it is the cause of the decline of intensity and effort from last year.
To watch 10 goals be piled on in the 2nd quarter, without Alex Pearce remonstrating...
Wingers were beaten.
Tag Bolton at half time and win. Tag Bolton and 3 quarter time and win. Tag Bolton in last 15 minutes and win.
Sides of a bye struggle is a thing. Is it
Possible to set the fixtures so the sides off a by play each other. Brisbane struggles today, could we have played them...
I agree that a focus just on Jackson falls short. I'm just saying back in what is happening. I believe it's mostly engineered and lets wait for the outcome , post trade period and in 2 years time.
I suspect there are more pieces to the puzzle than Jackson and my point was that the player exodus...
I don't see any issues. I think this outcome is mostly engineered.
My experience has been from a business point of view you are always looking to improve your list. Identify areas you need to improve and then make it clear to those that don't meet the standard that they would be better off...
While I’m at it. Why can’t the ump just have an option to give a warning if a player starts to gesture after a free kick.
Instead of 50 or nothing. Pretty easy to call warning and if they or others i that team continue then give the 50.
If the gesturing or reaction was too strong and over the...
JL, Bell and Garlick would have a 5 year plan.
In his 3rd year one of the markers is probably playing finals, but not the only or main kpi.
4th year finals with a top 4 and 5th year a flag.
As long as we are meeting many of the markers identified by JL in his strategy to build a team and a...
