I think I feel a lot more comfortable with Wilkie playing deep in defence over Caminiti right now.

Although from the TV they seem to be playing identical roles at the moment, I'm not sure there's such thing as a true full back and centre half back. Just depends on the match ups and where they end up.

That is what RTB would have said after we got beaten by GWS in that final back in 2023 when they had too much speed for us.

Since then we have recruited speedy players as you can teach speedy players skills but you can't teach skillful players speed.

If Gout Gout can learn to kick and handball I think we should make a play for him, he could be electric off the half back line.
Was at that game, I’ve never seen a quicker looking side than GWS that day, they were unbelievable.

And frankly, they’re costing themselves premierships because they cannot ****ing hold onto a lead for the life of them.

We are averaging over 100 per game. Small sample size and some harder matches to come. But it does seem like we have picked up where we left off in the last 8 weeks of 2024. Pushing towards that 14 goal per game average. Moving the ball very quickly. Anyone who says Lyon hasn't evolved his coaching has not watched the Saints since July last year.

Watching the Dragons/Jets game at Moorabbin.

Fincher has kicked into the man on the mark, rode a bloke into the ground and given away a free, then kicked long to a 2-on-1 against… 😬

But he’s clearly their get out kick from defence. Well built young kid; strong arse and legs.

  1. Was it a falcon, if so kicking to the mark is acceptable.
  2. If the ground won, the free was acceptable, you enforce you make it hurt.
  3. This is unacceptable, lynch the man and find a new NGA, where's the pram with toys so I can turf it...
Good to know strong lower torso though, lower centre and well balanced of gravity so can ride and stand under pressures bodes well if developed right, as upper body can catch up but Peter Andre cannae football after skipping leg day. Were there other options for that 2v1 or was it just a dump kick instance and did he admonish himself afterwards if the latter for a shizen decision but acceptable mental?

All about dat dev at these stages, kinda wish I was closer to that area instead of like 70km away, local footy was always just delightful and Ballarat is just cold AF and often wet.

Garcia is just so promising. He's making mistakes (as he will as a 12 game 19 year old), but it's what he can do that is so exciting. He's got genuine speed, is a clearance specialist and is tough. I really hope they invest in him as a starting mid for the majority of the year. He's got elite traits. Once he gets a bit more comfortable at the level, I expect we'll see some really high quality kicking come through to for him.

Tobie 1 game
Lance 5 Games
Isaac 2 games
Hugo 12 games
Angus 7 games
Max 3 games

Our Kids are pretty good and underrated outside the club

RTB has done an amazing job reinventing himself

He doesn’t get the credit Lyon for his development mindset
We started to see it at the end at Freo - brought decent players through that list and played them
Lazy journalists keep harping back to “dour Ross footy” haven’t clocked that is not this version he’s far more balanced

He had a crack at lynch too. Loved that

He plays sooo much like Libba to me. Probably a bit more outside but the kick action, the tenacity, the production...he has huge scope

Collard played an alright game and now we have people claiming him as a best 22 moving forward lol?

Butler is better than Collard
I’ll get panned for this but for mine we need to move past Butler
Defensive efforts great - doesn’t hit the scoreboard enough for me
Game is moving where mercurial small forwards who can do both are premium
Rankine - now mid played this role
Wizard - doing it for Hoks
Collard has the speed and that uncanny knack
I’m hoping this year Butler is under enormous pressure

Something worth noting - Wilson was off the boil last night, however still managed 20 touches a goal of his own. This kid is going to be a jet very quickly
His last qtr was huge.

The game in the first half wasn't a game for wingers, with the small kicks and stop start play.

He thrives when we play fast and open.

He mentioned earlier this year it is more an Enright gameplan. Lyon is not the micro manager he was an the likes of Enright, Bolton, Harvey and Hayes all have a decent input.
Feel we have a succession plan in place for the coaching. Ross is getting the fundamentals in place and Enright will take over in 2028, all going well with performance etc.

Watching Hall he just keeps moving and getting to the right spots. Really like what he brings

Macrae is enormous every game with what he brings. He basically leads the comp in every stat.

Hugo is building nicely with more exposure. I had my doubts but caminiti looks natural down back.

Sincs and Nas.

Love Owens!

Most importantly never taking the foot off the gas and being merciless

He seriously ran straight off the bench and had a go at Lynch. On the radio, they were saying ' oh don't get involved, you are out of your league'.
They haven't seen him aim up at training. Throws hands with the best of them.
He is seriously focussed both at training and gameday.

The Boss absolutely loved Lancey’s chase down tackle.

Hi everyone! What a fun day at the footy yesterday! Got a Medallion Club invite and watched third quarter on the scoreboard screen from inside while smashing the dessert buffet (best on ground was a tiny apple dessert that actually looked like a perfect little apple).

Anyway, just watched the third Q on video, so here are my thoughts for the game:
  • First half we were torching them off HB but we looked hesitant to kick into F50. Looked like we wanted to avoid kicking to a contest (Ross said something about that in the presser), but none of our forwards were leading at the kicker. Then they were slicing us up on the rebound, which was a concern.
  • We obviously shared the ball around more in the second half and cut them open. We were trying to do that in the first as well, but Richmond's pressure was good and we were a bit panicky and fumbly at times.
  • We looked undersized all over the ground, which you don't expect against such a young side, but we are young and short at the moment!
  • I love the dynamic forward mix. I think King, Owens and Sharman will actually be enough tall forwards, and if we can then have guys like Hall, Wood, Wilson, Hill and Henry rotating through half forward with stints on the wing/on ball, we start to look really multidimensional.
On individual players:
  • Travaglia's debut was very promising. Loved his work in tight, and he made two textbook pin-the-arm tackles to earn frees. We did, in fact, draft a top-level mid of the first round of last year's draft!
  • Hall looks to me like a long-term half forward, and I could see him attending CBs. I loved his defensive running, and his delivery from half back, wing and half forward. Very impressed.
  • I love Darcy. He's going to be a gun, but he's got a bit to learn about the defensive contest.
  • I'm not as bullish on Caminiti's game as others. Looked wobbly against the talls (mostly on Lynch but not always), but luckily he had a lot of help. I do think he's got the tools, so I'd persevere with him.
  • Keeler has incredible agility, was great at ground level and did pretty well in the ruck, but he is a liability in aerial contests. I assume he'll play next week, so I think we need to avoid kicking to him in a contest. Like Cama, I think Isaac has the tools and will learn heaps from this stint.
  • Lance kicked that round-the-body goal right under me. Knew he'd kick it. Even Jezza struggles round the body from that far out.
  • Jones' foot skills the last two weeks have been very very good!
  • Steele may not be AA level any more, but you could really feel his absence in the square, especially in the first half.
