So what is the news of Steele and Webster injury wise?
Hopefully Stocker is going well with the concussion protocols.

O'Connell out.
King definitely ruled out.

Not sure anyone from Sandy demanded a promotion for the Port Game. Boxshall continues to look good, but Garcia and Hall all did well enough to remain in front of him.

Caminiti also played quite well, and so Arie will have to stay at Sandy for now.

If Webster, Steele, Butler and Stocker are all cleared for selection, then the selectors are going to have trouble settling on our 22 and Sub.

Hastie to probably get squeezed out of the 23.

Injury report tomorrow afternoon

I think LOC for Stocker would be pretty straight-forward

Main issue is who goes out for Steele after Travaglia did pretty well on debut. If its Hastie or Byrnes then Trav will probably have to play half back which he did for a bit in the fourth quarter (were they preparing him for this week?)

Likely scenario I feel is Steele in, Hastie out, Trav sub but would love to see Trav's dash off half back

What did we learn from that practice game vs Port that can be applied?

I’d be interested to know your opinions.

I realise that a number of our seniors were coasting in that game on instructions ftom the pope, still…

Taking too much evidence from the second half against the donut team that current Richmond is in second halfs might be just as trepidois

What I love and think is extremely fortuitous is that Richmond were frazzled and it was the perfect opportunity for Owens and the new boys to get some match practice

I think that counts next Sunday big time. Imagine Sharman and co coming back into senior footy on Sunday in Adelaide against a wounded and bleeding Port team at home. This was ideal.

I think Port will make our lunch for us, but let us see how we refuse to be fed.

Port play a game style similiar to the way Richmond played the first half last week. They love to maintain possession and chip the ball around at angles working their way forward, basically denying us access to the ball. We struggle to pressure their game even when working our arses off. Lyon needs to address it this week and not allow them the easy uncontested possessions and pressure up a lot higher.
My memories of losing to Port are that we get smashed at stoppages and it’s akin to men vs boys where they are bigger and stronger around the contest and get more numbers to the ball. I reckon we need Stocker to start in the guts and provide some muscle !!

I was surprised how easy Richmond were able to get the ball in the midfield and around stoppages, and share it around with little physical pressure in the early stage of the game last week, but they weren't good enough to take advantage of it. PA will use the same tactics, but can execute it better. We need to play a defensive lock-down first quarter I reckon.

I can't believe I just read a post suggesting Zac Jones should be the sub.

Perhaps because of his injury record, or due to the desire to see younger players with more upside go past him.

But for the record; Zac Jones has been a major reason we got on top of the last two teams. In truth, hes been outstading since late last season. He is playing for his career atm and it shows, you don't bench a barometer like that unless he's not getting near it.

He is a big pink wrecking ball in the clinches and his speed away from stoppage is very handy. His desperation and aggression are absolutely one of the models the young players need to play with and witness first hand. I loved Ben Long for the sane reason, and I love what I'm seeing from Windhager, Stocker, and Garcia in that regard. Watching that Collard chase down gives me hope for him too, it reminded me of this famous bit of Saints history:

Firstly, this is how you quote or reply to someone - you did it later so I assume you can do it.

Secondly, the post was mine.

I suggested it for two reasons.

Firstly, Jones has succeeded as the sub. This is of some importance because it can be a specific role.

The other reason I suggested it was because despite Jones being very good in the last two games, he was ordinary last time out at Adelaide Oval and Travaglia may actually be better suited to the longer, bigger ground than Jones. Either way, it was only a thought.

In: Steele, Stocker
Out: O'Connell, Hastie
Sub: Sinclair

Keeler will stay. Lyon likes the structure and Keeler is effectively playing the King role until Max returns (whenever that is). If he's not in the team then you need another key forward.

Plus I agree with the other comments that Owens needs to keep playing 100% forward. He's owning the F50 and the consistency is helping him.

Stocker for O'Connell likely the only change unless Webster doesn't come up.
Stocks for LOC should be a given. If Steele comes in then one of Trav, Byrnes or Hastie miss out but that'll come down factors other than BF posters wanting Monty dropped. My guess would be Hastie.

We've learned to play without King now anyway, probably go a bit better without him actually for some reason.
Maxie is a cherry on top player now, if we get 2 or 3 good games out of him a season we'll be going ok.

Rtb seems to love Monty, but he'd want to start lifting his game a bit with players breathing down his neck for his spot.
I think he holds for now.
That's a good thing.

King would be substantially more useful if he could just ruck for 20% of the game.

Not sure we will ever have enough faith in his body to facilitate that however.

I think if you can win the next 2 in Adelaide, then the Saints could seriously be looking at that top 2/4 area at the end of the year.

You'll clearly win say 11 of 14 at Marvel with potential losses to only Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Brisbane. Then you only need to find 3 elsewhere, with severely winnable games against Melbourne at Alice Springs, Richmond at the MCG and West Coast at Optus.

I'm a bit bullish about St Kilda even though I'm not invested in them as a Melbourne supporter.

They've try to keep him away from the ruck and going mean and lean with him.
Maybe he's not a racehorse, maybe we should use the rest of the year flogging him in the gym and building a monster out of him.
He's too fragile in current form.
