Autopsy 2025 AFL Round 3: Saints thrash Tigers

We saw it plenty in 2009.
End of the day you need the players.
And it appears, finally, we are getting them.

I was pointing out a a couple of weeks ago that Draftguru has us with the best list we've had in years. So many Bs that can all step up on their day coupled with a lot of youth ready to surge and 5 for 6 actually guns. Probably around 10 guys that are underrated or have massive growth potential. Right now we are looking like a credible club. We have to keep making it into wins but for games style and talent at hand we are all of a sudden in a good place.

You'd hate to be planning against us right now. We have a hydra of evenness- cut off one head and some other B grader has an A game.

Yes but there is an argument that Geelong at marvel is a bunny for us.

Port in port would be massive.
Flag contender GWS gather round - would be huge
Dogs look finals bound - belted us last year.
Lions Marvel reigning premier. Bit of a statement if we could do it.

Two weeks ago Richmond looked too hard. Now none look impossible.

Momentum and confidence are hard to get started but even harder to stop. Knock off Port and we'd start to get up to a pretty fast pace.
Was just telling Barrels that a little tiny bit of relevancy from our last 2 wins has definitely kicked the hornets nest. Lots of other fans want to argue our youth and list is still terrible.

Any result in Adelaide against an Adelaide team is a bonus. As long as a loss is not a belting I think it's less important.

GWS on a neutral ground however do look gettable. They've clearly got some demons related to not being able to hold onto a lead after their finals campaign. We almost ran over the top of them last year and that was during a period when we were looking really average.

Track watchers all preseason talked up Hall. I couldn't see it as much, until the match sim and contested stuff started..

Glad to say, as usual, I was off on my assessment.
Seems to me a real current day 'Hawthorn' type player, sharp, clean by hand and foot, good pressure, and knows where to run to get to space. Bob's up for a goal or two.

Really like him and Byrnes on the wings. They run both ways, get back in defence and gives an option coming out of defence and in attack.
We have done this really out of necessity basically missing a forward line and even dropping Hammer back in defence as well.

Have been pleasantly surprised by Mason Woods move to the forwards. Always thought he was played out of position at North and we had found his spot on the wing.
Seems his muscle memory has kicked in and he is playing very good footy up front.

A really hard stretch of 4 easily losable games coming. If we can half it, I will be satisfied.
Yes it was against Richmond who are in major rebuild, however it wasn't like we had our full team in and no kids.
After the Port preseason and the game against Adelaide, my confidence was shaken after reporting positively most of the preseason. Good to see some it wasn't too misplaced.

North wanted him to be a stay at home KP power forward. He's much better on the move and the way he's playing now is more of a mobile type of forward. He's back to his 2023 best after his injury riddled 2024.

Don't mind being underestimated. Go Keyser Soze on them.

Have we delisted any of the kids Ross has blooded yet?

(Genuinely can’t remember)

I think he has done a very good job of balancing the blooding of youth and the competitiveness.

What we just need however… is another 2-3 to go from what they are into the Owens or Nas levels.

Caminiti looks an obvious one now that it’s a very simplified ask for him.

Pou is the great white hope.

Travaglia and Tauru could be anything but it’s still very early days as to the limit of what that is.
No we haven't delisted any of those. IIRC RTB arrived just before the Pou draft so we've lost Hotton and Van Ess from then but they'd never got to debut. Hammer, Pou and Keeler are the survivors. Aside from them, there's not really been an opportunity to delist other draftees as theyve still been under their initial contracts though Gus and Irish are likely year to year.

Really pleased to see Jimmy getting some love here. At half time I said to the person I went to the game with that if we won, a lot of praise would (rightfully) go to Sincs, Macrae, Higgo etc., but that Jimmy has been absolutely massive.

Guys in his position rarely get the praise they deserve, but Jimmy has been one of the first names on the team sheet for a very long time.
Jimmy has been one of my favorites for 10 years hard as a cats head, laser left boot and not afraid to use it. Just does his job week in and out.

Wasn’t thrilled to see Jack forced out of the kennel , happy to see he’s doing well. Still has a lot to give to footy and is showing Bevo just that.

Excellent get for you guys, he is a ball magnet

That Bont is also starting to look a little old with the calf now.

Happy to take him off your hands. You probably have another FS that you’ll need to fit in soon enough.

Small sample size but shows you why some posters were confident we could replace battles output. Challenge for Caminiti is to now produce this output regularly and become as reliable as Josh was.
I agree.

Also Hammer is 5 years younger and 3cm taller with more bulk. Battle couldn't play on Lynch/Daniher types, but Hammer can play on them. And before anyone says, I still think Battle is a gun.

Haha, no way.. there would be a bloodbath revolt…..

Seriously though, happy Jack is playing on and doing really well with the Sainters. A smart player and would still be handy with us.

But he wasn’t getting field time and I can understand why he wanted to move on to a club that could give him that,

Noticed on your board the thread practically calling Sanders a bust.

What’s the go there?

Also with Croft & Busslinger?

Bit of poachable young talent at the Kennel.

Need the big scalps.

The next 4 are ****ing tough.
Port - loss
GWS - loss
Dogs - hard call; depends “which” Dogs
Bris - loss
Freo - win, but only cos it’s at home

Port next week has to be a game we win.

Accept we lose to the Giants.

Dogs back at Marvel. Henry King Howard Pou Clark Stocker fit?

Lions don’t scare me as much without Daniher. But that’s a likely L.

Port are as gettable as they've been in ages. Surely we are due for an Adelaide Oval win...
GWS will be tough but maybe having played on the rectangle before gives us a slight advantage.
Dogs always tough but they did struggle for half of the game on Friday. If we start fast, maybe we could hold on like we did in 2023.
Lions like to spank us at Marvel but their wins haven't been overly impressive (which is scary for the rest of the comp once they fit real form).

Definitely not easy but this stretch could be the making of our year. If we can split them 2-2, it would be an amazing result. Optimistically tipping winning against Port and the Dogs.
