Much talk in OE circles about Beaconsfield looking to follow Berwick’s footsteps to the EFL?
Local footy show tonight, saying 4 ex SEFNL clubs, want out of the outer east and head to the MPNFL,but watching it I don't like there chances, should be looking to the EFL

The MPNFL have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes for a couple of years now trying to poach clubs. Surrounding leagues are not happy about it.

Funnily enough it’s just the head office… the existing MPNFL clubs don’t want them.

Was surprised when I saw that as well. I thought they were all apparently happy where they are now.

Apparently at least two clubs and possibly 4 former SEFNL clubs have made approaches. They mentioned Cranbourne and Narre Warren by name.

The club presidents that they spoke to at Rye, Frankston Bombers, Crib Point and Tyabb all seemed to have no interest, particularly the Rye president.

It would seem unusual if the League were to make moves on poaching clubs without the support of their member clubs.

EFNL would probably be their best bet if these former SEFNL were planning anything.

Empire building. They’re trying to get to three divisions. Their clubs didn’t even want two.

Those on the Peninsula want to play among themselves. Beyond me why they’re not just allowed to. Everybody north of Frankston can work the rest out.

Beacy and paky the other two?

Outer South East has been just about the biggest growth area in Vic the last 20 years. Banged on about it before but it’s absolutely unbelievable that AFL Vic have not put in place something that works overall. How many more league changes / league mergers / league shifts do we need before somebody actually looks at the whole SFL / SEFL / MPNFL area and works something out that’s sustainable?

There has been 5 clubs that have put in submissions to join the Mpnfl. Cranbourne Narre Warren from outer east. Frankston Dolphins, Skye and Carrum/Patterson Lakes from southern. In the Mpnfl there needs to be a 75% vote for a club to be accepted. The southern clubs on the Peninsula Sorentto, Rosebud Rye Red Hill Dromana are strongly against teams from outside the geographic so Narre Warren would be no chance. The other 4 are a possibility

If the MPNFL want 3 divisions, they should let those sides in,except for narre warren and go after Chelsea heights and south Mornington and they would have there 3 divisions

Could not care less where they go as long as they are not in the Valley anymore. With any luck this utter debacle will be put to bed and the Valley clubs can get back to playing the Valley clubs again.
Would also love to see the commission, and their hand puppet, held to account for the s**t show they’ve caused but you can’t have everything…

Id be shocked if they even want the other 4. Dolphins possibly.

As for “submissions”, let’s be clear this has all been driven by the MPNFL themselves actively trying to recruit clubs against the wishes of surrounding leagues (and many of their own clubs!)

There’s some more chat here -https://fb.watch/7f5KwiAEcX/

SFNL, MPNFL, Outer East… somebody needs to step in and sort it all out in the best interests of FOOTBALL and all of the clubs. Too much mini empire building going on…

YVMDFL ruined
Peninsula clubs not happy
SFNL under attack on all fronts when they already have to battle the ammos for numbers
EFNL now spreading down to Berwick…

How would you fix the problem?

How would you fix the problem?

Id do a proper review, starting with feedback from every club in the MPNFL, OE and SFNL (84 clubs I think) to get their views on which structure and aspects are best for the future of their clubs.

That would inform the way forward and the viable options for the longer term.

The overlapping leagues and “regional commissions” need to be taken out of the process as they’re just going to attempt to build their empires which may not be best for the clubs or the game overall.

(They don’t need to worry, there’ll still be administration positions for them all no matter what the outcome, there’s still going to be a lot of leagues).

I have a feeling you’d probably end up with…

- Something resembling the old YVMDFL

- A genuine Peninsula league for Frankston and those south of it

- Something else which encapsulates all the rest - northern MPNFL, SFNL, and the old SEFNL. One big Southern league? An inner Southern league and an outer South East league?

Ultimately the clubs would tell you and you could come up with what works best for all.

Any update from AFL Outer East to what the plan might be moving forward for all 3 divisions. Have seen some leagues already have put plans with different starting weeks.

Probably not much point until extent of lockdown is known I guess.

If it did finish Thursday evening, would really only allow Fri night training to prepare for playing Sat. Based on the previous lockdown a few weeks ago, it seemed the league stayed cautious with regard to injury so starting back on Sat 14th may have been ambitious and probably more likely on the 21st.. Junior finals though on the Sunday 15th is probably less risk of injury.

But with case counts as they are, a 2 or even 3 week lockdown is highly probable. That might cook the junior season and leave seniors to run straight into a modified finals series? Who knows.

The match out at Newport wasn't good advertising for local footy.

Totally agree but I think clubs would like to see a plan (not saying it hasn't been sent to clubs) so that they can at least plan accordingly.

No easy solution that's for sure.

And yes, sadly the Newport case definitely hasn't helped

Good on them for mapping this out, and it’s fine, but the big issue as we all know is the end of any lockdown just means the countdown starts til the next one.

I believe the AFLOE have a scheduled meeting with all clubs today to formalise plans for concluding the season which incorporates various scenarios in detail pretty well much the same as this. They have already formulated the fixtures to be played and even allocated all the finals venues. This will also include all the various possible date starts. I imagine that they will then announce the results of the meeting after reaching a consensus amongst clubs by tomorrow - Thursday - as they are normally fairly quick in publicising decisions to the fan base.

The big contingency that they won't change is that a Grand Final needs to take place no later than October 10 and that they are committed to playing a Grand Final. There's a few other things such as all clubs to play each other at least once in H&A and at least 1 H&A round before finals. The only thing which isn't clear yet is whether a Premier would be announced if we can't restart the season in any way by Oct 10.

Hopefully everyone gets vaccinated and we get at least 80% of the population done by Christmas as is projected. If that happens then you would hope that the government keeps their word that there will be no more lockdowns after that magic number is reached and we return to a normal season in 2022.

Juniors are already into finals, the younger grades are into their second weeks, no need to train before you play and the financial implications aren't as great. They will get finished as long as the lockdowns don't blow right out.

There is no chance anyone trains on a Friday night and plays on a Saturday. With Lockdown looking likely to be pushed out by another week it probably means Saturday the 21st will be written off as well and the 28th becomes the best case scenario.

When they indicated they where going to a final six system part of the sell was that it can be played over either 3 or 4 weeks. Most other leagues have shrunk their final system to prioritise home and away games and ensure each team has played each other at least once. Feel like this could be the outcome in AFL OE

This headline from Leader Newspapers on the Mornington Peninsula says that four clubs from the AFLOE have applied.
