Literally never played a bad game at AFL level.

Meanwhile Dougal Howard fumbles around, giving up easy goals by being uncoordinated, kicking to the opposition and generally being pretty s**t but because he's a few cms taller and spoils it over the boundary every now and then everyone raves about him.

Didn't play too bad but also didn't really add much either. Decent back up but thats all imo.

Good news. When he fails there too, hopefully this board's utterly random obsession with how he'd truly be a great player if only he was given a chance can finally end.

Nobody ever said that.

People only praised him because he was as handy as far as depth players go. Every time he was called upon, he rarely ever let us down.

If every depth player was as solid, consistent and reliable as Lienert was then we’d be doing pretty well.

What's is his best position guys?

Good size, but not really a key defender is he?
As others have said rebounding defender.

Not really an intercept marker, nor a stopper.

Think of him as an outside mid who plays in defense.

Solid-ish player who you could do much worse than signing him as depth. Just don’t expect him to break out. He is what he is and don’t see him becoming anything else now.

He will be excellent for your vfl side week in and week out and if called up to the league he will do just enough to not make you regret it.

Tall enough to Play Centre half back surely?
Tall enough, but not good enough. Sure he can be a stop gap when an in game injury happens.

Jonas is 188cm and plays FB, CHB, but is physically strong enough. Linert is a 195cm flanker.

He played as a tall wingman for Sturt for a couple of years before we rookie drafted him.

Yep and he was solid for sturt in that 2016 season. Played in sturts 2016 grand final and got a premiership medal.

Nearly got another one for the Port Adelaide magpies in that 2017 Sanfl grand final too.

Dougal Howard was traded for a "First round pick"

We got 12 and 18, but had to give up 10 and Howard. So really it slides the value back to early second round. Basically St Kilda said Dougal Howard wasn't worth giving up pick 18.

Ryder was worth very little at the time. If he wasn't thrown into the Howard trade I would have expected to see him traded for a very late pick.
Big men hold their value and you wanted an experienced ruckman. If Ryder was traded by himself and Port didn't really want to trade him, he would have been a mid to late 3rd round pick, say in the 50-55 range. But he was surplus to our needs, you knew that, so if he was traded by himself he probably would have been traded as a late 4th round range.

Howard if he was traded by himself probably would have been a pick 30, but because he was in contract, can't remember if it was a 2 or 3 year contract, so his price went up a bit to say 25 range.

Pick 55+25 = 963 pts Pick 18 = 985 pts.
