Still a long ways to go, but just pointing it out.

He doesn’t have any name recognition at the moment in broader AFL media, his performances have gone under the radar, partly because we are so bad.

Even with his job on Greene we got done by 10+ goals. Hard to talk up a young defender in a team that gets pumped week in and week out, even if he is performing his role well.

Looks like he'll be our next Shep. We sorely need lockdown medium/small defenders and Hough's job against Greene, Weighman and Papley showed that he's the one who can do it.

Bear in mind, we're getting pumped and yet he still shuts down his man despite the lack of pressure upfield and the oppo constant entries. He's taller as well so he can also keep up against those smaller medium type forwards like J.Elliot in the air and he's show that he can keep up against those crafty forwards. I'm excited to see how he does against those speedsters like Bolton, Charlie Cameron and such.

He had Cameron’s measure last year IIRC.

Shep looked hopeless when he started, a regular whipping boy, thank fk we stuck with him.

I mention this for 2 reasons:

1) Hough is playing brilliantly, not just for a young kid.

2) In time, hopefully 20-year old Chesser can win over the haters like Shep did.

Looks like we've recognised Hough's best position much quicker than we did with Sheppard.

If he’s a fraction as good as Shepp we’re doing well. Admittedly I’m totally biased towards Shepp - of the three who missed the flag I felt sorriest for Shepp - consistent, effective, courageous and generally underrated.

got featured in the post match interview with schofield, its in the media thread!

Surprisingly strong through the hips. Stands up so well in the tackle and keeps his body moving until the tackle falls off. Real BSD stuff

We still think of Brady as the left hand side so we get surprised when he shows strength.

He is maturing really well but there was always a good footballer there. He's sized up to the AFL level really well and will very likely be a beast at 24 (only just 21). It's like we have turned a corner in our S&C and player development and are starting to put our players in bodies that are fit for purpose.

Izak Rankine intentionally did his hammy so he won't get monstered by Houghy

Reckon Houghy has future AA attributes. He’s building extremely well.
He should arguably be in the conversation for AA as early as this year imo

Won't happen because they need 73 mids in the AA side but he's been in the top handful of mid sized defenders this year and has a nice collection of scalps now.

Not sure if it was Phil or one of our other player watchers but I recall someone saying around the draft that Hough just always comes up to the level of whatever grade of football he found himself in. I thought it a promising sign/observation and it is being borne out at the highest level.

Could possibly follow the path of Yeo with his athletic profile and hard nosed attitude in time.

Shep MK2.

Nah. Schofield Mk II.

Did you see them standing together post game, Hough not that much shorter. Can play on talls and smalls just like Schofield did.

In that interview Hough said its great to get some reward for all the hard work. "We've been rebuilding for three years now." was one comment I noted. Something the Vic media are only just picking up on. Now with Richmond bottoming out commentators saying they are two years behind us on the rebuild.

All comes down to one more solid draft this year (Draper or FOS) then we start looking at trades.

Hopefully get some trades in before the draft!

Love Schoey but you’d hope Hough becomes the calibre of Shep than Schoey.
