Hey Kangaroos4eva I’m just trying to put it into perspective, Australian active military is just under 60,000 and just under 30,000 for reservists, Ukraine has somewhere between 250,000- 300,000 troops. Is that correct to your knowledge?

Reuters is generally pretty reliable for general military stats. You have to go hunting for different units, etc from other sources. Usually the defence ministry sites.

This has been going on for 7 years and some people would say for most of this century. Ukraine actually had a fascist deputy PM after Euromaiden, (the so called EU freedom protests that resulted in the Minsk Agreement that Ukraine recently violated.) During that time Russian speaking Ukrainians and members of minorities reported increased violence from far right Ukrainian nationalist groups. The Minsk agreement was a ceasefire agreement in place that Ukraine started violating last year. So yes this is their fault. They had a ceasefire agreement and broke it.

The reason they have a ceasefire and a fight with eastern Ukraine in the first place is because of Euromaiden and the associated nationalist violence.

I'm not a supporter of Putin. But he's not a monster like Saddam or Pinochet. All he wants to do is turn his country into a natural gas superpower, make his people rich and then die with a reputation as the man who saved Russia after the collapse of the USSR. I know he organised false flag attacks to generate support for his own rise to power, murdered journos or had them killed by fascists and thugs and poisoned someone with polonium three months after he'd written an article accusing him of being a pedophile.

He's no different to Clinton or Rumslfeld. No more of a psycho. They'd have done the same in his position.

And as for Russia. There are over 300 million people there and I don't know any of them so I have no problem with them.

No doubt. He’s got a line to Putin though. He’s talked about getting him on before, but I didn’t realise he had that close of a tie to him. Crazy thought, could he actually be an agent. He’s a genius and as tough as an old boot. Kind of fits the profile.

A major piece it misses though is Germany's utter reluctance to engage with Ukraine due to their reliance on Russian gas. Russia can flick the switch and there goes 40% of Germany's gas supply. All of NATO's tough talk and in reality their biggest European member won't do much at all.

This is going to spark a round of soul searching as to what the security situation in the Northern hemisphere really is.

You can pretend all the geopolitical meddling in Ukraine by Western interests since before the Orange revolution never happened and keep cheerleading one side of arseholes in a war between two groups of campaigners. Its not really my business.
