Watched from 13-odd minute mark. It would be good if he spoke more often like this.

Might fix his reputation amongst oppo fans.
He is one of the few coaches who does speak out against the afl if he doesn't agree with it...it's why I actually quite like him. Don't always agree with him, but I like the fact he speaks his mind.

Looking at Allen/Lewis purely from a business perspective (and this may not be popular):

The two players have had extremely similar careers and stats, as mentioned earlier ITT. Lewis slightly ahead in more stats but Allen more durable. Both are 26.

We love Lewis. But if you can bring in a very similar player for no draft capital and you can get some draft capital for Lewis, taking emotion out of it, it makes sense.

The pic(s) we get for Lewis may help land Reid or Butters and we get alike for like replacement for nothing.

It works
I reckon we should be going for TDK free agent, then trade meek for 1st rounders pick then trade that pick for Harley?

Much better.. TDK is an upgrade on Meek.

Respectively, would not do that at all.
Has Meek not proven that he belongs?
He's up there with the best of ruckman and fit's in perfectly at Hawthorn.

Besides, 'DeKoning Mondays' doesn't sound right.

I find the comments about Oscar Allen’s durability odd. Prior to 2024 he played almost every game for the prior 3 seasons. Mitch Lewis is much less durable unfortunately. If you get Allen for nothing you do it plain and simple.
I think it's more with the rumours of knee degeneration where people are wary. Definitely been more durable than Lewis though.

We should not take the lead here. We should be working to extend Meek for 3-5 yrs and keep our lines open with TDK.

If by some bad luck Meek get a monster offer from someone else and we just can't match it, then ramp up TDK pursuit. Problem with TDK is that it is not going to be less than 1mn per yr, more likely far higher.

TDK may be a better player than Meek, but he is going to command ridiculous money. I don't think the difference in ability between the two matches the difference in the wages they'd command respectively.

Edit: plus I personally prefer a more physically imposing ruck, which Meek certainly is.

How would we afford an offer for TDK if we can’t afford a monster offer for Meek? And if someone was able to make a compelling monster offer for Meek, wouldn’t they make it first to TDK?

(I like the idea of locking Meek up. I reckon he’ll be a good ruck for us for a long time. Use the cash to keep bringing in high talent mids who I think will have a greater impact on our team’s performance than TDK over Meek.)

Weagles board is going through full depression atm.

I even got a reaction ban because I gave the same reaction to one post, that the other weagles supporters gave - because it was a funny post. Letter of the law they can do that, but still - feels a bit petty....

RE Allen - I feel like the press conference was so overblown and not needed. Especially with Woosha just standing awkwardly next to him, like a parent forcing his child to apologise. Just felt like such a weak effort and Oscar does not deserve the level of recrimination he's getting.

Compare his treatment, to the absolute silence re Noah Balta and nearly killing a dude via a king hit, and awaiting the results of a criminal trial - yet still allowed to play. That is ridiculous and yet ... nothing from Richmond or him.

Cause I am assuming we offer Meek around 650-750K for 4 with trigger for 5& 6 but if Weagles or Swans offer him 900k-1mn for 5, then what do we do? Take the mid-1st rounder and be at peace.
For TDK, we would have to start at 1mn for 5yrs but others are likely at 1.2mn+ with Saints at 1.7mn for longer. We can't do those but he can have success at Hawks and is a freehit & bit different to Meek's profile.

I am not sure we should offer TDK money for Meek given the differing profile and market demand.

Eerily similar to the Barrass articles last year
For context the source of that article, Peter Vlahos is best though of as WA’s Sam McClure. The only difference being he doesn’t look like a squirrel has eaten a bag of carrots and taken a shit on his head.

There’s some credible sources in WA but he’s not one of them.

Why are we even talking about Meek? His name has only come up because he’s out of contract and some media talking heads are barracking for other clubs to go after him in an attempt to make it harder for us to acquire external talent.

I don’t believe for a moment that Meek would leave even for a more lucrative contract. The exception being a club paying ludicrous money that you couldn’t blame anyone saying no to.

That said, I reckon people should listen to that players night video with Meek and Croc someone posted in another thread today. The way Meek talks about Sam and the club, it’s clear he credits them with getting him out of the WAFL and helping him develop as a player and a person to be where he is now. Great character and I can’t see him turning his back on us for a bit or even a lot more money elsewhere.

Thanks for that and all your other posts - it's been great to get your perspective.

I have a question if you don't mind (apologies if you've already answered it earlier):
Why are the Eagles not prepared to offer Oscar a contract he would be happy with? He was an Eagles fan as a kid, he's the co-captain of your club and, at his best, is one of the best KPFs going around - and we know how difficult it can be to find high-quality key forwards. Yet, you don't seem to be doing all you can to keep him. Why?

Because the compo they would get from him leaving is better than having to pay him $900k plus to stay and not be around for their next tilt.
