Never change - you are so predictable..
I can tell you from good intel that right now there is no consideration to rotate players. That doesn't mean it wont be an option further into the season should they condense games but for now not thinking about it period. The AFL are trying to push for 4 - 5 day breaks for the next release of fixtures. If it gets through I don't think we can continue putting the same team on the park every game, we are going to have to rotate guys in and out or else we might burn ourselves out. So I guess it will be an opportunity to see some of these guys on the fringe.
Top post. I've been banging on about the bolded for years and what's worse nowadays is that the likes of McCarthy and Rayner are also dragging in their opponents and competing for the same ball.Sick of seeing Oscar and Hipwood competing for the same high ball dragging their direct opponents together. Needs to add more string to his bow. Only ranked 9 in the team for inside 50s which is kinda disappointing given his ability to roam up the ground and out work his opponent. Probably the reason why he doesn't get more of the ball as he can get lost a bit. Not the smartest footballing brain but a great athlete who should be told to get on his bike at all costs if his direct opponent is a slug.
McStay impresses me. Coming together well. Knows his limits and plays within them. Doesn't try to be too sexy with his footy. Absolute elite left peg on him. Wish he got another 4 or 6 kicks a game would be talked about as the games premier key forward IMO.
Reckon it is time to blood some youngsters though... esp. against sh*t opposition.
except when around 50 metres outHipwood is unbelievably frustrating to watch
I know hipwood plays a role, is a qld boy and is also on a big ass contract. But if the option came up and Joe Daniher wanted to come to us at the end of this year due to our injury and rehabilitation record. I would be 100% for it. I love eric as a player and he offers enough to keep a spot in the side but i would be surprised if he reached the levels, consistently anyhow, that Daniher already has. (65 goals in 2017)
What his arrival would mean for Hipwood I have no idea, but we need that next level key forward in our team, our finals series last year highlighted that for me. Fingers crossed that Hipwood steps up and becomes that player.
Only thing consistent with Daniher is that he is consistently off the park.To be fair, you can't highlight the 65 goals in 2017 as being a benchmark of his consistency, that was the highlight year of his career, not an average. And since then he has been a broken player, with no guarantee of being anything other than a broken player.
Hipwood would be good trade bait should we bring in an older key forward & not provide him the education & time to develop. There are many clubs that would be highly interested in a 22 year old key forward who still has 3-4 years to reach his potential...maybe a trade for Joey could be worked out if the club feels the same.I know hipwood plays a role, is a qld boy and is also on a big ass contract. Agree 100% Jackess but this is a forum to talk about such things. I certainly don't endorse we trade Hippy and I dont think the club would ever consider the same. Hippy will probably be just as important to The Lions up forward as Harris is down back. The main issue 3KZ, Size Matters, Snooplions, Big Sauce 21 & Co don't understand is that key forwards don't just present theirselves as 21-22 year olds. 99.9% of them take time to develop and its not until they are 25-26 years old that they really start to dominate the space they are in. I know we are all wanting success NOW but these days winning a grand final takes time & planning, unlike the time warp of 19th century where you just go out & buy players from another club to get one. Imagine trading Hippy at the end of the season and then seeing him in 2024 & onwards as the best key forward in the game wearing a non-lions jumper?Expectations of fans really need to be tempered. It was only a couple of years ago we kicked 2 goals in an entire match and now we're trading out a 22 year old key forward because he only kicked 37 goals in a season.
As much as I think that Dan is just starting to mature and come into his own. I think that if any of our key forwards were to be put up for trade, I think it would be him over Hippy? There isn't a key forward in the competition I would include Hipwood in as part of a trade.

That being said, his worth to competing clubs would be something significant if we want a mature age key forward now.
They made a point of the practising goal kicking through Social media last week and they definitely kicked better this week.We are a point behind the highest scoring team so far this year after being the highest scoring team last year. All this after some very poor goal kicking.
I'm not too worried about our ability to score. Not that it can't be improved. Through training, etc.
No doubt one of the roles for McStay appears to be to roam downfield and provide that link to the forward line and compete for the ball, and bring it to ground. Unfortunately doesn't take a lot of grabs and his set shot kicking is dreadful, we have all seen those shots 30m out in front that on occasions are out on the full and therefore not counted in some stats. I don't believe in gifting games, but I have stated previously that there are some good young players who should be given a chance, because if we continue to stick with the same 22-24 players IF there are injuries in the back half of the year, exposing untried players in big matches could cost us dearly.Sick of seeing Oscar and Hipwood competing for the same high ball dragging their direct opponents together. I don't mind the idea of Dan spending more time on the wing, the question would be is his endurance up to standard for that role.Several posters have talked about Hipwood's natural position being on a wing. Given McStay's hyper left foot field kicking I would like to see him given a chance to play this role. Rich to Birchall to McStay to any forward would bring a smile to everyone's face. Next onballer injury maybe put McCluggage in the centre and McStay to the wing?
