I'm never going to recover from the claim that SAUDI ARABIA - the birthplace of Wahhabism and main funder of Al Qaeda and ISIS - is a better influence on the world than Russia.
I mean sure, Saudi types and their adherents have attacked the US, France, the UK, Australia, Belgium and Germany among western countries alone.
Who cares about 9/11, the Bali bombings, the Bataclan, 7/7, the Madrid bombings hey.
Saudi is one of, if not the only, country in the world that the average normal person would say is worse than Russia lolololol.

Its going to be fascinating to see how quickly the US goes down this path under President Trump.
It took Putin years and years before he went FULL authoritarian, the US seems to be accelerating its speedrun into the same dark place though.

Saudi Arabia literally bans the practice of Judaism and its very unclear if Jewish people are even allowed into the country.

This is very true, and Blumenthal isn't particularly subtle about it either.
For someone who purports to cover the world's major events, I do find it interesting that Blumenthal hasn't tweeted about Putin since October last year... and that was to frame Russia's kidnap and trafficking of Ukranian children into Russian foster homes as "evacuating ethnically Russian kids from a war zone".
(As a reminder of what Karim Khan and the ICC indicted Putin and Belova for);
The fact that Blumenthal
a) Refers to these Ukranian children as "ethnically Russian"
and
b) frames it as Putin "evacuating" them (from a war HE started)
says it all. Blumenthal is straight up Russian propaganda, plain and simple.

I mean, they aren't "prisons" in the traditional sense. They are Arctic sites where people like Navalny are sent to disappear without access to medical care or basic civil liberties.
They have long been referred to as penal camps or penal colonies, as seen in this BBC report or this ABC Australia report or this little old website called The Conversation.
