The worst bit, Murphy is now front of the queue for next-man-up.

We know this is how we roll.

Stick to the same group where possible.

He has jumped in front of Nank, Taylor, Ryan, Pedlar etc…

Watch him “play his important shape keeping stat free role” and be locked into the 23.

I’d even say there is a strong chance that once Rash comes back from injury, there will be someone ELSE dropped that doesn’t deserve it - before Murphy is pushed back to SANFL.

We just need Smith to find his way back into the team for normal transmission to be restored.

When will this come back and bite us? When we need it most. Instead of having high skill, high talent players lighting up under the spotlight of finals … we will have the status quo fighting out an effort filled scrappy loss that gets us nowhere closer to a premiership.

Usually is universal except for a couple of true believers

The true believers/happy clappers aren't even showing up with the "herp derp, came for the melts, glad I'm not disappointed".

Even they have their faith shaken "could I be wrong about Nicks, is he really a moron?"

I am beyond disappointed that they selected Murphy it is just mind boggling when so many younger options

Although, in saying that one of the guys at my work is a SANFL top up and has been for last year aswel he reckons that he actually is in ripping shape and best he has ever seen him

Maybe the addition of the depth has pushed Murphy to another level

Happy to have him prove me wrong

eww Marion hahaha

There were so many inner south schools back then. I went to Seacombe about your era (class of 84). I reckon Seacombe, now Seaview, is just about the only one left.
You had a cracking football team in that period you were a couple of years below me!
It’s incredible the amount of schools and students in that area during that period Marion had nearly 2000 then there was Mitchell Park, Dover Gardens, Daws Road and Seacombe and not too far away Brighton!

Ironic that they got bull dozed for housing and now there’s no close schools!

That’s the thing, the output in the eyes of the coaches can’t be “Murphy will produce a lot more than Taylor”. It will be “we need an experienced player”.

How are we to find out about our next group of players, how are they supposed to develop, if our fall back position is a bloke who we know is bog average and he won’t improve.

1970crow is 100% right, Murphy was played in the midfield against SANFL scrubbers so they could point to his game and say he was in form. Had he played the role he’s going to play in the AFL we would have seen another typical Murphy game that didn’t stand out. So they relegate Taylor to that role.

We will never achieve what we could with this squad with such a ****wit in charge.

For ****s sake.

I told you all we are in desperate need of another small forward last trade period. As soon as we go one down they pick Murphy, our worst small forward of all time.

We managed 3 rounds with a talented 22. The idiocy of our selectors couldn't maintain that.

We have Zac Taylor but crazy Nicksy couldn't wait to get his boy back in the team.

He hasn't really jumped in front of anyone though. He was best 22 last year, we added 4 players, now he's best 26. No change.

anyone got a direct link to Balme? I wonder what he must be thinking watching this selection

When has he ever owned that his game plan was at fault last year? I listened to all of his abysmal pressers after game last year and he generally blamed injuries or player effort . I’d love to hear where he took responsibility from a coaching perspective.
There was a press conference at some point where he mentioned getting certain things wrong last year with how we wanted to play, it may not have been point blank confession that you are looking for, though coaches dont really go into depth on these things in general given it involves game style & it's a highly competitive competition.

Then you see the reports from Big Man all preseason commenting how our focus had switched from defensive to play on, rapid ball movement, changing angles etc.

It's pretty obvious watching us he's made significant changes & taken us a little bit closer to the 2023 version of Crows. I'm not saying even that I'm fan, just that people should be more objective & better than hating on everything, whilst never acknowledging something positive that's working or worked.

Lots of poor clubs suffer from Kayne Turner Syndrome. They fall in love with a guy they see who lives all the values they preach. Character, work ethic, effort. The coaches want to see them succeed.

Results and performance are overlooked or explained away. They look for reasons to include them.

This mindset elevated Murphy to our leadership group and got Otten a grand final appearance.

We hope that an outsider comes in like Murray or Balme and points out that the emperor can't get a kick when the heat's on but sadly they get absorbed into the group mindset swiftly.

I wanted us to draft Lance Collard rather than Edwards or Ryan…
