Hope Nick Riewoldt and BT feel a bit shit after their comments yesterday now.

The reason the ump stopped play was because Rachele was in danger of being collided with if we won the clearance. He was not even 10m away from the stoppage. It's also to protect the trainers on the ground from harm.

We missed Rash yesterday as that connector. That 60m pass to Keays(?) just before he got hit was elite.

What did they say?

They didn't agree with the umpires stopping play for a player who was "winded"

The comments were idiotic at best and extremely disrespectful at worst. I have a lot of respect for Riewoldt but he owes Rach and apology for saying that.

The umpire sensibly stopped play because there was two medical staff attending to Josh 15-20 metres away from the stoppage. It would have been extremely dangerous to allow play to continue in that circumstance.

It was extremely disrespectful to jump to the assumption that Rach was simply “winded”. He had copped a knee flush at reasonable speed from a ruckman. It wouldn’t take a genius to work out there might be some significant damage. Not to mention that Josh made multiple attempts to stand up and move and clearly could not.

Even if he was just winded, surely we’d rather see medical stuff play it safe and not rush a player to get moving, especially considering what happened to Petracca last year?

I'm having an argument with a mate of mine who thinks Rach has been poor this year.
Anyone know where to find the best stats for his season?
Especially stats for goal assists, score involvements and where he ranks in the team etc...

Wheelo is pretty much the bible for player and game stats.

NR not only doubled, but tripled down tonight on The Agenda Setters, saying that yes he knows now he has broken ribs.

Maybe the next time that bleached blonde airhead approaches an Adelaide player, they should hit him HARD on the wrist the exact same spot where Mal Michael tested his arm out and made him cry on the field after it was broken. Dickhead.

Your mate is a secret pear supporter

I had a lot of respect for Riewoldt. That's evaporated in the last 24 hours.

There are medical specialists out on the field who made the call. Petracca's injury last year should have been an eye opener that the level of a duty of care is more important than ever, and the idea of a player continuing on with broken ribs, a punctured lung, or a split kidney, should be confined to something that existed in the dark ages.

The game has changed. A lot. Even more since Sir Nick last played. Players are micro managed to the extreme in regard to hydration, caffeine tablets, and energy drinks. They play faster and hit harder than they ever have. The consequences are potentially a lot more serious. The game has evolved. Some people need to as well.

It took them the length of time it takes for our sun to go supernova to work out the footy had hit the post and some idiot commentators are worried about a guy with fractured ribs taking a minute to get off the ground.

I think there was part influence from last year’s media narrative that Rash is a softy. I think we can put that to rest now with him having 3 fractured ribs and a few bigger blokes piling on top of him afterwards, and he was still trying to get up to play on.
