Director of Coaching/Strategy.Can you remember the role they offered?
If we can get him cheap, I'd be more than happy to take himI have gone very very cold on him and really don’t think he should be the player we should be chasing both for perfomance as well as his off field stuff
I personally can't see Butters coming to Geelong! I don't think iv seen any media outlet mentioning Geelong. Apart from people on BigFooty. Until a guy like Mitch Cleary mentions Geelong, it's a only a dream of Geelong getting ButtersSurely Ken comes home next year as an assistant? He doesn’t like the big city lifestyle so that rules out 11 clubs across Melbourne and Sydney, he won’t switch to Adelaide
I think he’s a good chance to come home and therefore drag Butters with him.
None of our targets are coming cheap. Not even Oliver, with all his issues. If we can get him cheap, I'd be more than happy to take him
It depends where Melbourne sees were there list is at season's end.. if they finish bottom 5 , they might look at getting rid of a player on big coin so they can reset and look to the future, as why would you pay that big money if your no going anywhere in years to comeNone of our targets are coming cheap. His contract isn’t cheap would rather spend the money on a different player than him tbhIf we can get him cheap, I'd be more than happy to take him
I accept they could be looking to push him on. That doesn't equate in any way to getting him cheap. They would be looking to wring every last skerrick out of the deal to aid their rebuild. Can't let him go for peanuts when they don't have a lot of really saleable assets in the first place. And they're currently out of the first round of the draft for 2025 as well.It depends where Melbourne sees were there list is at season's end.. if they finish bottom 5 , they might look at getting rid of a player on big coin so they can reset and look to the future, as why would you pay that big money if your no going anywhere in years to come
This "Recruiting on the Sly" caper is doing wonders to Sam Mitchell's Frequent Flyer points. From the looks of it, his wife's too..Apparently Hawthorn are landing all of Allen, Reid & Butters this coming off season![]()
Like Caro, I'm just so relieved he's not doing any of this in a 'disrespectful' way. That would be truly awful and would absolutely have to be called out. This "Recruiting on the Sly" caper is doing wonders to Sam Mitchell's Frequent Flyer points.

It is so pathetic and yet so predictable.Scott flies to Adelaide to meet Boak - so underhanded! So disrespectful! Who do Geelong think they are?
Mitchell flies to Perth to meet Allen - Hawks are ahead of the game! They are surely going to land every big name out of contract!
A player can also agree on a new salary with a new deal with another club.. eg Oliver can scrap his contract and go on less money if both parties agree..His contract isn’t cheap would rather spend the money on a different player than him tbh
I agree but he's the one we would want over anybody else who might be available. #RecruitRowellCan’t see Rowell leaving.
Midway through 2023 his management probably started speaking with clubs as GC looked set to miss finals again.
Reigning premiers Geelong, with Selwood retired and an aging list, probably looked like an ideal landing spot.
But since then;
- Dimma joins as coach August 2023
- Walter & Read picked up in ‘23 draft
- Mac Andrew signs biggest deal in history in 2024
- Suns looking much better this year
Right now his management are probably just trying to pump up his contract to get some of that Big Mac money.
Please let it be soSurely Ken comes home next year as an assistant? He doesn’t like the big city lifestyle so that rules out 11 clubs across Melbourne and Sydney, he won’t switch to Adelaide

After a decade under the spotlight at Port he might just want to get back to coaching without all the bs that goes along with being the head coach.Once you have been King, it's very very very hard to go back to being a Prince.
I know a couple of younger coaches who had false starts at a Senior Coach job went back to assistant coaching (Vossy et al), but there is no way that someone who has run his own team for a decade would consider an assistant role.

Tackle The Headline: 10 AFL players on the fringes at their clubs… and why rivals could soon circle
On the outer… and on the market? 10 luckless AFL players your club could get cheaplywww.foxsports.com.au
Nah i don't think it would cost a lot of picks, just salary cap. Not the second time around.
Good for nurturing kids
Well no one is advocating he take a senior roleHe's good at building relationships with kids but on gameday he's horrendous. Put him in the academy teaching or not at all.
Let's hope he hasn't inherited his old man's kicking. From a Herald Sun article yesterday on the Coates Talent League/TAC Cup
Part of the Falcons specific info:
Not sure when this photo was taken, but Jagger would appear to have his dad's height
