Back from SA…overall Id say I can see why the AFL likes gather round in SA. The AO is so central. There are a few improvements id suggest but I'm sure they will continue to try to make it better each year. Is a Norwood really sustainable long term if it cant hold a good size afl crowd . Not sure.

The game was one that was unusual. I cant remember too many times when another side was that hot in a first half , the goals that their forwards kicked were of the highest level ..ahead at q1, q2 and q3 , in front of their home crowd etc and we then beat them. Dangers rep and status seems to have elevated since the 22 flag. Is it slightly concerning that he is such a strong part of our side at 35?

To me at the ground it seemed that when we managed to up the heat , cause more rushed disposals and turnovers that we won the game. We seemed to embrace more chaos and more handball but not sure. To have such a strong attack stalled with a backline missing Henry and Stewart was a huge effort. COS is looking like the equal in addition to sdek in 22 and BSmith is a heck of an addition.

It looks like we have two distinct gamestyles we can switch between. Our precise kicking, play switching style that we normally favour wasn't really working. Adelaide were well organised and set up around the ground to negate that, and were murdering us on turnovers. About eight minutes to go in the second quarter we flipped the switch and went to a crazy chaos ball, ambitious handballs through traffic approach. That gets guys like Miers and Dempsey more involved, plays to Atkins's strengths, and even gets the likes of O'Sullivan, Humphries, and O'Connor pushing up a bit higher- as well as necessitating that Jezza stay inside F50 where he belongs. Adelaide struggled to adjust.

Pretty incredible career Danger has had. Has there ever been a form slump for him?

Watching Petracca last night I can’t remember a time where Danger has ever looked defeated. Might be to do with the club he plays for. But he has been so consistent for so long, bar injury.

Deserves to be in the conversation for all time greats, especially in the modern era. He was a huge reason we made prelims in 16, 17, 19.

Dusty rightly deserved the plaudits those years but Danger didn’t get them as highly because we didn’t win flags, but he never had the team Dusty had behind him. Dusty is gone now and Danger is still as damaging as ever.

Hopefully his body holds up and he plays until he’s 40!

The reason Dangerfield’s reputation has gone up in the last year or three is, IMO, because we’re finally coming around to realising how blessed Geelong has been to have him.

I think we knew that with his first ever game for us, let alone that first season. He was the main reason we made finals in his early seasons.
The only slight on him at times was his disposal when at full speed, and occsasionally set shots, but he is, imho, the second best ever player we have picked up from another team, in my 60 odd years of following Geelong; that's if we include GAs as coming from Hawthorn, which may not be true.

My biggest worry is whether Dangerfield can maintain that beast-mode into the finals. He was instrumental in this week's win. Had they delivered to him better in the first half, Dangerfield would have finished with 8.
They have got that down to a fine art, allowing aged stars like Danger and Selwood to peak when it counts

Yeah, I think that in 2016 and 17 he probably won four or so games a year just by himself.

His debut game against Hawthorn was the best first game at Geelong I have ever seen from a player (I didn't see the Ablett/Diesel game in 1984 on account of not being alive).

Was lucky enough to see those games, plus Michael Turner's first game, which was also a pearler

Who goes out for Kolo, Henry and Stew?

Clohesy likely to be out if Stewart is good to return on Easter Monday, unless we opt to manage another forward option

Then it'll depend on who returns when and if we're looking at rotating other players for a rest/management purposes, but could see the likes of Stanley, O'Connor, Mullin or Knevitt making way, depending on match ups

Comment of the week. I laughed out loud. I'd love to see a race between Max and Danger. I think Danger would beat him off the mark, but Max would go past pretty soon after.
The race should happen grand final day, even if we're involved.
The opposition torment would make the day worth the watch alone

Danger will become the all-time #1 Brownlow voter-getter this year.

Funny how our three quickest guys have three very different running styles. Oisin is very compact and hustly, while Holmes looks like you filmed James Kelly at 25fps and played him back at 30. Danger is just strong and seems to go from zero to top speed within a step or two.

Great description.
How would you have described Turner, Wojo and Varcoe?

Looking at Danger's stats,
his rd 12 game v NM 2016 was unreal.
48 possessions
23 contested
2 goals 1
13 clearances
11 inside 50's

Who was faster, Wojcinski or Turner?
I thought Turner with the ball was the fastest I'd ever seen.
Then came Wojo.
Toss up.
I know they have stats for these things now. Moreso in soccer than AFL clearly because of the different running demands
eg top speed for Mat Leckie at A-League is reported to be 36 kph, Dylan Pierias 38kph.

I am not worried about Danger, I suspect he will get time off during the season, maybe miss a game late, and he will be cherry ripe heading into finals. We manage players pretty well especially the older guys.

Knevitt, Stanley and Mullin. Blicavs/SDK go into the ruck, Mullin is just plain unlucky.
Can't see Henry being ready, Mullin might be injured.

Stanley has been good in the ruck the last 2 weeks, which allows Blicavs to go to Sicily/Gunston and SDK to go to Chol if they keep him back.
A bit depends on Gunston whether he is sub or not, but the bigger issue we have is who plays on Watson.

Is Kolo likely to be ready? I could see this being a straight swap of Mullin for Stewart this week.
