What was his full quote? I don't remember hearing that
Leigh would often make comment along the lines that "we aren't going out to defend our title; it's ours, we won it, the cup stays with us forever. Next year is a whole new competition and everybody starts at 0."

Pre-season schedule: Cats face Bombers, WA clubs head south

We will also be playing Collingwood and Gold Coast [??] for our unofficial match-sim game.

SUNS are saying this will be held at People First Stadium
Pretty weird but the AFL do weird things.

Surely the Pies would not come up to Queensland for this.
Maybe they are having a preseason training session on the Sunshine Coast again around that time
We may as well just have another intraclub sim match at BHA.

This from foxsports but still not much information.

According to the league, clubs will have the opportunity to participate in an optional match simulation training session at a date determined by the clubs prior to the Community Series matches. These fixtures will likely again consist of unconventional match timings.

I recall Collingwood wanted to play a home game on the Gold Coast. Maybe this is some sort of compromise.

‘Showing us all up’: Young Lions, Suns should have Victoria on high alert

Lost in the euphoria of Levi Ashcroft emerging from the AFL draft and joining his brother at the Brisbane Lions was the call-up of another rising star already “showing up” the club’s premiership-winning heroes.

Sam Marshall, selected at pick 25, has turned heads in the early preseason hitouts, as he and Ashcroft plot to make life difficult for the incumbent midfield.

The Lions Academy prospect had made a statement with his hard-running style, averaging 27 disposals and four clearances for the Allies in the National Championships to earn All-Australian honours, while claiming the best on ground medal in the Coates Talent League grand final for Sandringham.

So impressive has Marshall been, Brisbane veteran Dayne Zorko responded with a long whistle when asked what he had seen of him.

“He’s the man. We obviously lost Harry Sharp [traded to Melbourne] which is really sad, but enter Sam Marshall,” the All-Australian said.

“You would have seen him running around, it’s pretty impressive to see him cover the ground.

“He’s an exciting prospect for us, no doubt about that. He’s got really good, clean skills as well, so he’s another one that’s going to be pushing for selection in no time.

“He’s certainly showing us all up.”

Lol, I'm not a gambling man but I just went to have a look at the Rising Star odds for Levi. Can't even get odds for him because he isn't 18 yet. And he's dominating training against a premiership squad.

Sooo funny how times have changed. Not long ago we'd get daily updates of "Tom Bell running well" or "Paparone has put on some size".

Seriously though - does anyone go watch training? Or is Springfield too far? Or it the late start? Or does it just not matter because we won 🏆 😍
We had some great updates from Section 5 and Dalions last summer, plus plenty of happy snaps from Mr Ripper.

I'll also endeavour to get out there once the intra-clubs start. If nothing else I'm interested to see who we give the new ball at full forward.

I am hoping to get to a couple of training sessions in the New Year.

In the past i have attended training before the Christmas break but the last few years i just go after the break now.
Before Christmas it is mostly running, along with ball drills.
After the break you are more likely to see mini intra club stints along with all the other drills including running.
Then it moves into more intra club as they get closer to February.
One big reason for going is to have a look at the new guys. This year it's Levi, Marshall, Gallop and Day

Over the years i have noticed preseason intraclub simulations is more about ball movement.
How to get out of say defense/wing/halfback/half forward/center. Also, any slight change of game plan
Later on, it becomes more of a proper game. They slowly increase the time played.

Basically, more variety for the onlooker after the break than before.
One thing does not change, it is very hot before and after the break.
I usually take photos as does Mr Ripper and some others and this is a better time to get a variety of shots

I drive from Everton Park on the Northside so it's about a 45-minute drive.
I only had the one time turning up at BHA and training was elsewhere.

I used to always go to pre-season training, I used to take my kids down so they could see nothing comes without hard work and when they saw the team playing they new the work that had gone into it. That was when they trained at Cooparoo but I've moved away now and rely on they guys on here that go out and share what they see - thanks to those that do.
