Sympathize with Cox and the club should support him and let him play through it. We have a lot of family orientated young lads and it sends a good message.

But... Let's not pretend that Cox and his long contract isn't a bit of a concern. His play style for his position seems incompatible. Has seemed to have lost a yard of pace and didn't have heaps to begin with. If he was intercepting and setting up play by foot it would offset his average man on man play, but currently that's not the case. Looking at the training vids in preseason he seems to get bested regularly in the one on one drills.

I think he has something to offer if played to his strengths, but that requires the coaching staff to allow that. Having him one out deep is stuff of nightmares

So hear me out... They are saying Butters is open to leaving Port because he is so close to Hinkley, who is obviously leaving. Sack JL, appoint Ken on the proviso that he can bring Butters with him. Exactly the type our midfield needs. Electric pace. Young can then go back to Half back and give us that pinpoint ball user that generates scores from the back half. It's the piece that unlocks it all. Gotta be bold Freo! Make it happen.

Butters is just using it as an excuse to move back to VIC and get out of a rebuild mode port.

Agree but if we aren't throwing a godfather offer at him then we aren't doing our job. He's from Bacchus Marsh, there really isn't anything there to rush home for. Particularly when you can slide straight into a premiership window, join what would immediately be the best midfield in the comp and enjoy the west coast lifestyle. He also have that mongrel in him that our team desperately needs. Probably doesn't command quite as much as the Chad either.

If Melbourne and Essendon are committing to a rebuild. What players can we target?

Judd McVee looks good, and could provide some run next year. Out of contract 2026.
Nic Martin would be a hard player to get. Exactly what we need, out of contract in 2027.

Anyone else from the sides starting a rebuild we can target.

Not sure about Carlton, they are probably at least 12 months away from admitting they need to rebuild.

Butters would be getting big offers, and you'd have to try and trump them to get him move the opposite way across the country.
Not sure he'd end up costing much less, if anything, less than the Chad.

Not interested in the slightest
30 years old, contracted until 2028, and we have Robinson in 2026 who works in the same way.

Warner or Kozzie thanks

I would bet he has zero interest in coming here as well.

And it is actually 2029 when his contract runs out. Has played his football in a combative manner like Fyfe, and I would have my doubts on how well his body will hold up. Especially with the extra travel.

I’d love Leek Aleer instead.

The bloke is exactly the type we need down back.

Yes it’s not really a need but he should only cost a second. Bloke is not getting a game…maybe with Coxy having a few issues he might like to go home?

Just want Kozzie from Melbourne…

50 k's out of Melbourne.

He would have played footy with lots of players from Melbourne, 90% of his friends would be working in Melbourne.

I doubt you would get him.

2025 - Kozzie
2026 -McVee, Ed Allan, Connor Stone
2027 - Nic Martin, Warner (Assuming he signs for 2 years)

All players that should be hungry chasing a flag. Will help balance our list

The only way I would want Petracca to come over is for us to not have to pay for him, either in salary or picks. Say Freo offer three firsts for Pickett and Petracca but just a first and second for Pickett alone.

So Melbourne pay some salary to buy the draft picks from Freo.

It won't happen, but that's the only way I'd want to do it.

Melbourne would need to decide they need a rebuild, be public about it, and go public about moving on players for picks.

They can change from wanting full value right after they sell Oliver, I don't want them to do it right after they sell Pickett to us and suddenly let guys go for nothing.

If teams can pry Oscar Allan out of West Coast while he is captain and playing for the team he supported, then anyone is gettable. Its a long shot but if you don't ask, you don't get!

Agree! Flies for intercept makes and is physical and quick. Ideal player with Pearce and Draper playing on 1st and 2nd banana. Cox built a career off this but just doesn't seem to want it anymore.
