Are we playing tiddlywinks, this is a ruthless sport where all advantages seem stacked towards the strong clubs.. the only armoury North have is salary cap space, not using this to get a head is IMO weak.. this is not an attack on North I just do t understand why it’s not commonplace.

Maybe write a letter to The Age about this?

Wait a minute, Tom Campbell has moved to ANOTHER club?

Astonishing.
I reckon it’s a credit to him, knows he’s only ever going to be back up but has kept himself in good condition and is durable. He’d be getting paid more in that role than hanging up the boots and doing most other things!

Only scumbag clubs walk players to the PSD.. kinda like what your mob did with Jack Martin. Frowned upon and disrespectful. Trading is mutual and professional, doing shit like that only burns bridges. You wouldn’t like it if bottom clubs started picking off your team players by doing that.

That worked really really well for them didn't it? Delisted and off to the Cats, where they will either turn him into a premiership player, or he will spend a year or so in the injury room, receiving free medical care.

Why is a Blues poster here?

Its a good question. Perhaps he/she is just sick of posting irrelevant s*** on their board and thought he/she would try his/her hand at the same stuff over here.

He/she drew the departure line though when he/she raised the vexed matter of the Jacob Edwards drafting. I try to focus only on good news items as much as possible these days and that matter certainly doesn't rate there.

Lmao and adult would know how to spell Houston.

But you're also inventing things to get angry at because no one's suggesting doing what you've outlined here.
It's the absolute definition of 'man shouts at cloud' on repeat.

or godees on mac andrew

This one is brutal. Sanders will be a great player, but we're not short on his kind; would have loved to have had him, but ah well. Missing out on a KPP of Andrew's calibre just to have the rule backflipped later would have had steam coming out of my ears.

So they bring in a rule change for one year, just so happens to coincide with us having an academy player corruption at its best I say🤷‍♂️ I’m really starting to believe they don’t want us in the afl anymore
Why isn’t the club saying something about this? It’s disgraceful.

Probably feel we're not in a position of strength whilst on HQ's teat. I feel indifferent to this, yes we should grow some balls but it would be nice to get 25,000 of our own to most games before we start mouthing off at HQ. Control the controllables and all that.

Because we are as weak as piss!
Yeah, I don’t understand why us and Godees should be lobbying for this to be questioned.

Test of strength? What do you
mean? It’s a rule every year and not change it, and if the AFL do change it then they must have a fecken good reason.

It was more than one year I think, hence the Dees couldn't get Mac Andrew.

I'm not too upset about it. We barely put any time into the kid.

Arguing from a position of strength... I honestly don't know what you're on about.

It's like arguing with a bloke who has a gun to your head! It's not advisable. However if you have 5 blokes hiding with shotguns pointed at said undesirable... keep arguing. In simplest terms.

I’m pretty comfortable saying that CZ does not possess the fire/will to end up being value for his latest contract. Stupidity from the club.

Me too. Agree with Sphynx that if he was getting offers anywhere near band 1 then we should have helped him clear his locker. The half a dozen games he put up after signing are exactly what he will do for the next five years. Hopefully BGZ and Sausage push him out and he gets traded to a bottom team just as we push into the 8

Really?

I hope he loves playing with his mates, trains hard, leads the younger blokes, tackles ruthlessly, performs and makes us a better team that competes and wins finals.

Each to their own I suppose.

Neither did Melbourne with Andrew. Neither us nor them should whinge about not getting these players. But we can certainly whinge about * getting Kako.

Yes had 15 years of mid range shitness because of only getting pick 10+ of first round picks. The same chicken littles who spent time calling for us to bottom out now want to trade out pick 2 and pick 2-5 next year for a hbf and downgraded draft picks in that 10-20 range because it's a deep draft and we also get a Jeremy Cameron type forward with that pick based on watching couple of YouTube videos and feedback from an online 'draft expert" who in all likelihood is a 15yo Gen Z with no friends sitting at home in mummies

For those simpletons here are the options across the 2024/25 drafts

Pick 2 and Pick 2-5
Vs
Houston and a couple of picks from pick 8 -20

Anyone proposing the later hasn't watched us play for he last 40 years and / or / is a complete moron.

If the current collective group 'GROW THE **** UP' and start being men be proffesional they can achieve 8 wins without Housten.

Spot on. Perfectly put.
Let’s continue to clean out 10 sh%tmen and overpaid contract screw-ups year after year, and to vent our frustrations on being perennial mid table battlers like the saints who are forever chasing the short cuts. No thanks

Yes it's ridiculous to conclude the back flip on being able to match bids on first round Next Generation Academy players immediately after Riley Sanders was somehow all about us. It's not.

The new rule this year in which clubs can match any bid on their academy players is a back to the future backflip whereby it is reverting to the rule that was in place from 2017 - 2020. We benefited by our academy with Tarryn Thomas at the 2018 draft, just as the Bulldogs did with JUH in 2020. The rule changed after JUH as everyone saw that as a rort. For the 2021 draft, clubs couldn't match bids on their academy players if they were selected in the first 20 picks. Melbourne got absolutely fisted in that year's draft in being unable to match the bid on Mac Andrew. The rule was then tightened further in 2022 to the top 40 picks.

Riley Sanders didn't get drafted until 2023 so there was two years of notice that he was not going to be eligible under NGA draft rules. We applied for special consideration in lieu of priority picks to be able to preselect Sanders, or possibly bid match. The AFL rejected this application and decided to give us a package of priority selections of their choosing across two seasons and at the end of the first round. When they made that decision, they knew we were a good chance to be getting free agency compensation for Ben McKay and they really didn't want us getting effectively 3 draft picks in the top 5 as that would have had other clubs in uproar. They also didn't want to make a special one-off ruling and they didn't want our priority assistance to be exclusive to one player and decided several months before the draft when anything could happen to that player.

Winding the rule back this year had nothing to do with Sanders and everything to do with the AFL trying to even out the compromised system that allowed Gold Coast to get 3x first rounders last year. We were unlucky but it's not as if the rule changed immediately before the Sanders draft and then after the Sanders draft as a response to us specifically.

I hope so too, but the body of evidence is that he doesn’t. He doesn’t fire a shot until about round 7, he’s now 26yo with 8 seasons under his belt and his output hasn’t changed since year 3. In fact, his 3rd year was the first that he played more than 5 games, and it remains statistically and ratings wise his best.
He is comfortable, not has good as he thinks he is, and has a tendency to be selfish.
If he was as we hope he would be, he’d be in the leadership group alongside Simpkin. I doubt he even gets considered.
So, I hope others go past him (fast) who want it more and who do the things that you describe
