Thought he was superb. Looks a very smart and measured footballerReported BOG today
Ccj! Surely you jest?Well he did look ok but with Goater,George and CCJ to comeback into the side will he and other supplementary players get a go at VFL level?
Well he is the very definition of under our noses....Thought he was superb. Looks a very smart and measured footballer
From what we’ve seen of him in the past at AFL level and what he’s showing presently in the VFL, I’d have him as the best KPD at the club. Unfortunately he’s not really at the club. From a list balance POV do we really need him?
Chom, Corr, Logue, Dawson x 2, Whitlock and Pink. That’s a lot of list spots for key defenders.
In saying that, his form suggests he is more than capable of contributing at AFL level.
Take this whatever way you want, but a State league coach I know gets calls from many AFL clubs regularly. For example, Cats contact him every fortnight without fail, as do GWS. They discuss a swathe of players and everything about them. Work ethic, leadership, injury resilience, character, talent, roles they play etc. They talk about both his players and opposition players.
He says he has never had a call from anyone at North.
His words: "This is why you can't find diamonds in the rough"
Our laziness and arrogance is costing us dearly.
I sent an email wanting to volunteer my services as a scout a few years ago at our club. I was watching a lot of footy already for a tier 2 club and wanted to offer my notes. I heard nothing after 2 weeks, so reached out again - radio silence.
I did the same with 4 other clubs, and received a response from all 4 of them. Two of the clubs I met with and one of them offered me a paid job as a recruiter at AFL level.
Just the courtesy of reaching out and thanking someone for wanting to volunteer their services would be a good start - which we apparantly didn't have but other clubs did.
God damn that is disappointing.
we should be looking at all avenues to improve this part of our club, especially at the moment with the soft cap restrictions.
Sometimes I think clubs like ours (Dees, *, Blues, Saints probably similar) forget that the competitive aspect is not just on the field and training track but across the entire organization. We should be leaving no stone unturned ffs. Hearing stuff like this is maddening.I can tell you footy people who are well connected all talk about the same clubs when it comes to where you want to get your foot in the door due to the clubs having reputations of being well run and developing their people well. Geelong and Sydney are 2 names I hear all the time.
Probably not a shock that these 2 clubs have been so consistent over the last 20 years, never really bottoming out and are known for excellence in all areas, particularly their recruiting with late/state selections.
Is it funding or just an absolute black spot in our vision internally that we are missing the opportunity for these things?I can tell you footy people who are well connected all talk about the same clubs when it comes to where you want to get your foot in the door due to the clubs having reputations of being well run and developing their people well. Geelong and Sydney are 2 names I hear all the time.

I honestly can't believe that and how unprofessional the club is!! Here is a supporter, wanting to give up HIS time and HIS money to scout players for the club and doesn't even get those 'Thank you for interest but.." letters.I sent an email wanting to volunteer my services as a scout a few years ago at our club. I was watching a lot of footy already for a state league club and wanted to offer my notes and get my foot in the door to explore what things were like at AFL level. Anyone named Chas Bacon …or something similar? Is there a tall guy named Jacob who's not sure if he wants to play AFL in this draft?
Asking for a friend.
Absolutely.it’s more than that.
We used to be innovative to get around our limitations.
Our under weight recruiting department could be supplemented by volunteers who are members.
Yes a program like this would take some time to establish but once established it would take f*** all to maintain and we’d exponentially expand our depth of vision.
Can everyone be a recruiter? No.
Would this be a thing we could go creatively to get around our limitations? 100%
Well we have a bloke called Barlow at our club that knows these players obviously Barlow is held in no regard when it comes to talented players.Just pick anyone from Werribee, would be as good if not better chance of being a league level footballer than any of our recent tactics in this draft.
This is exactly the edge we should be trying to develop to give ourselves a chance against big arrogant clubs but we just aren't interested in turning over stones or using every part of the AFL list management system to our advantage.I can tell you footy people who are well connected all talk about the same clubs when it comes to where you want to get your foot in the door due to the clubs having reputations of being well run and developing their people well. MSD should be done in mid to late June - there isn’t enough games played to sus out the quality players
It would be sweet if we identified a gap on the list and plugged it with a ready-made player.
A running half-back for instance with skills would be a dream.
Or even another crumbing forward to go with Konstanty.
Look forward to watching him thrive in brown and gold after they take him in the 2nd round of the MSD.I'd imagine that Floyd Burmeister will be high up on the MSD prospect list. He was pretty unlucky not to get a rookie spot in last years draft. Pretty raw player but he is a fantastic athlete, who have excellent movement and leap.
Played his first game on the weekend as an overager for the GWV rebels. Kicked 3.3 from 17 disposals and 6 marks. I haven't watched the game bit was told he was the difference in a close game
