Kind of.... in 2015 Gold coast traded Pick 3(Oliver) and pick 10(Weideman) for Melbourne's pick 6(Ah Chee), pick 29 and 2016 1st rounder(ended up being pick 9, Brodie).

Port got pick 9 and 19 from Sydney for picks 14, 17 and 31 last year. Can't really find any other similar deals from the quick look I had...
what a shit trade by the suns

Bishop , going to go over some old ground with you, saw Piper was in one of the writeups on the AFL Draft central page, reckon there is still any interest there from clubs given that this is virtually his correct age year?

In what is/will be a slimming draft than last year he'll be on their list. I know some clubs basically think if you don't get picked as a 18 yr old they don't worry about them - but I'm sure some will look at him. Still showing off his dash as well as using his thumping kick. Has played a bit further up the ground and I know the Stingrays are planning on using him as an inside midfielder.

He won't play Vic Country - but Dandenong should go deep into finals so good performances there should help his chance. I liked him more last year than this year - but I haven't watched him as a close this season. I haven't heard of any interest with clubs - but to be fair he's not someone I've asked about.

Im thinking we are going to end up with picks around 11-14 with both our picks close together, We are borderline top 8 atm with reasonable juniors and still a few yet to be given a run. Chol,Soldo,Bolton,Stengle,Garth. Moore looking promising with graham still to get started

I would be looking to
1. Hold onto Dusty
2. Trade both selections for players under 22/23 (jones & Schache would be great) and really like Hopper as well
3. Get 1 free agent like Jackson trengove and or Sam Reid at reasonable cost without over paying too much
4. Trade some fringe players Edwards,Batchelor,Miles
5. Cut Deep - Hunt,Maric,Broad,Lennon,Townsend,Morris,Elton,Hampson (contracted but cant get on the park so deal with him to retire early)

Agree with all your points with the key being 1 & 2. If Dusty goes, I think we go into a semi rebuild as we will need to bring in kids to replace him (we should do well out of compo for him).

A KPF to help JR is absolutely key for us. I said at the start of the year that Griffiths will be key for us and the role he is to play. Unfortunately, injuries / concussion will not allow him out on the park. And we don't have a backup. Griffiths is no star but the opposition respect him enough to keep his man close to him rather than what has been happening when he has been out which is to have his man peel off and provide support elsewhere. We need a KPF.

i'm liking the looks of Hayden McLean and Oscar Clavarino for first 2 picks. Need 2 beasts in this draft.

Why Clavarino?

Doesn't really fit a need.

I would be looking at Cerra if he slipped to our pick as he has improved his decision making a lot.

if we can somehow convince Sam Reid and Steven May to sign for us, we can shore up key positions spots and draft a couple of kids there to develop in the VFL without the pressure of them needing to play before they are ready.

i feel that leaving the club this year will be; Batchelor, Hampson, Elton, Townsend, Hunt, Maric. 6 players with possibly Broad, Lennon, CEllis and even Miles and Lloyd on the chopping block as well. i don't think we will lose 10 players, but 6-9 is believable, especially if we are going to bring in some free agents.

Castagna and Soldo can stay on the rookie list, though if Georgie gets promoted it will stamp lloyds or lennons papers.

I think we could trade Lloyd for a 3rd rounder. being really ruthless and we could offload BEllis for a pick somewhere around 26-30.
If dusty leaves, we would get 2 top 10 picks imo, which would then be offset for any player we pick up. so prob end up with 1 top 10 pick for him if we get Reid or Fyfe (poss none if we get Fyfe - where Freo would get 2 top 10 picks for him)

If we are going to be getting in guys like Schache, Sam Reid and Fyfe :) we will lose have to lose some players, and for me, these 6 are the ones that need to go.

We will head to the draft with between 4-6 spots available. and must must draft 1 kpf, 1 kpd and a 188-190cm bull midfielder (unless Jack Graham shows he will take that spot), plus we will need a spot for Patty Naish.

we need another key position defender i feel, and he would take over from Astbury as the big body defender, allowing Rance to play more of the 2nd tall/intercept marker. though i do realise we have garthwaite, who i keep forgetting about.

Astbury is an extremely good defender.. We don't need anyone apart from him and we have Garth.

If Parish improves his kicking over the next few months he would be a real good pick, not sure he will though.

How much junior football do you watch?

Why?

And I have a few mates that are playing for the Jets so I get around to most of there games and I try and watch a few high school games when I can.

Make sure I go to nearly all the championship games.

Because so many talk about the draft age players with such authority without actually watching them. I'm looking for credible posters.

Fair enough, I would think I know more than most about a lot of them.

Admittedly I don't know much about the WA prospects but there isn't many this year anyway.

The guys that I wouldn't want us to take in the draft are probably:

- Hunter Clarke
- Andrew Brayshaw
- Charlie Spargo

And the ones that I would be focusing on are:

- Lochie O'brien
- Lachlan Fogarty ( probably biased cause I know him)
- Noah Balta

If poeple think we dont need to focus on talls or more to the point kpps then they are in ga ga land.weather its f/a Trade or nd in all likelyhood we will need to get em in all three areas.

There are 22 players who are uncontracted and you can bet your bottom dollar this is the group 99% of trades and delistings will come from.Retirement is a possibility with Griffiths and Hampson thru injury.

Kpf
riewoldt
Elton
Griffiths
the last two have shown themselves to be not up to it in effect we have just one at an acceptable standard. In numbers we really need 4 genuine kpfs, in reality we have just one. The lack of numbers and the Griffiths situation means we probably cannot afford to cut a non performer like Elton even if we wanted.

Tall fwd
Moore (r)
even here a lot of people dont have much hope for him.We actually need two on the list.Hes a rookie and in early development the need is for a mature third tall type.

Rucks
Maric
Hampson
Nankervis
Soldo
First two are shot so there is a need for a ready to go ruckman in an ideal world we only need 2 or 3 ruckmen depending on how good our ruck/fwds are and if they can hold down #1 ruck when injury hits.Nankervis is good but soldo is a junior with a lot of developing to do the need is for a ruckman thru the 22 - 26 age bracket.

Ruck/fwd
Chol (R)
Should be two on the list we need a mature one because Chol is no where near it if i listen to the Vfl watchers.

Kpd
Rance
Astbury
just the two kpds we should have 4 you know a junior and another in development/mature in case of injury.

Tall defenders
Grimes
Garthwaite
We have the numbers here we only need two and we could possibly add McIntosh so we have this covered.

Personally i think we need at least 9 talls of various type and size to come into our system given Maric Hampson Griffiths and Elton need to go.
In numbers not talking abilty but in pure numbers it is my opinion we need 16 - 17 talls in our system.
Imo we only need 10 smalls who are usually your pockets and flanker types that would leave a massive 17 spots for mids of which we would have some in the small category anyway ie Miles Prestia Graham.

Anyway back to the 22 uncontracted players.

keepers the ones we hope we can keep imo of course.
Martin
Grigg
Rioli
Miles
McIntosh
Butler

Delist Trade.
B Ellis
Lennon
Batchelor
Maric
Townsend
Lambert
Hunt
Morris
Broad
Drummond
Elton
Ibelieve they have offered Drummond a 1yr contract so he is safe and id say because of the horrid state of our talls Elton will be kept.

It leaves the rookies
Castagna
Stengle
Chol
Moore
Soldo
They will likely keep the last 4 but with Castagna i believe he will either have to be promoted or he can go into the nd.
Think they will keep him so theres a list spot gone.
Also not sure here but we can fill Yarrans spot at the end of the yr is that resolved.I thought that this yr he was on the ltil even though we have paid him out.
We need to go to the nd less than 6 nd picks and i will spew .
Two astute trades and two mature F/a's
Priority has to be talls but a few big mids just for once is also needed.

Ha ha, okay, I think you are correct on those that will get contracts again, IMO Castagna will join the main list unless something goes wrong out of kilter, the other rookies who knows although Chol will probably stick around as a rookie probably as Maric and Hampson probably have their player papers stamped to go along with Elton. Soldo also a rookie spot I suppose and depending on Griffs condition I would assume he would be kept at least as KPP/ruck back up minimum.

B Ellis and Lennon could easily stay depending on how they progress and Lambert might get another short term guernesy. The others I am not sure of particularly the rookies.

What might be more interesting is what happens with Martin end of year and the footy dept including the coach and even the head honchos could be in the gun again!
