Once you have been King, it's very very very hard to go back to being a Prince.

I know a couple of younger coaches who had false starts at a Senior Coach job went back to assistant coaching (Vossy et al), but there is no way that someone who has run his own team for a decade would consider an assistant role.
I understand the overall point you are making.

Nevertheless, Brett Ratten says hi.

I also thought this.

Assistants do an incredible amount of work for not much at all.

Not sure Ken would be keen... or even good at it anymore.

If he is up for it... Sure bring him + Butters in please.

On Gettable it was mentioned that clubs think they can get Butters this year but Cal thinks Port won't let him go. He mentioned that Cats and Dogs are the one's going hard for him.
I think if Butters leaves it would come down to these two clubs. He grew up a doggies supporter and his family were mad WB supporters and would love him to play at the kennel*

Very powerful. Rarely do I see it in a footballer but his hips are super strong. Very exciting if he begins to grasp the basics of the game. Just needs to run with the ball at that same velocity and no one is going to be tackling him to the ground.
Totally. had the binocs on him in some of those contests and what the video doesn't show is that in a couple he was on a really steep angle, but somehow just drove his inside leg into the ground and steadied (reminded me of Chapman, bizarrely enough). Very low centre of gravity but still very quick.

It;s funny, both Butters and Rowell linked to WB, but players have been leaving there or unhappy there for quite a while.

And the Hawks are interested in anyone and everyone, but they have landed some expensive players recently and their young brigade will want to deservedly earn alot more on their next contracts too. So they just might not have to coin for an A grade mid.

I think the Cats definitely have space. Danger will take unders and our younger second tier midfielders are just on average wages while they build up.

I really feel it’ll depend if the Suns can keep this sustained form or if they fall into a heap again

On Hinkley back at Geelong …. I would think he would consider it if he was thinking to refresh and go again …. Perhaps not defined as an assistant though. I doubt that would interest him anyway. Find a role that would interest and refresh him and invent a title that would give him the required status but not deprive anyone else of theirs

From a Herald Sun article yesterday on the Coates Talent League/TAC Cup

Part of the Falcons specific info:

NGA & FATHER-SONS

It isn’t just Rongdit who is tied to the Cats. Hybrid marking forward Jesse Mellor, who was born in Thailand, also trained with Geelong over the summer. He is the son of former Richmond assistant coach Greg Mellor.

Then there is father-sons Jagger Mooney, the son of Geelong goalkicking great Cam, and Boston Riccardi, the son of ex-Geelong star Peter and brother of former Cats listed player Osca.

Noah Caracella returns as an 19-year-old player (son of ex-Essendon, Brisbane and Collingwood star Blake) and is eligible to join Essendon, while Jax Cooney (son of Adam, Western Bulldogs) and Archie Daffy (son of Nick, Richmond) enter the program as bottom-agers.

Not sure when this photo was taken, but Jagger would appear to have his dad's height

I could see him heading west to work with McQualter at the Eagles

It might be a role like what they offered Ross Lyon prior to 2021. And Ken working with James Kelly, Shannon Byrnes and Steven King wouldnt be an issue as he is probably holds an esteemed position in their minds and they have alot of shared history. Ken;s also had experience taking a back seat, with Josh Carr doing a fair bit of work as he transitions to the senior role.

He is of a height and a genetic background that will see him given every chance. If he can show any running attributes then he probably appeals …. but I have no idea on his ability. Lets wait and see if he presses for a spot in Vic C..if he doesnt then it makes his listing more of a long shot than an odds on type deal

Apparently Hawthorn are landing all of Allen, Reid & Butters this coming off season 😂

Im sure some Rich people think its all a Geelong plot. One will have to look at their methodology if they are successful. Hard to know if they would appeal to Reid but after a couple of years at WC , any club that looks a flag chance probably appeals.

Can you remember the role they offered?

I think McQualter would hate that to be honest, particularly when Ken was seen as their ideal choice before him.

The last thing you want as a young coach would be an experienced figure hovering over you, who at this current point in time, holds far more respect amongst his peers, players, and the industry as a whole.

I think with guys like Lyon and Hinkley, if they're ever going to become assistants or directors again, it has to be at a club where they're no threat to become the senior coach.

Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood, and Brisbane would be some options.

If they go to an Yze, McQualter, or even Voss, the optics of it would be that they're actually the real coach, just without the official title.

Or alternatively, they're going to get the job inevitably once the young guy takes the fall.

Depends on the figure, Balme would have been of huge help to Scott when he started

I disagree. I think for some its nice to have the pressure off and take a backseat while getting paid a decent salary. Depends on the ego of the coach also
