Nope he was treated unfairly 3 tests when the entire top order was in poor from he was made a scapegoat you cant convince me otherwise

and sydney along with the rest of the openers in the shield are options to replace ussie come Sri Lanka
We had a failing top 3 so one had to go, they backed the experience of Usman and Marnus and guess what... It was the right choice. The balance of Kontas and those 2 is much better.

Sydney showed no scoring shots in 3 tests.

If Ussie doesn't go to Sri Lanka, I reckon there's a fair chance Head may open, like he did in India last year

Certainly an option, and the options to fill the then absent #5/6 spot look better than to fill an opening role as things stand.

Ball is doing plenty. Shows how piss poor Starc was yesterday with the 2nd new ball.

Fk me. Did we only have one bowler yesterday?

Starc was given the ball for the 95th over and after the 3rd ball was clutching at his back. How many overs did he get with the newish ball again?

Which is why i am not certain Ussie goes yet, if he does going back to the guy who just got dropped for nothing being up to it without going back and playing shield cricket seems stupid.

IF they are certain they need to make the change i would have more confidence in Hunt over Sydney.

As much as he's looked good this year, it's also worth remembering Hunt is off two years where he averaged ~20 odd in the shield.

Seeing where Australia's batting stocks are, I'd be comfortable going back to McSweeney as an opener, providing we're committed to Konstas as his partner (and are willing to give him a long leash). As much as you can say the lack of scoring shots, that's more to do with Australia having little-to-no answers to Bumrah, who in turn is having that kind of series that cements someone's legacy of being a generational bowler.

After all, it's not like Labs, Khawaja or even Smith (until he has been set and with an old ball) have faired any better.

another issue is that the shield go backs on the 8th of feb

the sri lanka series starts late jan
Yeah, the BBL really ****s the calendar. I know it can't be moved because of the finances, but it does regularly mess with having players FC ready when needed.

I totally agree which is why I don’t think Hunt is a great option yet.

Problem with going back to Mcsweeney is dropping him once i think does no damage to his reputation. Dropping him a a second time for failing can.

The thing is every single one of those batsman has gotten set and made some sort of score at least once this series. Sydney hasn't managed that (with one less test admittedly.) Usman can go but someone has to kick him out and i am yet to see anyone do that.

That was then, this is now. Australia should ride Hunt's uptick in form. If it doesn't last, no big deal, McSweeney can take his place.
