Agree, but there is no law against being a dick head. I know lws change but is there any law saying you cannot give the batter a send off anymore?
It's a breach of the ICC code of conduct. It's been all of four days since someone was punished for giving someone a send-off in a test match...

Can't be dropping Boland. Hoping we play four quicks.
Of course you can. He got five wickets for the match, Cummins got seven, Starc eight. Hazelwood is a better international bowler. Boland's great but if you're the fourth of fifth best quick at a period in time, you're a hard luck story.

So if you knock someones middle stump out of the ground you can't run past the batsman and say on your bike champ anymore?

I thought they had said they were going to crack down on it, but can’t find a specific law change. Might be more an interpretation, but I’m guessing.

Piss weak i reckon. as long as they dont cross any racial, sexual etc boundaries why cant they sledge a bit. Adds theatre and passion. Merv used to run past them and give them a spray that would require more beeps than words

Talk about taking the fun out of the sport, so glad I played in the 80's and 90's.

Code of conduct rules from the ICC

2.5 Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.

Note: Article 2.5 includes any language, action or gesture used by a Player and directed towards a batter upon his/her dismissal which has the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction from the dismissed batter, whether or not any reaction results, or which could be considered to disparage or demean the dismissed batter, regardless of whether the batter him/herself feels disparaged or demeaned (in other words, a ‘send-off’). Without limitation, Article 2.5 includes: (a) excessive celebration directed at and in close proximity to the dismissed batter; (b) verbally abusing the dismissed batter; and (c) pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion. Nothing in this Article 2.5 is, however, intended to stop Players celebrating, in an appropriate fashion, the dismissal of the opposing team’s batter.

Safest way would be run up and apolgise to the batsmen and offer a handshake and/or hug and light a candle for the fallen stumps as a gesture of sportsmanship and unity

Looked to hit the ball more, in Perth he was set on leaving and even got out LBW not offering a shot.

He did but his approach was the more or less the same and they just bowled too well to some extent - he tried to make them bowl to him and they just didn’t. In Adelaide he was patient, disciplined, got a few shots away and build some confidence and they bowled more balls he could hit.

It was a good knock

Boland's numbers in Australia are insane and far beyond anyone else.

Absolutely nuts to drop him.

Agree id be dropping Lyon and just going 4 quicks.
You pick your best 3 quicks and a spinner. Bad luck for Boland but that's how it goes. One of the last places you leave a spinner out is in Brisbane.

Not sure if you're having a laugh or not, but the answer is absolutely not. From the ICC Code of Conduct:

Can't recall when this came in, but it's been a while, and I'd hazard a guess that most local comps have a similar rule.

As bad as his first innings in Perth was - and it was - all Marbus was trying to do was similar to what he ended up doing in Adelaide. He took 18 balls to score in Adelaide, clearly a batsman struggling for form trying to see off the toughest time to bat, and hope that eventually runs would come.

50 balls is a long time of course but it’s the same logic.
For sure Phat, and is obviously struggling for fluency in his innings currently. However what he did in Perth was not sustainable. In Adelaide it appears he may have got the Mikey of his back, and hopefully for him that is the case.

I think it’s the more in your face ones they’re concerned about.
Mitch Johnson's spell to the soap dodgers in Adelaide in 2013 i think it was was one of the best things Ive witnessed in cricket. Death stares with his mo after each one. Real theatre. These days he'd be suspended for bullying and improper moustache use

McSweeney and Marnus on the first evening deserve a lot of credit for building the foundation which allowed Head to do what he did.
Thank me for that fellow Bigfooty cricket lovers. I said to my wife that if Marnus makes it through to stumps, I won’t watch the Test series again until Boxing Day.
That’s how confident that I was that he’d survive. 😂

greatwhiteshark Ah never mind, I shoulda read back earlier, can see now you've already posted this.

imo, it's a good rule, I played all through that era, and send-offs were never ok.

It's been decades. Thank God there's only a few left who have archaic views about sportsmanship.

So ridiculous, I'm all for giving the batter a bit of a wind up or wink, however when he has just carted your team around the park for 140 in 140 you should have half a brain to just celebrate high fiving the team and not do anything else.

Looks pretty odd.

Some crossed the line but for the most part they were good banter. Was quite funny how no one seemed overly upset back then??? Handshake and a beer after and problem gone.
I sent many a player off aa a quick bowler and I copped many a sledge when I went out to bat. Loved every minute of it.

I could look it up but what is Marsh averaging since call up?
There isn’t many in the Aussie team with a good average in the past 2 years, not even Head. Having Marsh with the best average tells us everything we need to know about how bad we’ve been.
Surely Head’s average is better than Marsh since the recall now?

On another note surely Hazelwood won’t be right to play yet? No one needs a rest either. Rests are completely overrated. If you need one give them one. Don’t just rest players for the sake of ‘rotation’

Marsh 43 - Head 34. Nothing wrong with your number 6 averaging low to mid 40s. If you're dropping him you might need a whole new top 6.

Others - Green 46, Warner 37, Khawaja 31, Marnus 30, Smith 30, Carey 27
