Bloody Matt Clarke burning a 1st rounder on a HBF. The easiest position in footy to play you can pluck them from rookie, mid season drafts. Might as well play him all year but stick him on the wing instead. Banks was completely ineffective and Broad will be back.

These are the players taken between Tom Brown (pick 17) and Tyler Sonsie (28). Not sure any of them (apart from van Rooyen, I guess, but he feels over hyped and Dimma probably would've played him as a KPD) have shown to be any better than Brown.

There were only 2 KPF that draft: Jye Amiss and JVR. GC did us a favour taking speculative Mac Andrew allowing us to take Gibcus. Reality is the club says they were blindsided losing both Chol and CCJ as they were our long term KPF options. So to replenish our empty KPF stock we took a KPD (fair enough as was touted as top 5) and 4 blokes who aren't KPF and most <6ft tall.

JVR is chugging along nicely averaging 1.5 goals a game. Ben King only averages 1.8 goals a game and is 2 years more advanced and touted to cost $1.5 mil to jag. Jamara ugle Hagan is a year more advanced and averaging a pathetic 1.3 goals a game. Plenty around here think he's worth 3- 1st rounders and $1.2 mil.

Also JVR's magnet is glued to their board. Without all these injuries and at full strength is Brown rated in our top 30 players by Yze???? Like I said won't be 1/2 as bitter a pill to swallow if he can at least become a winger. Any plodder can adequately play HBF.

Like you said, only 2 KPF players in the draft, with 1 taken before any of our picks, and the second after 2 of our picks.

We were never going to swap picks with Fremantle for Amiss considering he's a local kid, while clubs prior had clear targets in mind to draft, so it was very unlikely that we get ahead of Fremantle for Amiss.

Not sure about this. Sure any player can sit behind the ball, get hand ball receives and then hack the ball 50m to a contest. But how many HBF can actually identify targets and hit them with pinpoint accuracy?

Love what Short brings to the team, but he doesn't look to try and find a teammate in F50 the same way Brown did to Baker at the end of the 3rd quarter for Baker's first goal.

There's a reason why clubs like Essendon want to move an AA wingman in Nic Martin to HB and be their main distributor, similar with Amon from the wing to HB for the Hawks.

Whether you draft a player specifically to play as a mid-sized defender or you draft him to play as a midfielder and re-purpose him to fill your need to have a classy mid-sized defender, the effect is the same. In modern footy all teams need classy distributors and line breakers in defence, and several of them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a mid to late first round pick to draft one, especially when you have class defenders Vlastuin, Broad, Grimes closer to the end than the start of their careers.

Beside that, Richmond correctly identified the need to recruit players who were good kicks after the introduction of the stand rule and some attrition had acted to limit the effect of our pressure game. Thus, Brown, Banks, Clarke, Sonsie were recruited when the club may have otherwise focussed on other needs. These guys just need to play games and get accustomed to the level and what is required, if/when some of them make the grade their kicking skills will have a great effect on our ability to transition the ball, and Brown looks like being at the forefront of that. A few other players recruited since the stand rule introduction also look to have the ability to improve our kicking, Bauer, Campbell and McAuliffe at least. I think Coulthard is also a fairly smart user by foot. It is just a matter of getting these guys into the team when they are fit and ready and getting games into them. There will be strong free agents and or trades coming in the next couple of years you would think who can add to our key forward and high end midfield stocks.

Do you know Houli and Astbury were picked up as Forwards? Or are you too lazy to do any research? Just picked a footy team to have something to talk about "around the water cooler" besides MAFS? Our Wings are the laughing stock of the comp. McIntosh and Pickett should be phased out asap.

Oh really? They were? And then they played their best football when put into a position on the ground where they were best able to utilised their strengths. Brown doesn’t, and probably never will have the tank to play on a wing at AFL level, his best position will be in the back half of the ground. Hopefully with more AFL games and confidence he’s able to become a pretty good interceptor as well.

Keep telling yourself whatever you need to mate. I was warning people just like you, R2R and a chunk of others for 3 years the winter is coming and its going to bite hard because the club is making a series of wrong decisions based on a series of reasons that range from arrogance, ego, short-sightedness, a decline in standards caused mostly due to the leaders failing their own sniff test ( Rance, Dimma), drafting too many similar "nothing" sized players, ignoring good "long term" trade options & then finally, throwing years of stability in the fire to trade not 1, but TWO players from the same team, who play the same position, on exactly the same type of deals despite having 2 very different injury histories.

This "now" has been so ****ing obvious to me that i have literally been continuing to push it despite being basically abused, called a "fake supporter", "troll" etc. The time for "spin" is well and truly over - everyone is seeing the fallout of all these things and there is nothing left to hide behind. The flags and all the people who made them, are no longer relevant. We are living with now, 3 years of some of the worst "richmond" shit of the last 50 years. How we totally ****ed up a "unlosable" long term position post the 2019-20 GF is one of the biggest failures of the modern times. We are Hawthorn / Clarkson 2.0 when we should have been the next Geelong.
