Norf/Horf are prime examples as to why you don't gut your list, Both are bottom 2 for a reason & both have been listless all year, Horf only won last week as they played Norf. As for those you mentioned, 1 did gut their list & the other 2 never "bottomed out" & instead traded in some real B/C graders that are only taking games off kids (esp the Aints). look at Essendoom, they have done this for a decade & as it stands they are still a middle table side. In our case we invested in the Draft while at the top (despite what the "experts" want us to believe, funnily enough they are calling for us to go the "full Norf" route, no doubt so they can slam us for it in 3-4 yrs time when it backfires) and those kids are now getting a decent run at it. We need to keep investing in that area & keep building our next crop going fwd, especially this yr & next.
By comparison to those two we have been very competitive, in games for the most part , even with 16 injuries . These two get smashed from the get go . Since beating swans , we lost to injury

Why would he come to Richmond to Ruck behind Nank

Your right.

We should trade Nank

Trade Nank to the saints for their 2nd rounder & any additional later pick upgrades we can swindle. Trade Broad + our 3rd rounder for a mid-teams 2nd rounder.

Then, package Baker, the saints 2nd rounder + the ??? teams 2nd rounder to the Eagles for their 1st rounder if its pick 1-3.

Then, the club could trade Rioli + our 2nd rounder to the Suns for their first rounder + Moyle

Then, we can trade Pick 8 , Short & use the later pick upgrades to fill out a trade for JUH.

Would give us Pick 2,3, JUH + Moyle, with a massive chance of getting another top 3 & very early 2nd the following season. These moves combined with Balta Bolton

Great idea Gun :fire:

Clubs don’t trade out their captains , grow up

Staying fit, still playing footy, flying the flag for a teammate and ultimately falling victim to an overzealous ump who saw a big name and wanted to card him to inflate his own ego?

Seems like the exact type of thing you want from someone guiding others if you ask me
It happens all the time with former AFL players. Umps/players want their 10 seconds of fame. Scott Cummings played a couple of games for my club after he retired. He had a shot at goal from about 60 out and hit the post. He yelled out "f***" and the ump sent him off.

I know that this is a sarcastic post but I am curious why you went Nank to Saints? Out of all the teams they are one with a pretty settled ruckman no?

I think that people keep forgetting and keep overlooking the most recent example of how to actually build a list to be competitive ASAP. GWS is prime example of building a list and having it essentially robbed of a Grand Final spot because "the dogs are a great story". The fact that they can be compared to GC and other teams that have cut deep is great as a comparison.

GWS signed senior leaders and teachers (and one really homophobic jesus pusher) as well as a heap of very talented kids. They kept these senior players around a heap to guide and extract the talent from the kids. Gold Coast on the other hand took good players but not players that were leaders and could create a good culture. Look to the Saints as well, they played the senior leaders too long and didnt bring in enough youth. They also traded out the ones that still had some years left that could of been there as a "slot in" player when the kids needed breaks.

You can cut deep on a list but that needs to be cutting the chaff. The senior players that have currency but are really surplus to needs and have no real leadership capabilities. This is why I think we should be moving heaven and earth to keep Baker around for those standards he can set on the field.

The occasional A grader falls out of the tree(Cameron/Lynch).Prefer too keep all our picks and I wouldn't be against getting someone like Treacy as part of the trade for Baker.
The value of Baker at Freo IMO would be the forward leader to play alongside Treacy and co. It would defeat the purpose of the trade if they traded out Treacy
