The Pittsburgh Steelers chose DL Gabriel Rivera in the 1983 1st Round despite being widely expected to draft hometown hero Dan Marino as Terry Bradshaw’s successor. Rivera was then paralyzed in a drunk driving accident six games into his rookie season.

Rivera was paralyzed in a car wreck. Driving while drunk, he crossed into another lane and collided with another vehicle.

Just a few years after that draft, Len Bias was drafted in the NBA 2nd overall only to die the next day from a coke overdose. The 80s was a crazy time.

What team has the best back to back season record in NFL history?

The 1941/1942 Chicago Bears went 21-1 for a higher win%. If we count the AAFC then the Browns also went 26-1-1 in 1947/48

And if we want to go to truly ancient times then the 1922/1923 Canton Bulldogs went 21-0-2

26 wins to 2 losses

Next best id imagine is 06/07 Patriots who went 28-4

89-90 49ers also went a combined 28-4

Bears 85/86 went 29-3 which is just absurd how good those teams were back then

You'd have to go 16-1 in two consecutive seasons to surpass their .928 record.

Maybe the Patriots could have done it without the Brady ACL in 2008 but as it is they only went .875.

---Best Back to Back Seasons---

I've listed both the regular season record and percentage, but also the overall record and percentage including post-season play....because those are games too. I've sorted it by that best overall percentage.

Notes....

The AAFC is not officially recognized by the NFL because the AAFC refused to give their statistics to the NFL when they were absorbed by them, so the NFL could not incorporate their stats. The AFL complied, which is why AFL stats were incorporated.

Over a three year span (67-69) the Raiders (AFL) went 37-4-1 in the regular season (.893) or 40-7-1 including post-season) (.844)

The 74-75 Raiders went 23-5 in the regular season (.821) or 25-7 including post-season (no titles) (.781)

Over a four year span (74-77) the Raiders went 47-9 in the regular season (.839) or 53-13 including post-season (1-0 Super Bowl) (.803)

The 90-91 Bills went 26-6 in the regular season (.813) or 30-8 including post-season (0-2 in Super Bowls) (.789)

Over a four year span (73-76) the Vikings went 45-10-1 in the regular season (.813) or 51-14-1 including post-season (0-3 in Super Bowls) (.780)

Either your stat is wrong

Or your stat is wrong

Landry and Gibbs in the NFC East from 83-98 plus Gibbs and Parcells 90?

So were there 3 in 1990 or is 1998 meant to be 1988?

Both of those stories are subjects of excellent 30 for 30 episodes.

In their history, the Jacksonville Jaguars have had more head coaches (9) than punters (8).

Bit of a cheat because this isn't counting punters who played 5 games or less, but by this relatively fair metric, i believe this is the only franchise that can claim this weird stat. Texans and Panthers cannot, the other young franchises.

With Tom Brady's retirement, the last player from the 2000 draft class and longest-active player in the league has retired. The new longest-active player is Cardinals Punter Andy Lee, drafted in 2004.

Lee is 40, and contemplated retirement last offseason. If he also calls it quits, the title moves to Aaron Rodgers, drafted in 2005.
