UK Brexit - The UK referendum on leaving the EU - Pt 2: Johnson's Folly

One of the forgotten reasons that the UK has always had high levels of illegal immigration both pre and after Brexit has been the lack of an i.d card which is common throughout Europe. Without one it's virtually impossible to get employment or social security or health care.
Of course every time it's been proposed it's the same tory gammons that whinge about illegal foreigners taking all our jobs that pushed back against it....
Like the liberals here the Tory's age demographic is getting older and less relevant. The conservatives are fading rapidly.

You need a NSN to get employment though. And to get social security.

Health care they give to anyone pretty sure.

True they have clamped down a fair bit over the last few years but NSN numbers can be used by others especially if the original owner has left the country.
Another proposal for an i.d card will probably get raised again soon , every few years it happens just like inland high speed rail in Australia.

You need ID though as well.

When I was over there and on the dole (briefly) before getting a job, I had to present a fair bit of photo ID, a NSN number etc to get either thing.

If you can fake an NSN and a Drivers license, you can fake a 'national ID card' just as easily as well.

The Nazis themselves were a product of (among other things) the great depression and Germans being 'sick of the rest of Europe telling us what to do' re the impositions placed on Germany by the Treaty of Versailles.

Recessions and economic depressions usually lead to people either lending their ears to revolutionary causes (Socialism) or reactionary ones (Fascism).

Once described as the longest ceasefire in history.

It took me over a year to get my NI number when I moved over there because the thought of a couple of hours at the DSS on my day off didn't fill me full of joy. It was only the threat of the sack that inspired me to do it.

Ha ...way back I had a couple of friends who were brothers in the early eighties they managed to have a flat in Altrincham and another flat in Hulme that they could crash in after going out in Manchester (all paid for by the taxpayer) Both were unemployed and in theory their parents had the income to support them so they shouldn't have been on the dole anyway. They kept it up for about three years until one of the brothers emigrated and the other decided he was bored and got a job. Think a few weed dealers lost two of their best customers.
Tbf it was the early eighties and there was about 3 million unemployed ...there wasn't that much work around especially if you were out of school with no experience.
Signing on at the job centre was soul destroying ...

Furious spin there.

The Central and Eastern Europeans he wants back doing manual jobs British people do not want, is who the xenophobic Brexit campaign was based on.

Vote for Brexit and kick all the Romanians, and Bulgarians etc out.

Now its, no, thats not what Brexit was about at all.
It's kind of funny isn't it.

Before Brexit the pro-Brexit crowd were like "they're taking our jobs. They're taking our jobs".

Now there is an abundance of opportunities for fruit pickers and hospitality low paid jobs which the migrants tend to fill it's "oh, I don't want to do those jobs".

same s**t happens everywhere, it's funny that it's all so circular and insular

As everyday passes its become clearer that the UK voting to leave the EU was a terrible mistake

Even with my thirty year old high school economics, I understood that leaving a huge trading bloc on your own doorstep and swapping it for a series of small ones scattered across the globe because something, something the French was the economic equivalent of Operation Barbarossa.

It was obvious to literally the rest of the Western World before, during and after

As I've said before, the only people happy with Brexit are the racists

I think everyone here pre vote with one singular exception who no longer posts here was highlighting how it was a s**t show and the many ways.

There are plenty of Trumpy wumpy fans still around who will happily tell you the benefits will come because they can control their borders .

Usually fans of Orban for the same reason.

Ha ha ha.

Another culture war? The right who say those who died in the war shouldn’t have died in vain against the left who say they shouldn’t have died at all

Fact it this seems more newsworthy in the old dart than the comm games eviction

Think the UK will be back in full EU alignment by the end of the 2030s. Probably not membership itself. That's in the too hard basket until a few million present day Conservative voters die off. You can't fight geography.
I remain stunned that as much as 26% of the population would vote Tory, based on polls. Surely their flaming idiocy, and their Brexit chaos, would convince people to ditch them? It's scary how many blinkered Tory voters there are.

Many previously labour Scottish seats are now rusted SNP. It’s a tough thing to get over but a lefty j Corbin inflicted a minority govt. could be the best they could hope for.
Ironically needed ulster unionists to rule. Then ulster shafted over Brexit

Think 26 per cent would be about right although it is a surprise that it's that high. The vast majority of the print media in the UK is still very pro conservative / right wing. There are rusted on areas where there is no chance of anything but a conservative winning the seat. As stated above the SNP have such a dominance in Scotland and most of their seats were previously Labour. It might change dependent on the investigations into the SNP and their alleged corruption. The resignation of Sturgeon won't help as she has been the face of the independence movement.
The Liberal Democrats could be with the SNP deal breakers whether the Lib Dems would form government with Labour after getting burned last time is a moot point.
Any sensible government would have to go back to the EU eat some humble pie and pretty much try to reintegrate into the EU as much as possible. At least one of issues of the referendum of 'too many immigrants in our country' has been shown as a load of crap as legal immigration has not dropped and asylum seekers have increased significantly.
Hopefully the 26 per cent who would vote conservative will be too apathetic to turn up to vote or finally come to their senses.
The conservatives should get hammered and put in the wilderness for at least a couple of terms. As with the Republicans in the states as the crazy types take over it will be harder to attract more middle of the road or traditional conservatives and in particular younger supporters.
The idea of a minority government does sound good though , unfortunately the UK has rejected proportional representation before which for me would reflect the true political scene in the UK although it would let some of the fringe parties get seats.
