Pritchard is the one now.
Grant will stay, no doubt about that, but we need to sign Pritchard.
The dominoes seem to be falling the right way: Blackburn, Edmond, Wilcox.

I'd be hopeful that with those locked away and a new coach we are now shoring up confidence in the future of our AFLW squad, so that others such as Pritchard will be encouraged to sign up too.

Ellie Blackburn is one of eight inclusions to the Western Bulldogs VFLW line-up this weekend.

Blackburn will join fellow AFLW-listed Bulldogs Sarah Hartwig, Jorja Borg and Maggie Gorham in the team that faces Carlton on Sunday morning.

Caitlin Pickett, Millie Klingbeil, Mali McLeod and Mia-Rae Clifford have also been named to play.
Imogen Milford, Tallia Pulcino and Cassidy Mailer will miss through injury, while Isadora McLeay misses through illness.

Jaimi Tabb is set to play in the ADF match, while Chloe Leonard, Tannah Hurst and Mia Cowan have been omitted.

The first bounce will be at 11am on Sunday 28 April at Mission Whitten Oval.

The match will be live-streamed via afl.com.au/vflw for those who can’t make it, with game-day updates also available via @BulldogsW on X (Twitter).

THE WESTERN Bulldogs have parted ways with their AFLW list and recruiting manager Mick Sandry in the wake of yet more sweeping changes to their women's football program.

Sandry had been at the Dogs in a part-time recruiting role for over seven years and had spent the duration of his stint at the Whitten Oval in charge of the club's AFLW list management team.

Last December he took control of a draft where the Bulldogs had the bulk of the early selections, taking four of the first 11 picks and landing Western Jets forward Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner with the prized No.1 choice.
Sandry was also heavily involved in the bombshell 11-club mega deal that occurred on a dramatic final day of the AFLW Trade Period, with the Dogs exchanging six players and six picks as part of the remarkable agreement.

It saw the Bulldogs move Kirsty Lamb, Gabby Newton, Katie Lynch and picks No.22 and 61 to rival clubs, securing Lauren Ahrens, Jasmyn Smith, Analea McKee and picks No.4, 6, 11 and 51 in return. The club had previously agreed deals for Zimmorlei Farquharson, Ellie Gavalas and Mua Laloifi throughout the same Trade Period, while losing Celine Moody to Carlton.
The Dogs have gone through a significant off-season overhaul within their AFLW football department, hiring former Melbourne assistant Tamara Hyett to replace the sacked Nathan Burke as senior coach in February.

Former cricketer and the highly credentialed Patrice Berthold was also hired as the club's new head of women's football in March, following a complete review into both the men's and women's programs over the summer.

The Bulldogs, AFLW premiers in 2018, have struggled across recent years and have qualified for the finals only once in the six seasons since. It culminated in last year's last-placed finish and their disappointing 1-9 record.

Very happy with this, nothing against Mick personally, but it’s clear this was a department that needed permanent change.

Coming up to six months now since we sacked Burke and I have to see I’ve been impressed with all the changes. Most importantly we didn’t panic and have slowly and methodically reviewed each department.

We’ve definitely upped the off-season involvement as well, which can only be a good thing and that has seemingly come from Hyett.

That's the first mention i've seen of Patrice Berthold. Was there even an official announcement?

Yes a few weeks ago

The Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Patrice Berthold as our new General Manager Women’s Football.

A former cricketer in her home state of WA, Berthold brings a wealth of high-performance experience in elite sporting programs as well as executive acumen delivering major events.

While at Cricket Australia she headed up Team Operations, travelling with the women’s and men’s national teams, forging strong relationships with international associations and wrangling exceptionally complex logistics during Covid-affected times.

She then took up the role of GM Operations at the T20 World Cup, overseeing the tournament’s successful delivery in seven host cities across Australia. Most recently she held the position of Executive Director, Service Delivery for the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games.

“I’m thrilled that Patrice will be bringing her proven leadership in elite sporting environments, strategic nous and operational excellence to this crucial role,” said Chris Grant, Executive Director of Football.

“Her appointment is testament to the investment our Club is making in women’s football, and I look forward to working with her to shape and implement a vision for sustained success.

“Given the recent appointment of Tamara Hyett as our new Senior Coach, it’s a really exciting time for our W program.”

Berthold said she looked forward to the opportunity.

“I’m super excited to join the Western Bulldogs in what is an amazing time for the club, women’s football and women’s sport as a collective,” she said.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to come into the AFLW program at a time of reset and rebuild, and I am extremely confident with the group of players and staff we have.

“With support and backing from the top too, we can establish some really strong foundations in 2024 to set us up for long-term success both on and off the field.”

The VFLW Bulldogs will continue getting game-time into some of their AFLW players, with Jess Fitzgerald one of six changes to this weekend’s team.

Fitzgerald is one of four senior-listed players to feature, with recruits Jasmyn Smith and Analea McKee to make their VFLW red, white and blue debuts.

Mua Laloifi will return to the line-up for the first time since her AFLW career with Carlton.
Jaimi Tabb and Isadora McLeay have also been added back to the line-up.

Maggie Gorham and Sarah Hartwig come out through injury, Courtney Ugle and Jaime Henry have been managed, and Mali McLeod and Emmalyn Nekrep have been omitted.

The Bulldogs will look to make it consecutive wins when they host the Hawks from 2.30pm on Sunday 5 May at Mission Whitten Oval.

The match will be live-streamed via afl.com.au/vflw for those who can’t make it, with game-day updates also available via @BulldogsW on X (Twitter).
