I would make a play for Membrey as a genuine foil for larkey, free agent so wouldn't cost any draft capital and its hardly like we will struggle to fit him in the TPP.

Yep i get that, it would take a substantial offer to have Darcy ask and of course there the 3 year contract rule in place now too. Just that if he asked and to keep him it meant they had a 3rd tall forward demanding 1m per year then theres a chance. We'd have to be ballsy for sure.
Perhaps JUH instead, but i think id prefer Darcy for the second ruck options.
If not nothing lost we have picks 1 and 2 still.

We are not throwing big bag of cash randomly at one player, those days are over, NO.

We go to the draft, build the core, trade in the midtiers, some free agents to plug the holes and some luck.

If going old, about to retire looking to become coach. Boak or Pendles. Someone who has been a leader/captain. If throwing the checkbook at a younger player.....well, I don't think anyone will come no matter the money.

This is the art of recuiting. Finding a 22-23 year old, outside the system, or outside an oppo teams best 22 that in capable and hungry to make a difference. At the moment we have failed miserably at this.

Yes who are the modern day equivalents? Pendles? Fyfe? Viney?

It’s going to be difficult to attract players who are still getting regular games in teams that are contending.
