Is there a list update for all the outs for each club? So far, I am believing I Simmons, Humphries and Sedunary have all retired as has Schmidt but Aimee has nominated for the WA draft which threw me.

Has there been a change to list sizes?

Do we have the same rules for LTI players as the men's competition? That would mean with Rowley that we have anther spot to fill.

As it stands, I have only logged 4 retirements, the trade of McCarthy for Roux and the rookie listing of Simmons.

We had 31 on the list this season including Webb as an injury replacement for Petrevski

I have been going over our trade with the purples again, to clarify my thoughts on it.

The issue is, McCarthy has been both a more productive player, and a more consistent player, than Roux. So the Purples can be pretty confidant with what they are going to get. If she does nothing more than what she did with us, she will be productive for them.

Roux on the other hand, has been both inconsistent and unproductive, and if all we get from her is what the purples got, then imop, even with the extra pick thrown in, we lost the deal. Its why the extra pick was thrown in.

For this deal to work, we need to get more from Roux than the purples did, but thats the exact same situation we had with franklin, her production at Freo, translated to us, was never going to be enough, we needed more than they got.

Franklin is younger, so maybe we can wait a couple of years to see if she gains confidence and figures it out.

Roux isnt as young, but she is still young, so getting more from her than the purples did is possible, and in the next couple of years, I think Roux has more upside than Franklin.

Roux is really athletic, so the appeal is, maybe she takes marks, and wins contests that an alternative player doesn't, thats where her upside is. If she can get to 10 possessions and a couple of contested marks a game, then I think that puts us ahead in the deal, especially if pick 27 becomes someone useful.

And this is possible, it certainly isnt certain, and frankly, the Eagles track record of getting in recycled players and then getting more out of them isnt good.

But there is hope.

Maybe we need to turn Franklin into a KPD.

She really looked like a fish out of water in the forward line this season.

Roux can at least take an overhead mark and straighten the forward line up.
My issue with this is, although Franklin has decent speed, she isnt very agile. A forward getting to the ball ahead of her will turn her fairly easy I think. So, while she may be ok with players on the lead, or contested mark spoiling, I think she becomes a defensive liability once the ball hits the deck. This has also been an issue up forward where, if she is on the lead, and the ball hits the deck, she tends to be out of the contest. This is where Roberts is so good, she is very agile, and is just as dangerous if the ball hits the desk as she is at marking.

Franklin actually has a really good lead, and this is where I think the opportunity for her is. However, she lacks confidence, so doesn't lead with conviction as much as she should, and I dont think she reads the play all that well. So at half forward, she seems to get caught between play a lot, and doesn't command the ball.

I would have her as deep forward as possible, and tell her to just lead hard. Make sure to get other players to try to get to her feet for the spills.

Who, though?

We have zero capable small forwards on the list. It's a massive hole.

I’d put Franklin in the ruck with stints up forward. Our current ruck is too short, so our mids are having to try to shark the ball off the oppo ruck, which often means we end up on half back by the time we win the footy.
Our forward line would be a lot more efficient if we get first hands on the ball in the middle.
It might also give Franklin some confidence to get her hands on the footy in the guts before going up forward for a spell.

Kate Bartlett, surrounded by a capable forward line will absolutely shine.
She's more an undersized tall for me though, a medium at best.

We have zero crumbers that are up to standard.

Yeah, if it came down to having to play a forward getting 5 possessions a game, I would play Bartlett over Franklin or Roux, I wouldn't play her with Franklin expecting her to crumb, it isn't her game. Bartlett created a couple of goals with just touches that wouldn't have even got a stat.

She is almost the anti Roux. Not very athletic, but very smart, she isn't going to take any big marks, but she can create a half chance for someone with just a smart bit of play.

Huge. Recruitment should get a lot easier. And of course, we'll have to wait and see if she's actually any good, but she always seemed very clued up to me, and lots of others think so too.

It's the first time I can think of there being any buzz about this women's team. They've always been an afterthought. No longer.

Absolutely stoked with this appointment.

Club is getting its mojo back.

CEO - Don Pyke
# 1 - Harley Reid
AFLW - Daisy Pearce

Some good pick ups and signings there.

This will make a huge difference to who we will be able to attract to the Woman’s program going forward.

We heard the club were in the running to get her, but to actually achieve the goal, wow! This is a huge WOW moment
for our women's team and for the club. Well done! As others have said, the mojo is back.
