yeh when that happened i turned to my dad and asked why our other mids struggle to make those kind of decisions. the kick itself isnt that hard.
It's composure. He has the ability to make quick decisions, then take pace off the actual kick and allow it to drop into space where a teammate can hit it at speed and mark it easily.

That's purely between the ears. Not a rush of blood to the head, adrenaline pumping in front of 60k people, and trying to kick the cover off the ball, or attempting to flush a bullet pass off one step (a skill execution with a very large margin for error).

It's counter-intuitive to most players to see the play, make a very quick decision, then actually take pace off the ball, and even pop it up slightly to advantage as one kicks it.

Not to him.

I think we often over-value the physical stuff vs the mental part of the game. I'd argue the mental stuff has a much greater in game impact, especially in a sport which has 36 players on the field at once.

He did so many clever taps to people. Him and Dudley work very well together.

One was a reid handball that put Dudley into 10m's of space and let him run forward. The other time, he just tapped the ball into Dudley's path.

We need a Murphy Reid compilation come season's end, it will be staggering how it's filled with amazing little dinky moves; taps and whatnots.

Also, I know nothing really about football professionally, just a casual watcher/fan yadadada....but! It feels like when you have natural footballers who are more creative/gifted and can execute in the fluidity of the moments....it goes a long way to troubling your opposition. Things like 'effort': tackling, man-marking and structurally positioning can be taught, etc....but that natural flair creates waves of buzz that puts bums in seats. In the thrill of the moment: things happen. And as Enzo Amore says "you can't teach that!!".

Just hope they're not sawft!!! ;) Wonderful stuff

I have a theory of it you have a critical mass of one touch players with good skills like Reid, Sicily, Dudley, Daicos, Pendlebury etc then everyone arounds them looks a lot better. The issue has been we have been 2 or 3 players short of that critical mass. When get Young back, and then add one more from somewhere we will be very close I think.

They take the half chances, and instead of a ball up you get the ball to the outside and allow you to move the ball quickly.

I really want to call our how clean Serong and Brayshaw were on the weekend. Serong especially did not fumble, and did one especially good one hit take from a quick handball.

The forwards must love Reid already. Dudley is a very good kick to them as well.

Harvey Langford. That little dweeb who looks like Peter Bell on First Crack was basically saying it should be a lock. Montagna later went into bat for Reid while discussing our game.
Yep,
All you need to do is check the draft picks they were taken at so 6 is higher than 16 so bad luck Murphy Reid.

Even though Melbourne got pumped and that was the main reason given on big footy as to why Bruce missed out round 1.

Did he… use a foot to tap it to himself and then a hand to tap it back to Dudley?!? That is OUTRAGEOUS! 😍

Also what I look for in a woman.
lol!!!

"Really strong trunk, big ass and thighs and is great at holding his feet...'

Just a heads up, if your woman has a big ass and thighs and is good at holding his feet, you might wanna check what kinda trunk they're packing. Just sayin':laughv1:

Murphy Reid looks very very good but I still maintain let's not laugh at West Coast or Port Adelaide too much. I still maintain that Joe Berry and Bo Allan will also be very good footballers.

Allan was going to play in Round One. Seems almost Longmuir-like conservatism that West Coast haven't brought him in yet. Reckon he'd be in their top five young players by mid-season. He's a gun and I stand by that.

It is easy to admire his smart little skilful plays, but what I appreciate most is his ability to lower the eyes and hit targets inside 50. Freo have been screaming for this, and this lad has the ability to make out of form forwards look good.
Nice to have the best Reid in town.
Best Reid by a long way.
So he's now the total package. I thought leg speed was his main weakness even though I never thought he was slow. He needs to work on maintaining his speed but that is what preseasons are for.

Allan has been very sick and lost a fair amount of weight.

Couldn’t agree more. How much has Pendlebury & Sidebottom contributed to Collingwoods success?

A counter example came from Erasmus in the game, running towards goal he has a Quick Look sideways and sees Bolton clear to his left. Instead of just a quick give he turns forward, runs into trouble and as he’s being tackled tries to give it but it’s already too late & it’s turned over.

I’ll take a team of slow, average height players with elite football IQ every day over a team of dumb athletes.

Going to get real interesting when players start becoming available from injury. Other than Darcy & Young I’m keeping him in at the expense of anyone on the sidelines so it eventually gets to choosing him over the likes of Johnson, O’Meara, Freddy. If we ever have a full list that is.

After watching some highlights I reckon he kinda plays more like Bartel did.

Really looking forward to watching his development.
Certainly got the smarts and naturally will need to get stronger. Bartel's standout though was his overhead marking (for his height).

He has the same reaction speed to Bartel. That amazing shot on goal he only needed .1 of a second and almost scored.
