I use the actual bigfooty app sometimes. It’s easier to see all the threads I’m following across different boards but it’s been dishing up all sorts of emoji garbage lately.
Will go back to browser if it continues.
I had to go full Web browser in the end. The app is okay but it does that weird player card thing and I couldn't fix it.

Let it be known that as Matthew Johnson was considered a top ten pick that slipped, so will Murphy Reid be.

So say we all.
Lachie Neale getting drafted at pick 58 the biggest steal of the century really.

We missed out on all his individual honours but gee imagine picking up someone at 58 who would win 2 x Brownlow medals

Yep, way to go Lyon. Way to go Freo.

Would still have him back in a heartbeat.

Regarding the slide of Murphy to teens compared to the slides of highly rated players in previous drafts and they not becoming good afl players - Just thinking
In previous years most of the time the sliding of such players already start to happen in Twomey's November ranking at least (Last ranking before the Mock one). But this year Murphy still kept 6th position until his last ranking. Smille, Draper, Allan ranked lower than him by Twomey but have size which could have gone against Murphy for many clubs. Then in Top 10, 2 clubs had mutiple picks and some very good Non Mid talent like Tauru, Travaglia which those clubs might have thought they wont get those kind of players that often and it is golden opportunity to use those extra pick. Then come Richmond with Pick 10 and 11 (12 and 13) who had 8 first rounders obviously going for an ex factor risk player and going for a need( they already taken 2 mids in top 10) Then WCE going for big body Allan and After Richmond pick, out of the next 10 picks mostly were interstate clubs who tend to avoid Vic Metro if equally or slightly less talent availble.Thats why Twomey said he could slide upto Dog's 20. Then Port who already have similar sized players in their stacked midfield and Berry is a good talent and a need for them as well. And for Freo if we miss Murphy we are getting into next Tier which is not ideal and club might have thought that he is a type of player we missed not just in midfield but across 3 parts of the ground.
Which is not basically a slide due to lack of talent but due to multiple factors of circumstances of different clubs between pick 6 and 17.

Any thought guys?

We've become a pretty regular 'slider' club.
  • agree about Reid, the others probably around value.
  • Ollie Murphy
  • Simpson
  • Johnson
  • Young
  • Chapman

Was Chappy a slider? If memory serves, he was seen as someone that would be taken in the teens or early 20s.

I don't feel as though Chapman was a slider; was taken exactly where he was expected give or take a couple of picks.

I will give Murphy, Simpson, Young and now Reid though as sliders (Johnson went where roughly where I expected him to go but acknowledged that he went later than a lot of media outlets and bigfooty drafts had him.).

Not bad when you are snapping up early first rounders as sliders.

Pretty sure Brennan Cox and Luke Ryan were both sliders if you go back a bit. Tbh I don’t think it means anything.

I think it highlights a lack of consistent emphasis on positional list needs with high and medium end draft picks compared to other teams. Our "strength" is also our "weakness"; I know there are many on this board who always say we should pick for a list need all the time. Personally though, I think it works well when you either have a club who has multiple picks who is going to tend to quickly devolve into picking needs (ala Richmond this year) and/or clubs that tend more to prioritise list needs at early picks (eg. clubs like North Melbourne, Carlton, West Coast) before you in your picks.

I think it reflects something about our list management. We tend to do well with later picks revealing an eye for talent and value. eg Cox, Darcy, Treacy, Ryan all giving value way beyond their pick status.

With live trading club options have increased significantly. We traded up for O'Driscoll and Valente, and I think those moves were a balance of needs and best available.
