he's been there longer than anyone and we're still here and he hasn't fixed it or improved it
Both Lloyd and Austinare from Liddle era.

Multiple reviews under Sayers and Cook, absolved them.

Cook was the last messiah who would fix it all. I have little confidence the new messiah is any different...

Until we see demonstrable meaningful action, I am not convinced.

Remember Wright is also a training wheels CEO!

Massive job for Wright. We are still living off the past

Our last 30 years has been a disaster and as bad as anyone. We are no better than an Essendon or a St Kilda

Off field things are good financially now but on field (our core business) we are a club devoid of real standards and a clear direction in our football department. This isn’t one issue.

My fear is this runs much much deeper.

From an afar, things haven’t looked rosier at the club.
We haven’t lost any wanted players (yet - and you believe TDK is as good as done).
Contracts are being re-signed
Players seem to enjoy being at Carlton and have a bond together.
Families are welcome with all the kids now / crèche
Players want to come to Carlton
The past is reunited with the club
Stability off-field until the Sayers leak (which shouldn’t really affect the team other than some personal connections that Luke would have forged).

Maybe everyone is too comfortable and they need to realise that the core function is to win football games. Players need some mongrel installed vs too much pampering.

Wright has plenty of work to do, these are my thoughts, some emulating from discussions with people on the inside, some from what I see

  • Voss, adequate setting up for a game, but lacks tactical nous in-game. You don't need the best gameplan, but you do need total buy in to achieve consistent strong output. He and the leaders need to bridge that connection with the rest of the playing group
  • Austin, in general, way too conservative with addressing our needs. After 5 years, we still have a one paced midfield and forwards. Too many players that won't push back against opposition aggression. Still no consistent, ready to go KPD to partner Weitering
  • HP, too early to assess, but disappointing that we have started the season with more injuries compared to the same time last year, even with moving on 4 injury prone players
  • Players, far too often putting up conditional performances, the lack of intent as a collective is glaring, so too the selfishness of looking for glory moments rather than using a better option. Some also stating that " this group is soft"
Many of these can be turned around quickly, others will take a little more time

He's going to have to fix recruiting and coaching.

Both areas are weak.

Recruiting showing they have NFI how to identify forward talent.

I'm sick of going on and on about the coach but his team selection and tactical nouse have been ratshit from day dot.

We are in a rock and a hard place. No one would want to work here that can get a job at better clubs because of our reputation. Our reputation is that we sack a lot of people and offer no job security. We make have to move a lot of people on. Stuck in a bad cycle.

We played in a preliminary 2 seasons ago, he must have some idea about tactics and team selection. Perhaps the issue is that may have been as good as it gets for this group (largely assembled by Austin).

I have trouble assessing recruiting. It’s a tough gig dependent on so many things especially development and coaching

How many players have left clubs and got better?

I can’t believe our list is that bad and it’s certainly not as bad as the performances we are producing. This was the same list (and maybe better) that got us to preliminary final less than 2 seasons ago

How many have got better, or even got back on another list after being delisted?
